Blazor server app cannot download .msg files - iis

I have a Blazor Server 6.0 app where I have links to download .msg files.
I have setup IIS to serve that mime-type trying both application/octet-stream and application/vnd.ms-outlook (and restarting IIS)
I have also tried to put in web.config the staticcontent tag like suggested here:
.msg file gives download error
And obviously in my program.cs I have app.UseStaticFiles();
I try to put the .msg in a non-blazor app and they work ok, so I think is not IIS related
So why I cannot download (or open automatically in outlook) this type of file, while other (docx, pdf, zip, etc.) are Ok ?

ASP.NET Core -- on the server side -- also needs to know about the files it has to serve. You can enable serving all unknown file types (I'd rather not include the relevant code as it is a major security risk), or you can add you own additional mappings like so:
var provider = new FileExtensionContentTypeProvider();
provider.Mappings[".msg"] = "application/vnd.ms-outlook";
// app.UseStaticFiles();
app.UseStaticFiles(new StaticFileOptions()
{
ContentTypeProvider = provider
});
More info in the official docs: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/aspnet/core/fundamentals/static-files?view=aspnetcore-7.0#fileextensioncontenttypeprovider
Additionally, Blazor Server registers custom options for serving static files (like .server.js, which is different from just .js). It's not directly exposed as a public API to configure, but you can look at the source here as to what the AddServerSideBlazor extension method actually does. The solution there relies on you calling UseStaticFiles without explicitly specifying the options, so that it can retrieve the StaticFilesOptions instance from DI.
Armed with this knowledge, you can override an already configured options instance as follows:
builder.Services.PostConfigure<StaticFileOptions>(o =>
{
((FileExtensionContentTypeProvider)o.ContentTypeProvider).Mappings[".msg"] = "application/vnd.ms-outlook";
});
This configures the already initialized options instance registered in the DI (after all other configurations happened on it, thus PostConfigure).
Note that if you would for whatever reason decide to use a different IContentTypeProvider, the unsafe cast above would need to be revised as well.

Files transfered via FTP to Azure app services are not accessible with URLS

I have deployed an ASP.NET CORE web API project on Azure app services. I have copied a file using an FTP client to /site/wwwroot. Now let suppose file name is xyz.jpg, so it should be accessible with link somename.azurewebsites.net/xyz.jpg but ITS NOT. I have tried pasting the file in other folders to but nothing works.
I also have a controller for uploading pictures. It's also working fine. It uploads the picture in desired folder, i can see the picture via FTP client but still the picture is not accessible via any link. What am I doing wrong here ?
For a Web API application, you have to define the request and response yourself in the controller, or your link can't be recognized by the application.
For example, you can add the method to your controller. It works on my side.
[Route("myroute/{pic}")]
public IActionResult Get(string pic)
{
Byte[] b = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes("image/"+pic);
return File(b, "image/jpeg");
}
In my code, pictures are stored in the folder called image in the root directory, and I define a route called myroute.
Here's my link to access the picture.https://myappname.azurewebsites.net/myroute/mypicname.jpg
Hope it helps.

How to Upload images from local folder to Sitecore

`webClient.UploadFile("http://www.myurl.com/~/media/DCF92BB74CDA4D558EEF2D3C30216E30.ashx", #"E:\filesImage\Item.png");
I'm trying to upload images to sitecore using webclient.uploadfile() method by sending my sitecore address and the path of my local images.But I'm not able to upload it.I have to do this without any API's and Sitecore Instances.
The upload process would be the same as with any ASP.net application. However, once the file has been uploaded you need to create a media item programtically. You can do this from an actual file in the file system, or from a memory stream.
The process involves using a MediaCreator object and using its CreateFromFile method.
This blog post outlines the whole process:
Adding a file to the Sitecore Media Library programatically
If you're thinking simply about optimizing your developer workflow you could use the Sitecore PowerShell Extensions using the Remoting API as described in this this blog post
If you want to use web service way than you can use number of ways which are as follows:
a) Sitecore Rocks WebService (If you are allowed to install that or it is already available).
b) Sitecore Razl Service(It is third party which need license).
c) Sitecore Powershell Remoting (This needs Sitecore PowerShell extensions to be installed on Sitecore Server).
d) You can also use Sitecore Service which you can find under sitecore\shell\WebService\Service.asmx (But this is legacy of new SitecoreItemWebAPI)
e) Last is my enhanced SitecoreItemWebAPI (This also need SitecoreItemWebApi 1.2 as a pre-requisite).
But in end except option d you need to install some or other thing in order to upload the image using HTTP, you should also know the valid credentials to use any of above stated methods.
If your customers upload the image on the website, you need to create the item in your master database. (needs access and write right on the master database) depend on your security you might consider not build it with custom code.
But using the Sitecore webforms for marketers module With out of the box file upload. Create a form with upload field and using the WFFM webservices.
If you dont want to use Sitecore API, then you can do the following:
Write a code that uploads images into this folder : [root]/upload/
You might need to create folder structure that represent how the images are stored in Sitecore, eg: your images uploaded into [root]/upload/Import/ will be stored in /sitecore/media library/Import
Sitecore will automatically upload these images into Media library
Hope this helps
Option: You can use Item Web API for it. No reference to any Sitecore dll is needed. You will only need access to the host and be able to enable the Item Web API.
References:
Upload the files using it: http://www.sitecoreinsight.com/how-create-media-items-using-sitecore-item-web-api/
Enable Item Web Api: http://sdn.sitecore.net/upload/sdn5/modules/sitecore%20item%20web%20api/sitecore_item_web_api_developer_guide_sc66-71-a4.pdf#search=%22item%22
I guess that is pretty much what you need, but as Jay S mentioned, if you put more details on your question helps on finding the best option to your particular case.
private void CreateImageIteminSitecore()
{
filePath = #"C:\Sitecore\Website\ImageTemp\Pic.jpg;
using (new SecurityDisabler())
{
Database masterDb = Sitecore.Configuration.Factory.GetDatabase("master");
Sitecore.Resources.Media.MediaCreatorOptions options = new Sitecore.Resources.Media.MediaCreatorOptions();
options.FileBased = true;
options.AlternateText = Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(filePath);
options.Destination = "/sitecore/media library/Downloads/";
options.Database = masterDb;
options.Versioned = false; // Do not make a versioned template
options.KeepExisting = false;
Sitecore.Data.Items.MediaItem mediaitemImage = new Sitecore.Resources.Media.MediaCreator().CreateFromFile(filePath, options);
Item ImageItem = masterDb.GetItem(mediaitemImage.ID.ToString());
ImageItem.Editing.BeginEdit();
ImageItem.Name = Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(filePath);
ImageItem.Editing.EndEdit();
}
}

Nancy on Owin doesn't serve static content

I'm running self hosted Nancy web application on Owin and have troubles with static content.
Let's say my application runs from this folder:
c:/myfolder/
My Views are in here:
c:/myfolder/Manager/Views/
so in my browser I can go to http://localhost:85/Manager and my page loads.
I simply can't make it to serve static content though, all my files are in /Content folder, I tried to place it both to /myfolder and /Manager folder with no luck.
Neither http://localhost:85/Manager/Content/css/styles.css nor http://localhost:85/Content/css/styles.css urls work
How do I get it to work?
Fixed the problem by adding these lines of code to Startup :
using Microsoft.Owin.FileSystems;
using Microsoft.Owin.StaticFiles;
...
var options = new FileServerOptions()
{
RequestPath = PathString.Empty,
FileSystem = new PhysicalFileSystem("/Path/here")
};
app.UseFileServer(options);

Change configuration in runtime by changing environment variables using the module node-config

I'm trying to use the node-config module to change some parameters of my configuration (basically logging level) during runtime.
In the official documentation says:
Environment variables can be used to override file configurations. Any environment variable that starts with $CONFIG_ is set into the CONFIG object.
I've checked that this is true when the server starts but it does not seem to work once it's up. (The handler of the watch function is never called when an environment variable is changed unlike a change in the runtime.json file or directly changing a config variable).
I'm currently watching the whole CONFIG object like this:
var CONFIG = require('config');
CONFIG.watch( CONFIG , null , function(object, propertyName, priorValue, newValue){
console.log("Configuration change detected");
});
Does anyone know if this is possible?
The environment is available during startup of a process.
If the process is running, you won't be able to change the environment anymore, the process is in.
The only option is to restart the process or use other mechanisms to communicate with it.
Say for example having a rest or tcp listener inside, where you can transfer your variable inside.
Best regards
Robert
As you must knowing, React is a single page application which is eventually when it is complied is a static page app that means all the files of the react application is complied into vanilla JS and CSS file bundle in a Tarball. Now that Tarball is eventually deployed on a web server. It could be Apache web server, nginx web server or anything which you are using it but an important point is the static app is running in someone else browser and someone access to website CSS and JS are downloaded in a browser and it is running in the browser runtime environment so technically you cannot have a runtime environment variable for someone else browser but may be there would be a way to access them during runtime.
SOLUTION
I have achieved this goal with the package called runtime-cra.
follow the steps on this official documentation: https://blog.risingstack.com/create-react-app-runtime-env-cra/

Uploaded image only available after refreshing the page

When I upload a picture, the file is successfully saved and the path is successfully set. But the uploaded image is not displayed immediately after the form submit. Only when I reload the page, the uploaded image is displayed.
I'm saving the uploaded file as below:
InputStream is;
try {
File file = new File("C:\\****\\*****\\Documents\\NetBeansProjects\\EventsCalendary\\web\\resources\\images\\uploadPhoto.png");
is = event.getFile().getInputstream();
OutputStream os = new FileOutputStream(file);
setUserPhoto("\\EventsCalendary\\resources\\images\\"+file.getName());
byte buf[] = new byte[1024];
int len;
while ((len = is.read(buf)) > 0) {
os.write(buf, 0, len);
}
os.close();
is.close();
} catch (IOException ex) {
System.out.println(ex.getStackTrace());
}
Why is the uploaded image only displayed after reloading the page and how can I solve this?
You're writing the file straight into the IDE's project folder and your intent seems to save the file in the webapp's deploy folder. This is a bad idea and well due to the following 3 main reasons:
Changes in the IDE's project folder does not immediately get reflected in the server's work folder. There's kind of a background job in the IDE which takes care that the server's work folder get synced with last updates (this is in IDE terms called "publishing"). This is the main cause of the problem you're seeing.
In real world code there are circumstances where storing uploaded files in the webapp's deploy folder will not work at all. Some servers do (either by default or by configuration) not expand the deployed WAR file into the local disk file system, but instead fully in the memory. You can't create new files in the memory without basically editing the deployed WAR file and redeploying it.
Even when the server expands the deployed WAR file into the local disk file system, all newly created files will get lost on a redeploy or even a simple restart, simply because those new files are not part of the original WAR file.
You need to write it to a fixed path outside the project/deploy folder instead. For example, /var/webapp/uploads. Then, to get it to be served by your webapp, just add it as a new web application context to the server.
Based on your previous question, I know that you're using Glassfish 3.1. In this server, it's called a "virtual host". You can configure it at server level in the admin console at http://localhost:4848 > Configuration > HTTP Service > Virtual Servers, or at webapp level by adding the following line to the /WEB-INF/glassfish-web.xml (your IDE should have autogenerated one; note that this file is before Glassfish 3.1 called sun-web.xml, so if you're seeing manuals/blogs/tutorials referencing it, yes it's exactly the same file):
<property name="alternatedocroot_1" value="from=/uploads/* dir=/var/webapp" />
Either way, you should then be able to use http://localhost:8080/contextname/uploads/* to serve those uploaded images from by <img> the usual way.
