Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 - Apache2 without VirtualHost Configuration presents Website - linux

please help me with the following problem:
I have a fresh installed Ubuntu Desktop 20.4 here and installed Apache2 from the ubuntu-repository.
For a test I disabled the 000-default.conf from the sites-enabled directory with a2dissite and removed the file 000-default.conf from the sites-available directory. "apachectl configtest" shows that the syntax is ok. "apachectl -S" shows, that there is no virtual host configuration. I have restarted the computer, but the Apache webserver still serves the standard Website. There are fresh entries in the "other_vhost_access.log". I wonder what configuration serves this website. I thought, when there is no conf-file enabled in "sites-enabled" apache doesn't serve any website?!
Where did I go wrong? Didn't find anything while searching. It's difficult to find the keywords.
Thanx for any help in advance.
Regards

Apache is serving as per config settings in the main configuration files apache2.conf or httpd.conf

Reverse Proxy Rules Removed automatically from Cpanel httpd.conf file after server update

I am getting en error in Apache since long time.
And the issue is that after some time, reverse proxy rules removed from Apache virtual host automatically.
Is there anyone who can help me out on this issue ?
This issue has been resolved now, with the help of Cpanel support team.
#Cpanel_Reply
The most common reason that a configuration setting would get removed from WHM/Cpanel when rebuilding the httpd.conf file is because the modification was done directly to the configuration file. When cPanel rebuilds the apache conf, it does so using template files and any configuration not in those templates are not included.
#Solution
cPanel Apache Reverse Proxy
Step 1. Download The Proxy Script
wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/varunsridharan/cpanel-apache-proxy/main/proxy.sh
Step 2. Run To Create A New Proxy
sh proxy.sh "cpanelAccountName" "blog.example.com" "http://192.168.1.41:32000"
Step 3. Rebuild & Restart HTTP
/scripts/rebuildhttpdconf && service httpd restart

Symlink to raspberry pi webroot breaks

I have my raspberry pi setup as an internal web server. I have an external hard drive connected to the pi and mounted correctly.
I then symlink two folders from the hard drive to the web root on the pi, one is /Movies, and the other is /Series.
Initially this all works fine, as in if I hit http://192.168.1.17/Movies I get a list of all the files, I then click one and it starts playing no problem. However, after leaving it for a while and coming back, I can still get to the file directory in /Movies or /Series, but when I click a file, the web browser cannot open it.
I have no idea what's going on, it seems weird that I can still access the file directory, but playing a file doesn't work?
Any thoughts or help appreciated.
Are you using an apache server?
If so Symlinking is not a good idea.
An alternative which is more secure and may fix your problem is to install Userdir
sudo a2enmod userdir
Then you need to make a directory in home
mkdir public_html
Restart Apache
sudo service apache2 restart
If you want to change the home directory apache points to you can do so in /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/userdir.conf .Then change the <Directory /home/*/public_html> to the directory you want.
To access you're server simply enter ip_of_Rpi/~pi_username. e.g 192.168.0.100/~pi
more details here: http://ubuntuserverguide.com/2012/10/how-to-enable-and-configure-apache2-userdir-module-in-ubuntu-server-12-04.html
If you are using Apache web server, you can use mod_alias to map some directory in a URL path like this
Alias /mnt/external_disk01/movies /Movies
Alias /mnt/external_disk02/series /Series
Before use alias, make sure it is activated.
To activate:
a2enmod alias

Apache2 Won't Start

I have set up ubuntu server on an old pc with webmin as well. I am not sure what was going on but i restarted the server and when it boots it now get this when Apache tries to start.
* Starting web server apache2
apache2: Syntax error on line 237 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default: No such file or directory
Action 'start' failed.
The Apache error log may have more information.
I have checked this file on this line and it looks like this:
# Include the virtual host configurations:
Include sites-enabled/
I have removed Apache and re installed it but not sure why it still fails.
As also answered by Qben, the issue was an invalid symlink in the sites-enabled folder. Removing the broken symlink and adding a valid one will fix the issue.
You do not have a default site enabled:
/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default: No such file or directory
site-enabled should contain symlinks to files in site-available and I guess your 000-default symlink does not link to a real file in site-available.
I guess this Ubuntu guide might be of interest for you.
One of the reason may be that you might have some site that is not enabled. To check that
Go to /etc/apache2/sites-enabled
Out of many/some [sitename].conf files , one/some may be crossed
Delete those found crossed
Restart apache server
sudo service apache2 restart.
Hope this has helped you , but may be some other reason too. Thank you.

Where to administer apache fallback directory

I have been put in charge of an Ubuntu 13 server installation. Apache is configured to use /var/www as the default directory which is correct. The issue is that it seems there is a fallback directory configured that points to /usr/share. So if I type into a browser (www.address.com) it will serve the documents out of /var/www, but if I know the name of a directory in /usr/share and type in (www.address.com/sharedir) then it will serve out of the /usr/share directory. I have looked in the apache config file and default site config file and do not see this association. I do not want this behavior and am concerned that this is the default behavior out of the box.
Can anyone guide me to another areas where this behavior may be controlled/managed.
Thanks for any assistance.
Open your
/etc/apache2/sites-available/default
file and replace
/var/www
to
/path/to/folder/you/wish
save and it will be better to restart apache by
service apache2 restart
Now put website contents to the new location /path/to/folder/you/wish.
Once you changed the Document root of the of the site as mentioned above, Then no files will be fetched from any other location. Hopes this will help you. :)
[SOLVED] After a bunch more digging around I discovered that the user that originally set up this server erroneously put .conf files in the 'conf.d' directory and 'mods-enabled' directory that were routing traffic to the other directories. Sorry to anyone that noodled on this one.

Xampp not working on Linux

I recently installed Linux and Xampp server. I had been working on it last night and this morning without any problems. This morning I started working the zend framework. Everything was going well until I had to restart my computer.
After restarting, when I tried to access localhost I was getting this message in my browser:
It works!
This is the default web page for this server.
The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet.
I have restarted xampp and apache. In the httpd.conf file I have changed the port from 80 to 8080. I'm running php 5.4.6. I have also reinstalled xampp just to be sure.
As far as I can tell, the only alterations I made outside of the zend project directory were the httpd.conf file. I changed "allowOverride None" to "allowOverride AllowAll". I also installed Composer and phpUnit, though I can't imagine how they would have caused the problem.
Any help you can throw my way would be great. I'm very stuck with this.
This is the default content of index.php or index.html file. Try rename these files.
