I need my torrent client 'Transmission' to say to a torrent-tracker that it is another torrent client (uTorrent).
How can I do it? May be there is a simple way...
If no, the question is - where can I edit sources of the transmission port on FreeBSD and then install it?

Masquerading as another torrent client is something to look in the options for.
If you want to edit the sources, though, run "make patch" in the port directory, and then look in the work subdirectory for the sources. (patch will have run the FreeBSD specific patches after unpacking the code)

Windows program to communicate with Virtualbox

I am wondering if it is possible to write a program on Windows that communicates with a program within a Linux Virtualbox on the same machine. If this is possible, what is the best approach to doing this? Is there a way to do this without using the internet to communicate?
I found instructions showing how you could potentially use SSH, but I have never tried doing this before, so I do not know if using SSH to communicate would be the best option.
I was going to put this as a comment to a very vague question, but then it got too long.
It depends what you mean by "communicate"....
If the Windows machine should start a program on the Linux VM, you probably want plink.exe - see here.
If you want to transfer whole files, you probably want scp or FTP or FileZilla - see here.
If you want to send small messages occasionally, maybe netcat, also known as nc - see Netcat Cheatsheet here.
If you want full-on, high speed, continuous messages, maybe sockets or some messaging protocol like mqtt.
If you want to share data structures, like lists, queues or sets, you could allow both Windows and the Linux machine to access a shared Redis database - see here.
Or maybe it is enough to share a filesystem between the two machines - in which case you can make a Shared Folder in VirtualBox on your host and the VM can just mount that and read/write it. See diagram:

opensips open ims and asterisk configuration for audio video calls on Ubuntu?

I am not sure if it is a correct place for such question but unfortunately I did not find any other stackexchange site to ask this question. But I have read some similar question here like on Open IMS and on Asterisk.
My Question is, I want to make audio and video calls on my Linux based Local network(Ubuntu 12.10 based). By googling a Lot and studying I found that Open IMS, Asterisk and Open SIPS do what I need. But I am not sure what they are? and whether they fulfill my requirements? How to configure them to make audio video chat system on LAN?

You can configure an openims server and then use a sip client to register with it. Doing so you can make audio and video calls to another sip client.
openims configuration can be done on an linux based system.
i will describe in simple words here, although it is old thread but for any body searcing in future.
OpenSips can work as a proxy sip server, which is used for scaling purposes. But it does not have media server, which means it can route calls from A to B but can not do codec conversion or IVR for example and it is efficient, an alternative brother is Kamalio, and opensips has a web interface to configure.
Generally speaking, many people use Opensips -> Asterisk or Freeswitch.
If you want to scale more, HA Proxy is an option.

Linux per program firewall similar to windows and mac counterparts

Is it possible to create GUI firewall that works as Windows and Mac counterparts? Per program basis. Popup notification window when specific program want to send\recv data from network.
If no, than why? What Linux kernel lacks to allow existence of such programs?
If yes, than why there aren't such program?
P.S. This is programming question, not user one.
Yes it's possible. You will need to setup firewall rules to route traffic through an userspace daemon, it'll involve quite a bit of work.

Because they're pretty pointless - if the user understands which programs he should block from net access he could just as well use one of multiple existing friendly netfilter/iptables frontends to configure this.
It is possible, there are no restrictions and at least one such application exists.
I would like to clarify a couple of points though.
If I understood this article correct, the firewalls mentioned here so far and iptables this question is tagged under are packet filters and accept and drop packets depending more on IP addresses and ports they come from/sent to.
What you describe looks more like mandatory access control to me. There are several utilities for that purpose in Linux - selinux, apparmor, tomoyo.
If I had to implement a graphical utility you describe, I would pick, for example, AppArmor, which supports whitelists, and, to some extent, dynamic profiling, and tried to make a GUI for it.
OpenSUSE's YaST features graphical interface for apparmor setup and 'learning' , but it is specific to the distribution.
So Linux users and administrators have several ways to control network (and files) access on per-application basis.
Why the graphical frontends for MAC are so few is another question. Probably it's because Linux desktop users tend to trust software they install from repositories and have less reasons to control them this way (if an application is freely distributed, it has less reasons to call home and packages are normally reviewed before they get to repositories) while administrators and power users are fine with command line.
As desktop Linux gets more popular and people install more software from AUR or PPA or even from gnome-look.org where packages and scripts are not reviewed that accurately (if at all) a demand for such type of software (user-friendly, simple to configure MAC) might grow.

There are real antiviruses for linux, so there could be firewalls with GUI also. But as a linux user I can say that such firewall is not needed.

Now where i would like to switch to Linux, I tried to find the same thing as I want to be in control of what leaves my PC.
During my research I found a lot of questions about that topic. This one, in my opinion, best describes what it is about. The question for me is the same. I want to know when an application tries to send or receive information over the network/internet.
Solutions like SELinux and AppAmor might be able to allow or deny such connections. Configuring them means a lot of manual configuration and does not inform when a new application tries to connect somewhere. You have to know which application you want to deny access to the network.
The existence of Douane (How to control internet access for each program? and DouaneApp.com) show that there is a need for an easy solution. There is even a Distribution which seems to have such a feature included. But i am not sure what Subgraph OS (subgraph.com) is using, but they state something like this on there website. It reads exactly like the initial question: "The Subgraph OS application firewall allows a user to control which applications can initiate outgoing connections. When an unknown application attempts to make an outgoing connection, the user will be prompted to allow or deny the connection on a temporary or permanent basis. This helps prevent malicious applications from phoning home."
As it seems to me, there are only two options at the moment. One is to Compiling Douane manually mysqlf or two, switch distribution to Subgraph OS. As one of the answers state, everything is possible - So i am surprised there is no other solution. Or is there?

Remote Linux Server setup plan

I have an old computer with formatted drive lying around collecting dust, now I want to instal a linux like OS (any suggestions?) on it and install a web server, preferrably Lighttpd. I want to set up a server so that I have an environment to practice web development in PHP or Java. My problem is I dont want to hook up another set of keyboard/mouse/monitor to that old computer, and if possible I want to remote boot/shutdown the server from this computer that I use to type this question.
I did some google search, but the results are never comprehensive or suitable for my circumstance. Any input would be appreciated, book recommendation or link to a good resource are fine too.

You actually needs an unattended (silent) linux installation, which may trigger beeps to tell you when the installation is done. Hope this can help you refine your search on google.
You'll definitely need at least a monitor or KVM and a keyboard if you want to install any OS on it.
For server OS, you could try going for CentOS / Ubuntu. However, if your requirement is just to practice your PHP and Java, you could even use your existing laptop / PC and, assuming windows, you can just install wamp or xampp, to install your apache/php/mysql with just clicks.

I'm a blind student currently in a system admin/shell programming class. Although ssh works fine for executing commands like ls, pwd, etc editors do not work well with my screen reader and an ssh session. I was wondering if it is possible to mount a Linux folder over ssh so it appears as a windows drive? This way I could edit any files I needed to with accessible software and not have to constantly use SCP to send files back and fourth.
Back in 2002, Novell developed some software called NetDrive that can map a WebDAV, FTP, SFTP, etc. share to a windows drive letter. It is now abandonware, so it's no longer maintained (and not available on the Novell website), but it's free to use. I found quite a few available to download by searching for "netdrive.exe" I actually downloaded a few and compared their md5sums to make sure that I was getting a common (and hopefully safe) version.

SFTPNetDrive is the current project from the original netdrive project. And they made it free for personal use:

Dokan looks like a FUSE and sshfs implementation for Windows. If it works as expected and advertised, it would do exactly what you are looking for.

The best an easiest solution I found is https://github.com/billziss-gh/sshfs-win, connected servers shows up as a fully functioning network drives. This is not a 'Dokany' or 'dokan' based solution which from experiance seems more stable and performant, also see WinFsp Performance Testing.
Please note previously this answer stated, https://github.com/Foreveryone-cz/win-sshfs and before that http://www.swish-sftp.org/ but I no longer use any of them, first one stopped working second one created drives not fully supported in all programs.

Take a look at CIFS (http://www.samba.org/cifs/). It is a virtual file system you can run on your linux machine that will allow you to mount folders on your linux machine in windows using SMB.

You need to mount a remote share on your windows machine. This is what Samba/smb is for.
What you'll be doing is turning your Linux box into an SMB server, which lets it share files in a way that plays nice with Windows.
If you're not on the same network, you'll need to tunnel this through your SSH connection which may not be worth the effort.

I don't think you can mount a Linux folder as a network drive under windows having only access to ssh. I can suggest you to use WinSCP that allows you to transfer file through ssh and it's free.
EDIT: well, sorry. Vinko posted before me and now i've learned a new thing :)
Apparently the free NetDrive software from Novell can access SFTP file servers.
Second David's answer below: I needed to mount a network drive automatically when users logged in. Dokan SSHFS is a nice tool, but wasn't reliable enough in this case. The copy of Netdrive I found didn't support SSHFS or sftp - not sure if a more recent one does.
The solution I'm trialling now involves adding a virtual network adapter (with file sharing disabled), using plink to open a tunnel via the new adapter to the remote machine running SAMBA, and mounting the network drive against the new adapter. The tunnel and network drive can be set up with a login script, so a few seconds after login users can use the mapped drive without needing to take any action.
