I’m using PyQt4/PySide, but this problem occurs in both, so I think it’s a Qt problem generally. I have a TableView. When I want to set the background color of highlighted table items in Windows, I can get the TableView’s palette and call
palette.setColor(QPalette.Highlight, QColor(someColor))
and that sets the background color of a highlighted item, no problem. However, this does not work in Linux. (Specifically the different versions of Ubuntu that I’ve tried.) Instead the highlighted color is always an orange color that Ubuntu likes to use. Is there a way to fix this? Setting other types of colors, such as QPalette.Text, works fine, it’s a QPalette.Highlight issue only.

I have been trying to customize the Hint color in TextInputLayout and it works fine. But the problem is that I have to define color when there is an error, normal/Activated which is working and disabled state of the field.
So I tried creating three different styles with color normal, color activated and so on. But this doesn't seem to change the colour. I have indicated the Appcombat theme as the parent theme as well in my custom styles. I have tried applying these styles through java file as well.
Also let me know on how to define the size of the Hint text through style.
A bit late to the party, but here goes my solution to this:
Set the same style in errorTextAppearance and hintTextAppearance, both with the same color for the item android:textColor. When showing an error, set the error using a spannable with a ForegroundColorSpan with the color you wish to display in the error field, while the hint will remain in the color defined by the style set in errorTextAppearance.
I've been building a website under Ubuntu 17.10 and use Firefox and Chromium for testing. The two browsers show quite different colors (not only for images but all colors) and I always thought that it is Chromium which for some reason wrongly over-saturates them, so up until now I always chose colors that looked right in Firefox.
But I'm starting to get more and more complaints about the website's background being too purple - which it shouldn't be in my opinion as only the blue component of it's color (#eeeeff) is "elevated", but it has reached a point that more people are seeing it as purple than blue, what makes me confused.

The difference is quite large (notice how even the favicon is different) and I'm asking you to tell me which one is the browser I should trust when choosing the colours of my websites and whether I could do something to avoid it being displayed so differently in different browsers.
(There are some users that see the overly saturated colors in Firefox too. So now which is the right one, really?)
Another option is to open chrome://flags/ and select the option sRGB on the Force color profile item.
By using this setting instead of disabling the Use hardware acceleration when available, you don't lose some nice features like the 3D view on Google Maps.

Using GPick as a Color Picker and calling a Website with Color Hexcode like

I see, that Firefox renders the RGB Colors exactly, meaning GPick identifies the same Hex Code from CSS.
Whereas Chromium renders some kind of differnt color.
You can call
chrome://flags/#force-color-profile
and set the Color Profile in Chromium to sRGB, so the rendered Color from Chromium is identified the same as the HexCode with GPick.
If you disable 'Use hardware acceleration when available' in Chromium Settings and relaunch, Chromium displays colors correctly. When turned on, Chromium colors are off. I consider this as a workaround until Chromium color management issue with hardware acceleration is resolved.
With the other two colours being equal, your colour is right in the middle of "blue territory".
If you convert it to HSL and look on the hue line, you can see it is right in the middle of the "blue" frequency range.
Consequently, any hint of green or red is incorrect.
I've made a simple shape editor. I can change colors (used to fill shapes) by click on buttons in a menu bar. The disadvangate of this solving is the fact that the numbers of colors are so restricted. I can't find a better solution for my program. Can somebody help me and give me an idea how can I improve it? I thought about color palette, but I have no idea how can I do this.

You would need to use a color picker where the colors are distributed on many pixels and not on a very small set of color names. Since you are using applet, you might want to download an already made color picker compatible with your environment, or you might want to write your own, depending on whether the things you find meet your expectations.
I want the color scheme to span completely across the terminal boundaries. I am using Color Scheme Scroller Plugin to switch between different theme. I have uploaded a .gif file so that you can clearly see what I want to get fixed. Vim colorschemes doesn't completely change the color of editor. There are some terminal color's borders left around the vim's overridden color scheme. How would I fix it.

You can't do that from Vim itself.
Terminal emulators use that padding to preserve readability when characters are displayed next to the borders of the window. The programs you run in your terminal have no knowledge of that padding and thus no ability to change it.
But you can read the documentation of your terminal emulator or take a look at its source code to find a way to enable/adjust/disable that padding.
FWIW, there's no way to change that in Terminal but it can be done for iTerm.
Alternatively, you could simply set the background color of your terminal to the one used in your vim colorscheme.

within the grid, most terminals provide some capability of drawing text with specific foreground and background colors
the grid can have a default background color which is not any of the specified colors
outside the grid, the window can also have a default background color
normally, the grid- and window-default backgrounds are the same
the window can be resized to (more or less) arbitrary sizes
the grid is constrained to exact character sizes
because of this difference, the window can have areas outside the grid which use its default color, and not match the grid's background color.
escape sequences which could affect the grid- and window-background colors are doing erases (see for example the ncurses FAQ My terminal shows some uncolored spaces).
though it is conceivable that erasures within the grid could affect those outside areas, doing that generally leads to odd visual effects.
What I'm trying to say is, when selecting a bit of code, the special coloring a word has (purple for keywords, blue for member variables, brown-ish for local identifiers...) is overwritten by black.
I'm not sure whether this is a Linux thing or if there are some settings I haven't seen. Changing foreground selection color in Preferences unsurprisingly only changes the color the font has and doesn't influence the fact that its color gets overridden - what I'd like is something like a transparent foreground selection color. I'm on Fedora 22 if that's of any relevance.
