Loading data from API to file and then import it - node.js

I want to load some credentials from an API into a Node.js application, and then use them whenever necessary.
Currently there is a file that stores some information and accesses the credentials directly from the environment variables and exports everything. This file is then imported whenever necessary, something like this:

What I want is to do a call to an API from where I retrieve these values, where the values can still be imported after but the call is only made once at the start. A solution I can imagine is doing something like a singleton where you only do the API call the first time. I know I could also export a promise but I do not want to request the credentials several times, only one time when the server runs. Any clean alternatives?

You could make a simple class with a populate() function and getters and export it as a singleton.

Dynamic Slash Command Options List via Database Query?

Background:
I am building a discord bot that operates as a Dungeons & Dragons DM of sorts. We want to store game data in a database and during the execution of certain commands, query data from said database for use in the game.
All of the connections between our Discord server, our VPS, and the VPS' backend are functional and we are now implementing slash commands since traditional ! commands are being removed from support in April.
We are running into problems making the slash commands though. We want to set them up to be as efficient as possible which means no hard-coded choices for options. We want to build those choice lists via data from the database.
The problem we are running into is that we can't figure out the proper way to implement the fetch to the database within the SlashCommandBuilder.
Here is what we currently have:

This code produces the following error when start the npm for our bot on our server:
options is not a function or its return value is not iterable
I thought that maybe the function wasn't properly defined, so I replaced the contents of it with just a simple array return and the npm started without errors and the values I had passed showed up in the server.
This leads me to think that the function call in the modules.exports block is immediatly attempting to get the return value of the function and as the function is async, it isn't yet ready and is either returning undefined or a promise or something else not iteratable.
Is there a proper way to implement the code as shown? Or is this way too complex for discord.js to handle?
Is there a proper way to implement the idea at all? Like creating a json object that contains the option data which is built and saved to a file at some point prior to this command being registered and then having the code above just pull in that file for the option choices?
Alright, I found a way. Ian Malcom would be proud (LMAO).
Here is what I had to do for those with a similar issues:
I had to basically re-write our entire application. It sucks, I know, but it works so who cares?
When you run your index file for your npm, make sure that you do the following things.
Note: you can structure this however you want, this is just how I set up my js files.
Setup a function that will setup the data you need, it needs to be an async function as does everything downstream from this point on relating to the creation and registration of the slash commands.
Create a js file to act as your application setup "module". "Module" because we're faking a real module by just using the module.exports method. No package.jsons needed.
In the setup file, you will need two requires. The first is a, as of yet, non-existent data manager file; we'll do that next. The second is a require for node:fs.
Create an async function in your setup file called setup and add it to your module.exports like so:
module.exports = { setup }
In your async setup function or in a function that it calls, make a call to the function in your still as of yet non-existent data manager file. Use await so that the application doesn't proceed until something is returned. Here is what mine looks like, note that I am writing my data to a file to read in later because of my use case, you may or may not have to do the same for yours:

Before we finish off this file, if you want to store anything as a property in this file and then get it later on, you can do so. In order for the data to return properly though, you will need to define a getter function in your exports. Here is an example:

Next that pesky non-existent DataManager file. For mine, each data type will have its own, but you might want to just combine them all into a single .js file for yours.
Same with the folder name, I called mine DataManagers, if you're combining them all into one, you could just call the file DataManager and leave it in the same folder as your appSetup.js file.
For the data manager file all we really need is a function to get our data and then return it in the format we want it to be in. I am using node-fetch. If you are using some other module for data requests, write your code as needed.

This file contacts our backend php and requests data from it. It queries the data then returns it. Then we format it into an JSON structure for use later on with option choices for the slash command.
Once all of your appSetup and data manager files are complete, we still need to create the commands and register them with the server. So, in your index file add something similar to the following:

Most of this is boiler plate for slash command creation though I did combine the creation and registering of the commands into the same process. As you can see, we are grabbing our command files, processing them into a collection, registering that collection, and then resolving the promise with that variable.
You might have noticed that property, was used to then set the client commands in the index.js file.
Config just contains your connection details for your discord server app.
Finally, how I accessed the data we wrote for the SlashCommandBuilder:

Use Sinon.fakeServer with promises and mocha

My problem is the following: I want to test a method that uploads a buch of data into an AWS S3 bucket. The problem is: I don't want to really upload data every time I am testing and I don't want to care about credentials sitting in the env. So I want to setup Sinon's fake-server module to simulate the upload and return the same results then S3 would. Sadly, it seems to be difficult to find a working example with code using async/await.
My test looks like this:

Inside of the uploader.upload() method, I resolved a promise out of a callback. So how can I simulate the uploading-process?

Sinon fake servers are something you might use to develop a client that itself makes requests, instead of a wrapper around an existing client like AWS.S3, like you're doing. In this case, you're better off just stubbing the behavior of AWS.S3 instead of testing the actual requests it makes. That way you can avoid testing the implementation details of AWS.S3.
Since you're using TypeScript and you've made your s3 client private, you're going to need to make some changes to expose it to your tests. Otherwise, you won't be able to stub its methods without the TS compiler complaining about it. You also won't be able to write assertions using the params object, for similar reasons.
Since I don't use TS regularly, I'm not too familiar with it's common dependency injection techniques, but one thing you could do is add optional constructor arguments to your S3Uploader class that can overwrite the default s3 and arguments properties, like so:

After which, you can create a stub instance and pass it to your test instance like this:

Once you have the stub instance in place, you can write assertions to make sure the upload method was called the way you want it to be:

You can also affect the behavior the upload method using the sinon stub api. For example, to make it fail like so:

You'll probably want a completely separate test for each of these cases, using an instance before hook to avoid duplicating the common setup stuff. Testing for success will involve simply awaiting the promise and checking that its result is the data. Testing for failure will involve a try/catch that ensures the promise was rejected with the proper error.
Also, since you seem to be doing actual unit tests here, I'll recommend testing each S3Uploader method separately instead of calling them all in once big test. This drastically reduces the number of possible cases you need to cover, making your tests a lot more straightforward. Something like this:

If I were doing this with mocha proper, I'd group each method's tests into a nested describe block. I'm not sure if that's encouraged or even possible with mocha-typescript, but if so you might consider it.

You need to call the turnOff method on the terminal instance before you create new one.
This also means you need to have access to the instance from both controllers.

Scope in NodeJS / Firebase promise

I'm trying to develop a NodeJS app connecting to Firebase. I can connect successfully, but I'm unable to figure how to manage the scope in the then call.

The callback passed to then is being called asynchronously from another context, so the this doesn't correspond to the instantiated object.
Using ES6 arrow functions you can keep your object context, since an arrow function does not create its own this context.
By the way, the syntax you are using in the then method is not correct, then accepts two callbacks with one argument each one. Check the syntax here.
The catch before the then is not necessary as well I think, it would make more sense to put it at the end.
It would be something like this:

On the other hand, it seems login method is doing an asynchronous operation, so you might want to wait for it to finish in your code. I would make the login method return a Promise, so you can wait for it outside:

Persist data on disk using chrome extension API

I am trying to save some data which should be available even when restart the browser So this data should persist. I am using Chrome Storage Sync API for this. But when I am restarting my browser, I get empty object on using chrome.storage.get.

If this is not some copy-paste error, you are storing under key taskListStore and trying to get data under key loadTaskListStore.
Besides that, according to the documentation on StorageArea.get(), the result object is an object with items in their key-value mappings. Thus, in your case, you should do:
