I'm having a bit of an idiot problem with NetBeans since some time.
i open a file which has a variable named $dayFrom i select the variable and press
ctrl + F and fet the search box shown.
Now here comes the idiot part... it does not find the variable! even the one I selected...
I tried so in both NB 7.1 and 7.3 and it is still present in both of them.
I imported the settings from 7.1 to 7.3 so I am guesing some option is messed up there.
Anyone has an idea where to turn the damn thing on?
And one more funny thing when i search dayFrom withot the $ sign it works like a charm...
This was the error.... from my side.... regular expresion was turned on... this shuold be HIGHLIGHTED in any way... it drove me crazy for like 2 days...

I have been working with Dash and Plotly for Python for quite a while now. Everything was working (in fact, it still does). The problem is I opened VS Code this morning and I have a bunch of highlighted errors on all my .py files. They all show an error like this:
Argument of type "list[dict[str, Any]]" cannot be assigned to parameter "options" of type "_UNDEFINED" in function "init"
"list[dict[str, Any]]" is incompatible with "_UNDEFINED"
This was not here when I last worked on this project (about two days ago). I can still run the web app and it works as expected, but it is really hard to keep working when I have all this highlighted text for apparently no reason.

Does anyone know why this could have happened overnight, and how to fix it?
It looks like you have inadvertently switched type checking on.
In VSC, hover over the curly braces next to 'Python' that appears in the footer at the bottom of the application window to toggle it on and off.
Seems like that you haven't choosen the Python interpreter in your IDE. Select it from the setting of your IDE.
I am using Sublime Text 3 and every time I press tab it will add an extra tab. My settings are to display tabs as an actual tab (not spaces) and is equivalent to 4 spaces. My issue causes a single tab to therefore create 2 tabs the length of 8 spaces.
For example, if I am trying to indent it will tab twice and I will have to delete one tab.
If I select a block of text it will indent it twice and result in the text being deleted and I have to undo it once to bring the text back.
Also, when using auto complete I normally hit tab to auto complete the first option. It will select the option and do a tab after it. I am not sure if this is an option or setting but its extremely annoying and I have not found a solution yet.
Sublime Text double tabs on tab key press
Sublime Text deletes/removes text on indentation / tab
Both problems are due to a popup (most often the SFTP free version popup for me) hiding in the background. If you make sure to close the popup windows every time they appear you will not get these issues. You could also pay for Sublime or the plugin to remove the popups.
In OSX you can't focus back on Sublime Text without clicking on the popup, so you will never have these problems.
I just had the same issue. I just restarted Sublime and it worked again, no need to reinstall or change any settings.
I just encountered this problem recently, and it appears to only happen on Windows. In my case, the pop-up "Hello! would you like to purchase sublime?" was open in the background, and that caused this issue for me. Once that pop-up is closed, everything works just fine.
Although the question is three months old at the time of writing, this might help people that are still looking for an answer. After having this issue for a while, it annoyed me so much that I traced back the issue.
The double tab issue only happened after a while, so I figured it was triggered by a certain key combination, being pressed wrongly. I've also noticed that the bug only occurred at Windows, not on Linux (Ubuntu).
After disabling all Sublime Text 3 plugins one by one, I've noticed that, for me, SFTP triggered the bug. This happened upon saving, SFTP started uploading, and displayed a evaluation notice. As I've purchased SFTP (and activated it), the double tab bug never occurred again. Even after enabling all other packages, the double tab never troubled again.
This is only one solution to the problem, your problem might originate from something else. Try to disable packages which might cause the problem and try to find the problem that way. It's a lot of work, but might get you the solution.
This solution worked for me on windows:
Just go to
View -> Layout -> Single
Just upgraded from Dreamweaver CS5.5 to Dreamweaver CS6, and this is a little thing, but its really starting to grate:
In CS5.5 whenever I opened apostrophes, it would auto-complete the closing apostrophe. Then whilst typing if I typed the closing apostrophe it would just skip past the auto-completed closing apostrophe.
eg: class="page"| <--being the cursor
In CS6 however, when I type to the closing apostrophe it adds another apostrophe without skipping past the auto-completed closing apostrophe.
eg: class="page"|" <-- the exact same sequence of keys typed as above, but results in this.
Is there any way to get CS6 mimicking the same behaviour as CS5.5?
Yeah this is possible, but I'm not using my windows machine right now (I'm in linux).
I'll go back home and follow up immediately, but to the best of my memory the options are in
Edit -> Preferences
After that I think it was in "Code Hints"
One of the options there has the solution to your problem.
Note on Dell/ASUS Machines
Dell and ASUS sometimes implement this 'feature' where if you press ", it gets autocompleted. This interferes with dreamweaver. Then the only solution is to simply turn off code hints.. sorry.. :(
I am not quite sure what happened ... alt-backspace won't backward-kill-word any more in my Cygwin install. It looks like I did an update on 7/17/2013, not sure what was in the update, I usually just pull whatever's the latest version of the modules I have.
Backspace itself works, it's with the alt that nothing happens. I tried both right and left alt keys.
I couldn't figure out where to start here - I didn't change anything in my Mintty settings, or in my .inputrc at all. I'm at a total loss...
Thanks!
Well, never mind. I just had to restart my laptop. And the problem's gone.
I recently updated my Eclipse to the latest release 3.5 and since then I have a very annoying problem with c&p using the shortcuts.
In an editor (xml, jsp, doesn't matter which one) I try to copy something and paste it somewhere else, nothing happens. When I cut out something and put it somewhere else I sometimes get something else (like a messed up part of my previous selection) or just some whitespaces. This gets even worse when I change lines in between.
First I thought that my keyboard is probably broken but it works just fine in other programs. Then I tried using the context menus' c&p and there it works. Yesterday I managed to get at least an error message when I tried to copy a file in the navigator from one project to another (the message was just "error using copy...bla". no details).
Does anyone else have this problem, or know how to solve it?
I am running on Kubuntu 9.04, and have quite some plugins installed (but only from the Galileo Updates Site), like Birt, Mylin, WST, or Subversive.
For my problem, I had to go to Window > Preferences > Java > Editor > Typing, and uncheck "Update imports"
This must be related to the key mapping, since those shortcuts are defined according to context.
(Column "When", in Preferences / General / Keys)
Check if those shortcuts do not work for any editor (do they work for Java editor?)
If they work for some editor, not for other, then some plugin settings must have re-affected them to another command.
This is caused by various X clipboard managers doing weird things with the clipboard. (bug report).
In XFCE the clipman applet was rolled in XFCE 4.8, and will be the source of these problems.
To fix this in XFCE - kill xfce4-settings-helper. You will need to use Settings Manager -> Session and Startup -> Session to kill it, as otherwise it may restart automatically.
To prevent this starting next time, you will need to remove it from your startup/login programs in Settings Manager > Session and Startup > Application Autostart.
Problem was solved with newer Eclipse releases. I think >= 3.6. Depending on your distribution there may be a (back)port of this (not on my Xubuntu 11.04) within the repositories.
So a tarball installation of Eclipse 4.0 works perfectly for me. Cut&Paste works and I am lucky that my plugins are compatible to 4.0.
Unfortunately Sublime Text has the same problems.
I read somewhere that in KDE maybe Klipper / "Klipper on the panel" conflicts with eclipse copy action.
It's a tool for clipboard history. Try to remove that! It may solve your problem :-/
For me the xfce4-settings-helper killing worked.
Workaround:
You can cut&paste from the compare view. So simply compare the un-copyable file (e.g., local history) with a different version and Control-C what you need there.
In the *.java editor page, right click and select open in text editor. Past your snippet there. Your Snippet will show in the *.java page'
I use Eclipse Kepler for PHP development. It's dumb I know.
None of the solutions suggested here has solved this source of frustration.
I can confirm the copy function works whether shortcut keys are bound or not. As I can copy from eclipse and paste into any other application. Except eclipse.
My solution. Accidental discovery: Eclipse Kepler will allow you to paste outside the php open and close tags and allow you to click and drag the highlighted block of content into into position.
Acceptable solution for small bits of code. Horribly crippling for larger development environments.
For Xming, this resolved the problem for me. In XLaunch uncheck Clipboard (clipboard manager) in the "Specify parameter settings" GUI form.
