I updated android studio from 3.3 to 3.4 version and after install and do ./gradlew lint I am getting the next error:
Deprecated Gradle features were used in this build, making it
incompatible with Gradle 6.0.
Then I use the next command to get more details:
./gradlwe build --warning-mode=all
And I get the next message:
Failed to apply plugin [id 'com.android.application']
Minimum supported Gradle version is 5.1.1. Current version is 4.4.1. If using the gradle wrapper, try editing the distributionUrl in .gradle/daemon/4.4.1/gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties
to gradle-5.1.1-all.zip
And when I edited my gradle-wrapper.properties, I see that the changes were already done, I.E. the version of the distributionUrl already was gradle-5.1.1.-all.zip
Any idea that how can resolve this?
You could just edit YOUR_APPLICATION_FOLDER/gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties and change the last line to:
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-5.1.1-all.zip
Android Studio will download necessary library.
This was my solution.
My_project
/gradle
/wrapper
/gradle-wrapper.properties
Modify this line with the Gradle 5.1.1
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-5.1.1-all.zip
Finally, I was able to solve this dropping the folders of the oldest version in ~/.gradle/wrapper/dists and leave only the gradle-5.1.1-all
In my case, gradle failed to download the version I specified though I tried all previous solutions.
Apparently, I was opening my project by selecting "MyProject/App" directory. Gradle successfully updated when I opened the same project by selecting the "MyProject" folder.
Check your full project and find all "Gradle-wrapper.properties" files. If your project has multiple modules then there are chances of having multiple. and set -
distributionUrl=https://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-5.1.1-all.zip
Gradle sync
If not done then invalidate the cache and restart the project.
Still not working then go to your root directory on Linux and find .gradle folder. Delete it and restart the android studio.
If you use Ubuntu and all above answers didn't solve your problem try to upgrade gradle on your Ubuntu with this commands from this answer https://askubuntu.com/a/975018/714791
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cwchien/gradle
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt upgrade gradle

I resolved by two below steps.
delete gradle folder
check your classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:{$gradleVersion}
My gradleVersion is 3.5.3.
I solved this by changing the distributionUrl in gradle-wrapper.properties in gradle/wrapper, not gradle.properties
Maybe it's your gradle environment variable.
execute 'gradle -v'
Check that the gradle version of the project matches the gradle environment variable version
those who are still facing issue with Cordova/Ionic, this is due to CORDOVA_ANDROID_GRADLE_DISTRIBUTION_URL which is being checked at platforms/android/cordova/lib/builders/GradleBuilder.js

I think it's very important to mention which IDE you're using and what are the configurations.
What made me upset was, I had a setting in gradle-wrapper.properties file which was "ignored" to my mind.
I've found the settings in the IDEA application settings, there:

and everything works as expected.
Deleting 'all other' locally cached versions can never be the right solution ;)

distributionUrl is set at platforms\android\cordova\lib\builders\ProjectBuilder.js
You can set distributionUrl from the command line with
set CORDOVA_ANDROID_GRADLE_DISTRIBUTION_URL="https://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-[version]-all.zip"

I had the same error: Error "Minimum supported Gradle version is 6.1.1. Current version is 5.1.1" but when I opened the gradle.properties and I found this "distributionUrl=https://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-6.1.1-all.zip" which was correct but wasn't working. To solve this, I deleted the ".gradle" file in the explorer, reopened the app and found out the distributionUrl had change to 5.2.2-all.zip in gradle.properties; I then edited to 6.1.1-all.zip and sync and everything worked like a charm. I hope this can help someone else.
Try to download manually Gradle-5.1.1 from https://gradle.org/releases then go to file/project structure/project and put the new version in gradle version. (You can also use this link - jenv.io/candidate/gradle)
I was having the same problem after migrating from android.support library to androidx where junit library start with androidTestImplementation and not
testImplementation.
So i changed
testImplementation "junit:junit:$rootProject.junitVersion"
to
androidTestImplementation androidx.test.ext:junit:1.0.0-beta01
or
androidTestImplementation "junit:junit:$rootProject.junitVersion"
Remember to append android before testImplementation
also, try removing all older/unwanted versions of gradle using:
cd usr/local/Cellar/gradle/

Delete gradle folder from your project directory as well as from the app directory.
restart Adroid studio and resync gradle.
it will solve your problem. If not you might be opened the project yourproject/app. close Android studio and import your project after selecting yourproject. Then resync gradle. This will solve your problem.
For Windows 10:
Go to C:\Users\<user-name>\.gradle\wrapper\dists and delete everything there. Android studio will download the appropriate version afterwards.
If anyone is still searching for a solution after trying literally everything, here's what worked for me.
In the .gitlab-ci.yml file, my image: key was outdated and was writing in the script that Gradle was set to 5.1.1 even though everything in my Android Studio was 7.0.2. After talking to the guy who wrote the image script, I just had to increment the version of that.

This error was solved by restarting Android Studio.
I've clicked on upgrade Gradle or something and now my project doesn't build anymore. This is the error:

I had the same issue, and in my case i already had the distributionUrl set to -> https://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-7.2-bin.zip
After Invalidating the caches and restarting, the error disappeared. Apparently everything its fixed like this with Android Studio... ^_^u

but my android studio version is 3.2.1 and there is no new update from Google
Try to edit your project build.gradle file and set the android build gradle plugin to classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.2.1' within the dependency section.

It's a bit late, But easy and effective.
Click on About Android Studio,
Check the current version,
Open build.gradle of Project and put it in front of the class path. e.g Your studio version is 3.5.2, then your classpath should look like this
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.5.2'
You would need to lower your gradle version and android plugin version, or you can download latest version from beta or canary update channels.
To enable updates from other channels go to Help -> Check for Updates -> Congifure automatic updates and in that dialog select channel you want. After selecting check for update again and it will show you latest version.
This issue is caused due to use of newer version of gradle in the project.
There are two options to resolve this:
Option 1:
Change gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties file
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-4.10.1-all.zip
Change project level gradle build.gradle file
classpath("com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.3.2")
Option 2:
Update your Android Studio to newer version. (Highly recommended)

As a workaround, you can change the build tools version as other people advise.
My project was failing with this dependency:
com.android.tools.build:gradle:7.0.0-alpha03
Now it's working with this:
com.android.tools.build:gradle:4.0.2
As a side note, you should change that dependency in build.gradle in some projects or in dependencies.kt in newer projects.
That was the most updated version that worked.
After an update the Android Studio does not show the layout's design for some reason. I tried newer versions as well, but it did not work. So I decided to downgrade my IDE.
When I opened my project, I got the same error. The solution was the following:
Open the Project Structure.
Select the Project field.
Use the appropriate Android Plugin Version. You can copy it from a new project's structure.
Change the Gradle version too what you need.
OK.
Find the gradle-wrapper.properties file and open it.
Change the distributionUrl to that gradle version url what you saved in the Project Structure.
Or if you don't mind, then you can update your AS.
Had the same Issue when i decided to install another version of Android Studio, what worked for me was:
Creating a new project with the current version of Android Studio just to go check the classpath version at the project level build.gradle inside the dependencies section, at the time it was this:
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.5.0-rc01'
Copied that line and replaced it on the project i was working on.
in project's build.gradle file comment classpath com.android.tools.build:gradle:. File → Project Structure select Android Gradle Plugin Version to match Android Studio version
You can now update your android studio to 3.4 stable version. Updates for stable version are now available. cheers!!!

this issue occur for me after downgrade Java JDK, after upgrade JDK my problem resolved.

This issue arises due to updates, You can resolve this by downgrading the gradle used from
com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.2.1 to a previous gradle like com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.0.0 or anything older than the current one
This usually happens when you're opening someone else's project after unzipping it. And the person has used an updated android Studio.
The way to solve it is
1.Go to Help and about to see your android studio version
2.Go to File>Project Structure> and set your Android Gradle Plugin version to your android studio version
3.Change the Gradle version to the one you usually use.(optional)
Build the project and it should run without any errors

Sometimes you need to change name of project manually(look at AndroidStudioProjects folder) that you opened lastly.
After changing name, android studio will show all projects,
open one of them,
in file menu,
click open button,
then open your desire project (or change its name to its previous name)
change build:gradle plugin to:
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.3.2'
(in app gradle file)
I made sure that my Gradle version was compatible with my android gradle plug in. In my case I was using Gradle 6.0.1 and when I changed my android gradle plug in to version 3.5.3 the problem went away.

I got the following error message when I was importing a project from github:
Failed to refresh Gradle project 'XXX'
The project is using an unsupported version of the Android Gradle plug-in.
Fix plug-in version and re-import project
This is not a duplicate of this because your get thee error message before
gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties
is generated.
The problem appeared after updates. The updated Android Gradle plug-in did not support the outdated version of Gradle I had. But the error message is misleading, if you don't attempt different build options you won't see what the problem is.
After downloading a newer version of Gradle, Imported the project again, then:
Use local gradle distribution
Then Gradle home set to the folder where the new version of gradle was downloaded
that solved it
Edit: From Scott (below comments) : It's preferable to use the wrapper and to change the Gradle version in gradle-wrapper.properties instead of downloading and installing Gradle yourself. As for the Android-Gradle plugin, that's set in the dependencies.classpath block in your build file; see this
I get this gradle-errors in 4 Studio updates! My solution: I copy the Studio-folder, and if gralde throws an error, I copy the old version back. It's not a good way, but until google is not able to deliver an update without producing always the same errors (even if mentioned in many forums), I stay on 4.9 and wait for the first final release.
