AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed not found in Metabase.xml IIS 6.1 Server - iis

I'm running IIS 6.1 and I am attempting to upload a file through the browser. I'm running into issues when I upload large files. After doing some digging around, I know I have to edit the AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed parameter in the metabase.xml file, however that parameter is not set to begin with.
When I attempt to upload a file, I get the following erorr:
request object error asp 0104 : 800004005
Thanks.

Use adsutil.vbs to set the AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed parameter from a command prompt:
cscript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/ASPMaxRequestEntityAllowed 2048000
sets the value to 2MB
adsutil.vbs is located in C:\inetpub\adminscripts
Be sure to give the account running the Application Pool write permissions on the directory you're trying to write to. If I remember correctly, the default AppPool account in IIS6 is NETWORK SERVICE

How do I increase the maximum size for failed request logs?

I am using the Failed Request Tracing component in IIS. One of the logs it has written ends with a LOG_FILE_MAX_SIZE_TRUNCATE error.
According to the documentation, this is controlled by the maxLogFileSizeKB settings:
If failed request tracing logs exceed this value, IIS will truncate the logs at the maximum file size and specify LOG_FILE_MAX_SIZE_TRUNCATE for the trace event.
The default value is 1024.
Apparently, I am supposed to be able to configure that value by clicking the Sites node, and then opening the website default dialog box. However, that maximum log size setting doesn't seem to be in there (German screenshot, but it should be analogous in other localized versions of IIS):
The docs also explain how to change the setting directly in Web.config, but instead of the depicted <traceFailedRequestsLogging> element, I only have a <traceFailedRequests> element in my Web.config files.
Curiously, I cannot even find any Web.config file on my entire disk that contains the general settings configured for the module (e.g. the target path for the log files):
What am I doing wrong?
The actual reason behind the error message was the FREB logs were too big. By default, IIS truncates the FREB log files at 512KB. for the FREB logs there was simply too much data for the log files to complete.
To resolve the issue you could run the following commands so the next time an HTTP error was triggered you will receive the full FREB log file and it pinpointed the exact problem:
cd /d "%windir%\system32\inetsrv"
appcmd set config /section:sites -siteDefaults.traceFailedRequestsLogging.maxLogFileSizeKB:1024
note: do not forget to run the command prompt as administrator.
you could also make these changes by using the iis Manager GUI:
1)open iis manager. select server node
2)double click on the configuration editor from the middle pane.
3)in configuration editor select section "system.applicationHost/sites".set the value for maxLogFileSizeKB.
4)apply the changes and restart the iis server.

Using Umbraco with Subfolders

I have built an Umbraco project (7.2.2) on my local machine and it all works well. I now want to copy it to our test server running IIS 7.5.
I have created a Virtual Folder in IIS under the default web site and copied the project across. The url I am using is www.ourserver.com/testumbraco. I can access the content ok but if I try to login to edit the content I get a blank page (umbraco#/login/false) and shortly afterwards it returns to the login page with Session timed out.
If I Inspect the page I can see that some resources have failed to load with Error 404. It is looking for www.ourserver.com/umbraco and not www.ourserver.com/testumbraco/umbraco.
Is there a configuration setting I need to change to make this work properly?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
You need to update the umbracoPath setting in the web.config

IIS Application Request Routing Server Farm Settings

On an IIS server with Application Request Routing, new server farms to be routed to can be added by right-clicking Server Farms -> Create Server Farm.
This will pop up a dialog where the settings for the server farm can be entered. I did not manage to find a way to edit or view these settings after they are accepted in the Create-Serverfarms-dialog.
My question is therefore: How can I edit the target-url, http-port and https-port settings of a server farm outside of the create-serverfarm dialog?
You could use the command line to do so.
For example, lets say we have a Server Farm called test with one application server www.example.com in it:
All the following commands need to be run in the %windir%\system32\inetsrv directory unless you have it in your PATH.
To change the target-url of the application server to www.google.com, use:
appcmd.exe set config /section:webFarms /"[name='test'].[address='www.example.com']".address:www.google.com
You can change any parameters the way you would do it with the dialog (and even more).
To get the list of parameters you can use with the command line:
appcmd.exe set config -section:webFarms -?
And particularly the section you seem to be interested by:
And finally, to view the current config of your server farm:
appcmd.exe list config /section:webFarms
Should get you something like:

Update:
You may generate PowerShell script from IIS Manager.
Web Server (IIS) Administration Cmdlets in Windows PowerShell
Also, you may edit C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config file manually.

IIS 7.5 Virtual Directory to Mapped Drive

I have an S: which is connected via a username that exists both on server1 & server2.
The mapped drive works fine.
I connect this as a virtual directory called config in IIS it connects and works fine. I can see in content view the files in the mapped drive.
When I attempt to browse to one of these files it gets an error 500
http://www.mydomain.com/config/file.html
file.html is there
I've done this before, Im sure its a permission or security issue somehow, but I cant work it out
500 - Internal server error.
There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.
Give up mapped drives please,

The answer was two part.
Part one I was simply browsing the website, I wasn't using https and thus I was getting a different IIS site that didn't have the virtual directory.
Part two was I was using ColdFusion attempting to run a .cfm from the virtual directory, even with the correct website, it still got an error 404.
The resolution for this was to ensure the ColdFusion service was run as Administrator rather than LocalSystem and all was good.
Just for everyones reference, if you create the same username / password on both servers, share using that username, connect using UNC path and that username and it will work, no special permissions or anything.
Thanks to Karl & Lex for the help.

IIS FTP 7.5: Custom Auth Provider not working Error 530

I have recently install Server 2008 R2 on a new server and want to use the FTP capabilities that are now shipped with IIS 7.5.
Since my users are not windows users, I was using IISAuthManager but this prodiver does not offers home directory on a user basis.
I found this sample http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/669/how-to-use-managed-code-c-to-create-an-ftp-authentication-provider-using-an-xml-database/ to get going with a simple xml based user config. But i can't make it work. It's always gving me
Response: 530-User cannot log in.
Response: Win32 error: The system cannot find the file specified.
Response: Error details: An error occured during the authentication process.
I used procmon to get if the xml config file was read with no luck. I don't even think my assembly is being used.
Anybody ever had the same issue ? Basicly, any tips would be apreciated.
The IIS FTP custom providers are a nightmare to debug. In this case sounds like a config error, check that you followed the set up instructions (or manually checking applicationHost.config). Or post your code (inc config) if you still need help.
Barry
IIS Manager > Your site > FTP Authentication
Probably, you have all Basic and Anonymous Authentication disabled.
One of them should be enabled.
