Does anyone know of a site where I can download temporary SWF files to use as placeholders during web development? I've searched a lot on Google and can't dig anything up like this?
Was wondering if there is something similar to what http://placehold.it is for PNGs, but just need soemthing for SWFs.
I'd like to just grab one and use it to drop into my code, so all the Flash designer has to do is just replace the temporary SWF with the one that's going to be used on the live site.
Here ya go: http://clearmpls.com/temp/placeholder/
Source files: http://clearmpls.com/temp/placeholder/placeholder.zip
You could have your flash designer make one. It would take literally 10 seconds.

Hi I have an xpages app that I have built using the mobile extension library controls. The ap works fine if you go straight to the notes server but as soon as we use netscaler to access we are getting errors accessing the extention libarary files. We have tracked it down to not being able to access these “/xsp/.ibmxspres/dojoroot-1.6.1/dojo/dojo.js or whatever is in or around there.
For this post http://www.intec.co.uk/domino-8-5-3-greater-power-over-dojo-thanks-ibm-for-your-work/ it looks like these files use the new OSGi plugin functionality and are contained in a jar file on the server rather than as separate files on the domino server. Any idea how we can get the citrix gateway to see these files and use them?
Thanks
Mel
Seems like a Netscaler configuration problem to me. If the manuals don't help, ServerFault might be the better place to ask this question. As a wild guess: /. might be blocked by default since ../../../ is a popular path-traversal attack vector. Let us know how it goes
My freind and I want to setup a collaborative project where we both work on a HTML file (and do PHP) at the same time (bit like Google Docs share feature). I want to be able to work with him to teach him certain things in PHP and HTML while I also code at the same time. Any suggestions? I have a VPS I thought we could use for it so nothings really going to get in our way. Maybe something like GIT or something?
Sounds like what you need is a real-time collaborative text editor. Here's an extensive list from wikipedia.
I use Google Docs personally but Microsoft has added this type of functionality into Office and there are a slew of desktop and online tools on that link. I had looked into Etherpad before but i don't remember enough to suggest one or the other. All of the links are on the wikipedia article so I won't repeat here.
I have a simple HTML site with 100+ pages or so. I want to add a search bar at the top so the user can search the site. I know about Google Custom Search, but it shows ads unless you pay at least $100. Obviously I'd like ad-less search on my site for free if at all possible!
I've also heard about Lucene/Solr, but they do not actually crawl the site. For that I would apparently need Nutch.
Anyway, the site I have runs on a Microsoft IIS6 server, but I have basically no knowledge as to how Solr, Nutch, etc. gets "installed" on the server.
Also: I'd like to point out that I do have a local copy of the site. Perhaps I can do one big initial nutch "crawl" locally that will create an .xml for Solr?? That would help me get "up and running", but probably wouldn't be a good long-term solution.
..so should I just use Google Custom Search? or is there a not-extremely-painful-to-implement alternative? The brain hurts folks.
You did not mention how many search requests you want to handle but if you use the json-rest-api of google's custom search you have 100 searchqueries a day for free and you can display them without any ads on your page.
An simple example request can be found here.
Here is an easy way that works pretty well, although you may be looking for something more than this.

You can create code to paste into your site in about 2 minutes. It doesn't get easier than that. Search is powered by Google, but results are isolated to your website.
EDIT: This no longer works.
I redesigned a website that was using CMS Made Simple. It's a relatively small site and I'm learning as I go along, so I first built the redesign using just HTML but I'm now going to use PHP includes.
But I don't know how to integrate what I'm building into the CMS. I searched around the server and I can't find any traces of the pages built with CMSMS, so I assume that everything is contained somewhere within the CMS.
But I want something that will allow pages to be built and edited both inside and outside the CMS. If it's done outside, I want to be able to just FTP the new or changed content to the server.
Is this possible, and if so, what would be the best free CMS?
Thank you.
I don't know if I understood yout question, but I think you don't understand the concept of a CMS.
The redesign you made should only change the Theme/Style files, the content itself should be changed only in the administration of the CMS. What you may change from outside and FTP is only the theme files.
Things work this way so the person that put content in the site doesn't have do be a designer/developer.
BUT, there are some kind of CMS that may allow you to do what you want, but they are not completely free. Give it a look at CushyCMS and PageLime.
Since they intend to be a CMS for editing already made static sites, you may use it and if needed you can pull some page from FTP, edit it and then push it back.
You can try Template Externalizer http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org/projects/externalizer, which will give you FTP Access to Edit different content blocks, all templates, css and some content. I'm sure it will make your life easier when developing or integrating HTML into the page.
Template Externalizer, "watches" a FTP folder. and when you upload files onto the server, it saves the changes into the database making your change visible right away.
The files willl be located here: CMSROOT-INSTALLATION-PLACE/tmp/externalizer/
I hope this helps a bit.
We have a medium sized .js file that we include in our web framework that I am porting over to SharePoint. However, I'm not sure how to go about this or what the best practice is. This is for a framework solution that will be used by other client projects, so it's best for it to be self contained and deploy-able, rather than requiring manually deploying files to the webserver.
My current thinking to put the JavaScript into an embedded resource and then use the script manager to write out the file. Does this seem reasonable? Or does anyone have any other recommendations?
Embeded resource is the best way and you don't need to use the ScriptManager to render it out (as AJAX is not configured OoB on SharePoint), you can just render it as any other client script resource (through the ClientScriptManager).
Best idea is the have an if ContainsScriptManager else UsClientScriptManager style.
That way you get the best of both worlds
You could just toss it into a doc library.
If you are packaging your web part into a sharepoint solution, you could include it as a Module (VSEWSS item). Your manifest file would get something like:
<TemplateFiles>
<TemplateFile Location="LAYOUTS\somescript.js" />
</TemplateFiles>
Theres lots of info on how to do this on the web. I've liked the doc library option for images, css, and javascript because I don't have to rebuild and wait for for SP to JIT compile for 30 seconds each time I do a minor tweak to some style or script. I just edit these things in SPDesigner right out of the doc library.
Create resource mapped folder in your project and put the js file there and give the referene of the js file as _layout/jsfilename.js and this js file will be deployed with your project where ever you will deploy it.
