I want to run VS Code on my device but without whole desktop environment like GNOME or xfce. Just VS Code and nothing else.

I am setting up a new Linux device and I'm relatively new to Linux, what are the benefits of using apt for things? is there any other command that is better than apt?
apt is the default package manager on Debian derivatives (like Ubuntu). There are other alternatives like yum (which is the default on the RH family of distros like Fedora). A discussion of "better" or "worse" won't make much sense to you if you're new to Gnu/Linux.

i am trying to get the remote access from windows system to linux system using teamviewer but when the connection is established the windows system sees the black screen. so anyone can help me how to establish the fair connection.
I had the same problem - for me with two solutions. On some systems, it just took about 30sec for the screen to build up (in that case, just be patient) and in the other case, there was a driver problem. Try to change the driver to the default ubuntu one and deactivate the proprietary hardware driver in that case.

I have a Fedora 14 desktop which I'm trying to use to connect to a client's mainframe (running z/OS). There's a popular 3270 terminal emulator for Windows, but I haven't been able to find one suitable for Linux.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
If you are looking to emulate 3270 then there is no dearth of choices.
You can use Wine and Quick3270 emulator. I have tried this and its just awesome.
Linux based:
a. x3270: http://x3270.bgp.nu/index.html - Tried it. Its decent and FREE (free as in Freedom)
b. Jagacy 3270: http://www.jagacy.com/downloads.html (Haven't tried it, but it was used by my colleagues. Its really good.)
My love - Quick3270 running over Wine.

I have recently been given a HP Proliant DL385 server, which came with no HDDs. So I bought a new HDD and put it in. All great so far.
My problem comes with I want to install ubuntu on it. The other problem is, there is no optical cd-rom drive/floppy drive.
How would I go about doing this without inserting a ubuntu install disk? Can I do it through some command line interface/network install?
Thanks
Ubuntu can be installed over network
or from a USB stick
This might be helpful. Also, if network install is not an option, maybe you can put the hdd into another machine and install the system there? If you have luck, the it will work when you move the HDD back to the server.
