In an install4j generated installer, I want to check if the browser is open before proceeding with the further steps of installation. How can I get it done? Checked with all the available actions of install4j and didn't find anything. I am using install4j version 4.2, hence will not be able to check with the active processes running on the system.
install4j 4.2 does not have the required functionality. You need install4j 6 where you can use the com.install4j.api.windows.WinProcesses API to find out if a particular application is running.

I have 2 computers running Domino Designer, On my new one I get java errors in a server based application and not on the old one.
I have installed the required package on both machines and I have the same compiler set in prefs.
The computer with errors is a new one running windows 10 and DDE 11.0.1 FP1 and the old one is running Windows 7 and DDE 11.0.1
there is probably some paths or something that I have forgotten to set but can't find it.
what can be the cause of these errors on my new machine?

I know this isnt a dev question per se, but is there a timeline on a 5.2 build that can be installed on Win 10?
I think the issue i am seeing is just with the installer so an in place upgrade to Win 10 might work fine, but a clean install fails as it doesnt acknowledge IIS 10 or whatever version comes with Win 10.

Official answer - Windows 10 is not yet supported by the currently available Acumatica ERP installers, however the issue has already been fixed internally (AC-56069 - fixed in 4.20.2262, 5.10.0785, 5.20.1012 and newer). Following workaround can be used in the meantime:
Download the Orca tool to edit the MSI file: http://adriank.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Orca.zip
Open the
MSI file using this tool (might be able to right click on MSI and
open with Orca)
Go to the LaunchCondition table
Drop/delete the IIS version condition (inside MSI, the LaunchCondition entry is IISVERSION >="#7"; system does a string comparison and "10" is
smaller than "7")
Save and close Orca
Run the setup
I can't give you an "official" answer but I can give you a work around.
If you download a utility called LessMSI you can extract the installation files. They will come out in a folder called "SourceDir". Simply take these and replace the files in your default installation folder or run them from another location.
Then you can proceed as normal.
The installer only checks if pre-reqs are installed and then copy's the files to the output location. If you have IIS already setup with dotnet support then the rest will be fine.
I do this frequently if I have to install a site with a specific version in order to upgrade or test a client's snapshot.

There is a main shell script prepared (runtests.sh)
if I configure everything and I execute selenium RC and runtests.sh, firefox browser opens... (but stands on empty page).
Furthermore: there are several inconsistences on the Installation Guide, that's why I suspect that Linux restrictions perhaps are deprecated. For example: on page 2 says...
At the base level, Magento Test Automation Framework will require the

... but on page 4...
Download and install Selenium RC 1.0.3 (...).The latest available
version is 2.x, Download Selenium RC (Now available NEW 2.0b), but

Yes, it is possible.
I had the same problem using Selenium Grid in version 1.x.
Download Selenium Driver (Selenium 2). I got the tests running in Debian without modifying runtests.sh.
If you plan to test with several OS / browsers you can find a quick start tutorial for Selenium Grid 2. This may be helpful if you host your Magento code on a linux webserver. It's much easier now to set up the grid than it was with Selenium 1, fortunately.
Launch the server with
java -jar selenium-server-standalone-2.15.0.jar -role hub
By default, the server will run on port 4444. You can start the server on a Linux box without a desktop environment (e.g. a development web server).
Then you set up boxes with desktop environment (e.g. a Windows machine and a Linux machine). Now you download the server standalone library for every machine and start the client:
java -jar selenium-server-standalone-2.15.0.jar -role node -hub http://192.168.1.2:4444/grid/register
You have to change the IP to the IP of your Selenium server (and change the port if you did so in the first command). By default, the client will run on port 5555. If you want to use another port for the client or if you wish to start several client instances, you can define custom ports using the -port switch.
Note: don't care too much about the software versions mentioned in the document at all. It seems to be a bit outdated.
The latest public release works fine on Ubuntu/Debian pretty much out of the box, but the documentation is Windows-orientated.
We got the tests running on a headless Selenium installation using Google Chrome on Ubuntu server 11.04 64bit. Screen-shots are only possible when using Firefox, but Selenium requires version 3.6 of Firefox, so we'll need to downgrade the Mozilla browser to enable that.
[Update: March 27th 2012] We tried again with Firefox 10 after upgrading our packages and to our biggest surprise, it worked! We've now got screen-shots!

I made a init script selenium-headless that simplifies running the TAF on a server.
The TAF project is under development, this is just a preview was published. The team wanted to share ideas and give valuable benefits (automatic tests) for everyone, who is developing for Magento. TAF will have changes, it will be restructured and polished before the official release.
The docs are outdated a little, they give general overview of the tests usage. Currently TAF can be run on both Windows and Linux, and both Selenium 1 and 2 can be used to run them.

Do not mind documentation inconsistences
If tests do not run - re-check your configuration and Selenium installation.

I am replacing a backlight driver for a device running Windows Embedded Compact 7. I'm hoping I can find the source for the application and modify it to call my driver instead of the old one.
Is there a way to tie my driver's functionality into the existing "Display" Control Panel application? Is the source available for these applications and where can I find it?
Up through CE 6.0, the source code for all Windows CE Control Panels can be found on the development PC where Platform Builder is installed at:

I don't have a CE 7.0 installation handy to verify the location, but I suspect it's going to be in the same place or something very similar if you're using a standard shell (SYSGEN_CTLPNL). If you're using the new "Silverlight" shell ('SYSGEN_CTLPNL2`), then it's likely to be in a different location, but all of the source is still available.
I have a network with one server that is connected to the internet and some clients that are not.
I want to download and install Microsoft products on my server first and let the client computers download the installer later from the server.
The questions are
where does the WPI save the downloaded files?
is it possible to run WPI and force it to install the Microsoft products from the already downloaded files rather than downloading again from Microsoft's server.
Note: Assume there is no license issue, hopely :-)
It will be cached under %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\installers if you are on Vista or above, or in the equivalent location on XP (there is no %LocalAppData% environment variable in XP).
If the products are downloaded, they will be installed again from the cached location, unless they were updated, which would change their hash and force Web PI to download them again. Moreover, you can copy the cache folder from one computer to another to the same location and Web PI will pick it up automatically and install products from cached installers.
Microsoft has released a tool called Web Platform Installer v4 Command Line which has a switch to prepare an offline installation. Quote from the page above:
Creates an offline cached copy of a specified set of products and
applications so you can install while offline
Example:
Ex: >WebPICMD.exe /Offline /Products:WebMatrix,SQLExpress /Path:c:\OfflineCache
The above will create an offline cache at c:\offlineCache that contains WebMatrix and all it's possible dependencies!
