I am trying to figure out steps for deploying on IIS using ARR (Application Request Routing).
We have 2 production servers WEB1 and WEB2.
What I understood from research is, follow the below blue-green deployment process:
1) Turn all traffic on WEB2
2) Deploy on WEB1
3) Test WEB1
4) Turn all traffic on WEB1
5) Deploy on WEB2
6) Test WEB2
7) Turn traffic on both servers (WEB1, WEB2)
My question is,
How can I do this with ARR ?
Right now I have web1/testing.html as URL to do the HealthTest.
I can manually return false when I am trying to publish on WEB1
Question : is there any other settings Do I need to do in load-balancer ? or once server is marked
unhealthy, all requests will be redirected to another server - WEB2 or do I need to explicitly set a
rule to route all traffic to WEB2 ?
Now suppose you need to deploy the new version of the application to web1 and web2, and these two servers serve as the back-end servers for running the application to process requests, and the forwarding request is another server where ARR is deployed.
When deployed to web1, you can take web1 offline in ARR.
Once web1 goes offline, all requests will be automatically forwarded
by ARR to web2. In monitoring and managment, there is only web2.
After web1 is deployed, you can directly access web1 to test whether the deployment is successful, and bring web1 online in ARR after success.
The same is true for deploying web2. When web2 is offline, all requests will automatically go to web1. You do not need to do in load-balance.

I want to know how this is possible since I don't config the certificate on my container, I suppose the Kudu service (the reverse proxy) rebind the 443 port to the 80 of the container. Is this true ? The plain http traffic between Kudu and the container on port 80 can cause a possible security hole ?
If I deploy a container with NGINX as a reverse-proxy for ASP.NET Core I must configure the TSL/SSL into NGINX ? On ASP.NET Core ? None at all ?

With a Reverse Proxy the client never connects to the HTTP server in your application, in your case Kestrel. The connections you get are requests coming from the Reverse Proxy, and you send your responses back to the Reverse Proxy. Most HTTP stuff is copied from the incoming client request and passed along to your application, but the Reverse Proxy can terminate the SSL tunnel, offload the Authentation, and perform other request transformations.
I need path based routing in iis arr where i can create target group to assign different iis servers for web farm architecture. Which is provided by AWS Application Load Balancer.

As far as I know, if you want your ARR to achieve redirecting the request to the web farm according to special rule condition like http_cookie, http_host.

With lots of R&D, I found the answer that while crating multiple farms we can archive this
in my scenario I want to redirect my call to a specific IP but when I am using IP address the issue is due to IP so I create Farm for each IP and redirect my call to those farm due to that my issue of IP get solved so now I don't need to configure IP address to my web config file in my project.
We have 2 Azure VMs running IIS and hosting 50+ .Net web applications (Webforms, MVC, WCF & ASMX). Both of the 2 VMs are identical and all sites are configured using a hostname ([subdomain].domain.com) on port 443 and requiring SSL.
11 of these sites are legacy and require afinity because of session state, all other sites don't and can be randomly loadbalanced.
All of the sites run perfectly on each of the 2 servers.
Now we would like to put an Application Gateway in front of the 2 VMs to provide loadbalancing, https redirect, WAF, ...
Can we configure 1 Application Gateway to do all this and make sure the affinity is only valid for those 11 sites and not for all of them and also do the https redirect?
Or do we need to configure 2 Application Gateways, 1 for the 11 affinity-dependent sites and 1 for the remaining and then have dns point to 1 of the Gateways?
In Application gateway you can create 100 Listeners (For WAF enabled
SKUs). So you should be able to accommodate your setup with one
Application gateway.
When you are creating HTTP settings, you can choose whether to
enable Cookie based affinity or not.
Application gateway has all the feature you requested, like HTTP to
HTTPS redirection, WAF protection.
So you should be able to deploy an Application Gateway and configure to make your setup work.
I have developed 2 applications in spring boot with embedded tomcat. I have one cloud server (Azure) and i have run both the applications in that server. First app running in port 80 and other one in 81. I have domain name registration in GoDaddy For example First app is www.abc.com and the second one is www.xyz.com. How do i configure in azure console that when request comes from www.abc.com then port 80 should serve the request else request would be served by 81. Please help me out configuring deployment.

Is it possible to setup Azure Application Gateway to use one server as fallback if the first server is unhealthy?
We currently have this setup in our path-based rules:
/images/* -> server 1 (only server in pool 1)
/* -> server 2 (only server in pool 2)
If we take down server 1, images will return 502 gateway error even if server 2 should be able to handle it. I expected unhealthy servers to be temporarily removed from the path-based rules until they are healthy.
Yes, It's possible to use Application Gateway to achieve that.But you need to add the two VMs in one backend pool.
Just go to one backend pool and then add the second VM into the pool. Then click save.
Also,it's necessary to configure VNet and probe, etc.
