If you want to use #SetMetadata (or a simple wrapper around it) then all you would need is something as simple as
export const Report = (title: string) => SetMetadata('report:metadata', title)
Or you could go with your own decorator factory and use the Reflect API like so:

Reflect.defineMetadata('report:metadata', title, target, propertyKey)
}
}
And now using Nest's Reflector you can get the metadata using this.refleector.get('report:metadata', context.getHandler())

Custom param decorator which transform param to database entity

In Laravel (php) has route /article/:article, and in controller method I get the model:

You can implement a custom pipe that injects a TypeORM repository and returns the database entity when prompted with an ID, something like this:

You just need to make sure to use the pipe only on modules that provide the Article EntityRepository.

A clean way to check for query parameter in NestJS

I have a nestjs project that is mostly in RESTful structure. Everything works fine, but my concern is that some of the routes check for the presence of some query parameters to fetch data.
for instance

As mentioned by Micael Levi, you should be able to do this by creating your own custom pipe. Assuming that what you posted works, you should be able to do something along the lines of:

Fluent validator to check if entity with ID exists in database

I'm trying to write a custom validator that will check if an entity exists in the database, using OrmLite. The problem is that the type arguments for IRuleBuilder can no longer be inferred from usage.
I have to write the method call like this:
RuleFor(r => r.Id).Exists<DtoName, int, EntityName>()
But I want to write it like this:
Rulefor(r => r.Id).Exists<EntityName>()
This happens because IRuleBuilder has two type parameters and the method is an extension method. Is there a smart, fluent way to design this and make the function call preferably like the second version?

My experience with FluentValidation is that you’re trying to push more and more logic into validators. I would not do this as it adds too much complexity. My rule of thumb is to validate discrete property values only. Example: I would just use FluentValidation to check if property int Id is 0 or greater than 0. The check if the entity already exists I would move to another service (often called “the business logic”).
You'll need to a Custom Validator for custom validation to access dependencies, something like:

Automatically parse query parameter to object when defined in NestJS

I am writing a NestJS application. Some of the endpoints support sorting e.g. http://127.0.0.1:3000/api/v1/members?sort=-id&take=100 Which means sort by id descending.
This parameter arrives as a #Query parameter and is passed to my service. This service transforms it into an object which is used by TypeORM:

id: 'DESC'
}
I don't want to call this conversion method manually every time I need sorting.
I've tried an intercepter but this one could not easily change the request parameters into the desired object.
A pipe worked but then I still need to add #Query(new SortPipe()) for every endpoint definition.
Another option is in the repository itself. The NestJS documentation is very well written, but misses guidance in where to put what.
Is there someone who had a similar issue with converting Query parameters before they are used in NestJS, and can explain what approach is the best within NestJS?
This question might look like an opinion based question, however I am looking for the way it is supposed to be done with the NestJS philosophy in mind.
Pipes are probably the easiest way to accomplish this. Instead of adding your pipe for every endpoint definition you can add a global pipe that will be called on every endpoint. In your main.ts:

How to properly design API module in TypeScript?

I want to design a TypeScript (2.7) module for accessing external IS, let's call it InfoSys. I used the following approach.
I created info-sys.ts which defines a API class and related interfaces and enums, like:

Now I want to export all the stuff under specific name. So I appended the export statement:

The way that works is the following - to export every piece individually:

and import them all to a single variable:

But the name of the variable can be whatever. It is not critical for functionality but I want to force developers, who will use the info-sys module, to use a specific name while accessing it (for easier readability and maintainability). How to properly design such module?
You can use namespace:
export namespace InfoSys {
Api,
Endpoint,
Contact
};
In general, this approach should be avoided. But in your case, it is fine as you are delivering things that are tightly related.
If Api is the single entry point to all these, I would also recommend this:
export class InfoSysApi { ... }
export namespace InfoSysApi {
export enum Endpoint = { ... }
export interface Contact { ... }
}
UPDATE:
To make sure I get the point through, DON'T do the following:
export namespace Foo {
export function X() { return 'x' }
export function Y() { return 'y' }
}
Only use export namespace to export "tugged in types", not values.

Although the table says namespace can contain values, it is considered bad practice if you are writing ESM (import/export).
Namespace and ESM are two different mechanisms to achieve similar result.
Don't mix them together.
