android chipmonk can't see local variables when stopped in a function - android-studio

When I'm stopped at a breakpoint in a function and I try to look at local variables, it tells me that they are not found. I can see global variables, just not local ones. I'm sure this must be possible, but not sure how to do it. I'm using the latest release of Android Studio (Chipmonk).

Android-studio goes endless loop when trying to compile MLKIT-sample code

I'm trying to compile and run Google's MLKit sample https://github.com/googlesamples/mlkit. Code uses kotlin and there is one compiling issue, where I had to add '.toString()', when 'String' was expected, but got 'String?'. After that manual code correction gradle process tries to compile the project, but task ':app:mergeDexDebug' newer ends. Tried hours. I use Ubuntu 20.04, downloaded official Android-Srudio, unzipped to my home directory's subdirectory and let it to upgrade itself as it wanted.
Android-Studio wan't to upgrade MLKit project to use newer gradle and gradle-wrapper and tried both let upgrade to be done and not to upgrade, but there was no difference. Grdle-process continues until it goes to task ':app:mergeDexDebug', which newer ends.
I have downloaded latest java and set my set it in other projects's settings to be used and kit works fine with those project. Anothed option is use Android Studios internal java and it seems, that MLKit sample project uses that, because, when you open new project in Android-Studio, it start co compile MLKit sample projectit automatically and you don't have time to configure it by hand before to compile. Or yes, I have some time to comfigure foreground, because gradle works in background, until gradle is in the task ':app:mergeDexDebug', but it is hard to test result of that kind configuration, because you can't exit from Andpoid-Studio normally, but it warns you that gradle processes are still running and when you exit, java-processes will still keep running and if your kill them, but gradle cache will not be in normal state and there will be lockfiles etc and you can't use grade until you have removed gradle cache. So it is hard to study what goes wrong. Any idea?
Seems that problem was with gradle settings, too low memory setting. Because I could not compile original MLKit example projects, I started to build another project based on MLKit example projects code. With that process I had error in compilation also and adjusted gradle memory setting from original 256MB to 1024MB and continued. After some hours and some Android Studio restarts I checked original MLKit example project, and noticed that it had been compiled in background. I could install it in to my phone. By the way, this example project introduces bar code scanning and object detecting. Object detecting does not do anything reasonable, because it can maybe show objects in camera view or picture, but can not name them, but barcode scanning works fine.

How do debug if my application has the launching issue

we made one application on Visual Studio 2008 , it about to release. but now we are getting the crash while launching the application . could you please any give a suggestion how do i debug on this particular issue
You can run the Release build in the debugger, too. Turn on debug-info settings in both the compiler and linker tabs (I think that was not the default in vs2008 and there were two distinct places to set) but don't change any optimization options or other setting.
Then launch the program from the debugger. If the resulting EXE shows the crash when run normally but not when started via the debugger, there are more things to make the situations work the same (and that shows clues as to what is wrong, too). So let us know if that still doesn't reproduce.
There could be a lot of reasons for your application's Release is crashing.
Did you link proper Release libraries with your application in Visual Studio project configuration ?
Check your code for some missing Release specific code.
My best guess is you are not linking to proper libraries for the Release version of your application.
Also, one reason could be that your application may be trying to load some file that may not exist. This happens with me sometimes when my Release build of application does not find file that it needs (Eg: OpenGL application trying to load a shader file that is missing); and you don't check for errors.

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when building my cloud project

When I build my solution with a bunch of cloud projects, I see one or more "Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" messages in the output. When I try to run one of the cloud projects, I get the popup "There were build errors. Do you want to continue and run the last successful build", but there are no errors in the Error List and the same "Error: Object ref..." errors in the output.
When I click package on my cloud project I get a messagebox with "Object reference not set to an instance of an object", also when I right click -> properties on the project reference under "Roles" in the cloud project.
If I use the command line to build my solution with msbuild, I don't get the error.
I tried restarting Visual Studio as well as my PC. I also tried reinstalling Azure Tools (2.1) and then Visual Studio.
My colleague is now getting the same problem on Visual Studio 2013 RC.
Has anyone had the same problem?
I've searched, but only found people with problems when publishing, where the solution is to package manually.
I had the same problem. Right click on the cloud service project, unload the project. Reload it again.
Try removing the role from the cloud project, re-build solution (if there are errors please post them), then add the role back into the cloud project and re-build.
I had a similar issue when a publish exited out and I started receiving the 'Object not found' error. VS2013 (in my case) was reporting that 'diagnostics.wadcfg' was missing and had unusually stored this into a different directory.
By going into the project file (.ccproj) and removing the erroneous entry from the 'Project\ItemGroup\Content Include "\diagnostics.wadcfg" and reloading the project - everything kicked back into life.
Failing that, check a working project file against the offending project file for inconsistencies.
You don't have to remove your roles and add them back in again, which is really annoying because you have to preserve the contents of your cscfg and csdef files. Instead, close Visual Studio, delete the solution's .suo file and open the solution back up again.
I wanted to let everyone know I was dealing with a very similar situation, albeit with a different version of the Azure SDK (1.8). I have many projects with Cloud Services that I have created built numerous times and then all of sudden could no longer open them. Attempting to open the Cloud Service configuration UI resulted in the “Object not set to a reference” error. I could open the actual XML file, but not the GUI interface.
I attempted to reinstall the 1.8 SDK and tools numerous times, as well as VS 2012 to no avail. I finally tried installing the latest SDK (2.2) and now I can open the projects. Not sure what changed in my system prior to this but glad I was finally able to open my projects again!
I also had this error when building. Projects within the solution would build independently but building the entire solution failed.
I have learnt usually these types of issues are caused by invalid azure role or configuration files. In my case it turns out a .cscfg config file rename on another branch was merged with my branch but it didn't rename the file – therefore the .ccproj file in my branch was incorrectly referring to the new name but only the old filename existing in the solution. After manually editing the .ccproj with the new filename I closed/reopened the solution and things started working.
I had a similar issue with VS2013 express after creating a view in my MVC project.
I reverted the project with git, but this did not solve the issue. I also checked the project out to a different location on my pc, but this did not solve the issue. I was able to check the project out on my laptop without seeing this issue.
In the end, I undinstalled VS2013 express and all of it's counterparts and re-installed. This solved the issue.
I had this bug (but not using a cloud project). Turns out the character encoding that Perforce (P4V) was using was wrong, it should have been UTF-8. After changing to UTF-8 and re-syncing the code, Visual Studio was able to find and compile the project just fine.
Maybe a hint: I got the same error message, when compiling VS2013 Dot42 project - realized it was caused by assigning concrete value of some inner type (in my case Enum) to INullable variable:
private SomeClass.SomeEnum? _var1;
...
_var1 = SomeClass.SomeEnum.XY; // causes compilation error
The solution was, not to use INullable:
private SomeClass.SomeEnum _var1;
None of these answer helped me. I decided to reinstall the Azure tools, and noticed that I had more than one version installed. I uninstalled the old versions, reinstalled the latest version, and this fixed it for me.
I got the same message while publishing our project too, though in Visual Studio 2010.
For me, deleting all the files from bin folder worked.

WindowsSdkDir per project?

I have a Visual C++ library which I want to compile for a certain platform (I try to compile POCO for a Win CE ARM platform, but that might not be relevant to this question). I got a vendor-specific Windows CE SDK (including all common Windows include files e.g. winbase.h) which is set as target platform within the Visual Studio project files. However, when I compile the program, I can see from the error log that the default Windows 6.0A SDK is used, resulting in a bunch of compilation errors.
I guess the WindowsSdkDir ist not set accordingly - I thought this would be automatically overriden when setting the target platform within Visual Studio.
So my question is: can I modify the WindowsSdkDir for a single project explicitly?

Which CE version, which VS version and on which Windows version? I know that I had problems installing CE5 and/or CE6 SDKs and getting them recognized by Visual Studio 2005 running on Windows 7 (64 bit). I don't remember the exact symptoms and fix, but you can test that by simply creating a smart device project for the target SDK.
If that is not the issue, there is also the pitfall with the target in both the project file (.vcproj) and the solution (.sln). You can change both independently from each other, up to the point where you compile the x64 debug version of a project in the win32 release version of the solution. Verify that these setting match.
Then, if you adjusted the .vcproj file to use your target platform (for which I personally would use a text editor), things should work. If you need to adjust the build or some paths, you can sometimes get by with e.g $(Platform) in the compiler/linker settings.
Lastly, if all that doesn't work, there are property sheets, which can adjust certain settings. You then create a property sheet once and then load it into the project that you want to compile. I'm not sure if you can change the target platform or the SDK paths with that approach though, and I'd rather try to find out why the SDK doesn't work and how to fix it instead.

Visual C++ ATL Com registration issue

I have a Visual C++ 6 project that is creating a COM DLL. This is an old project that I have not used in years but I came back to it recently to update some functionality of the DLL. The issue I am having is that when I try to manually register the DLL (using regsvr32) that is created by the project, I get no response whatsoever. It does not say it succeeds and it does not say it fails. I have verified that the DLL is not being added to the registry. I have never seen a situation with regsvr32 when it would not show any confirmation message.
Also, the DLL is set to self-register in the project and when it attempts to do this, it also does not show a message.
I have not touched this project in a long time, but the last time I did touch it, it worked without issue. Now I come back to it, and all of the sudden I am having this problem. It is as if the DLL being created by the Visual C++ project is not compatible with the current version of Windows. I have updated the development software to SP6 but it has not changed the situation.
I ran Depends on regsvr32 when it was pointing to the created DLL, and it shows this message:
LoadLibraryExW("C:\Source32\BIS\Projects\ALFA\DigiPixSvc\DigiPixObj\Debug\DigiPixObj", 0x00000000, LOAD_WITH_ALTERED_SEARCH_PATH) returned NULL. Error: The operating system cannot run %1 (182).
Can anyone please tell me why this is happening and what I can do to correct it?
Disclaimer: since I don't have VS 6.0 installed anymore, I'll have to use some Google searches to give you the exact steps for the VC 6.0 dialogs - so some of this information may be inaccurate. I believe it's correct - it's really what you'd do in the current IDE, just for VC 6.0.
Before you go through the trouble of debugging your DLL, make sure you run it through Dependency Walker to verify that all your dependencies are on your machine. Don't run Dependency Walker on regsvr32 - what matters is whether your DLL has its dependencies. If they're missing, regsvr32 won't be able to load the DLL.
To see if your DLL is getting loaded by regsvr32 when you try to register it, you need to debug through the DLLRegisterServer() function and see what happens there - this is one of the 4 entry points a COM DLL must have and regsvr32 calls this function when the DLL is about to be registered. In order to do this, you'll have to set regsvr32 as the startup program of your project and pass the full path to your debug-built DLL as a command-line parameter to regsvr32.
Bring up Project Properties for your project.
Go to the Debug tab.
Make sure the General category is selected.
Enter the full path to regsvr32 in the Executable for debug session textbox.
Enter the full path to the debug version of your DLL in the Program arguments textbox. Make sure you have a PDB file for your DLL so you can see symbol information during debugging.
Put a breakpoint on the first line in DLLRegisterServer(). The code in this function may be long or short, depending on how it was created: generated by a wizard, written by a developer, etc.
Start debugging.
Your breakpoint should be hit and you should be able to step through the registration code and see at which point it fails.
