I have the following chunk of code in a .NET web app used to query AD for a user
using (DirectoryEntry de = new DirectoryEntry(ldap))
{
using (DirectorySearcher adSearch = new DirectorySearcher(de))
{
adSearch.Filter = "(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(samAccountName=username))";
SearchResult adSearchResult = adSearch.FindOne();
}
}
When I run this, I sometimes get the following error:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80005000): Unknown
error (0x80005000) at
System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind(Boolean throwIfFail)
at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind() at
System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.get_AdsObject() at
System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher.FindAll(Boolean
findMoreThanOne) at
System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher.FindOne()
When this error is being thrown, it errors every time it runs. To correct this, I have to go to the IIS App Pool associated with this web app and recycle it. After recycling, the code works ... for a period of time. Then the error comes back a few hours later.
Additional information to note:
The App Pool is still running when it errors. Still, recycling
fixes it
I have this same code running on 2 different web servers that are identically configured. This issue occurs on the first web server but
never on the second
The App Pool is running under an AD service account. The same account is used on the app pool of both servers
I have tried recreating the App Pool associated with this web app without success
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on where to look in IIS for a permanent solution. I can't be recycling the app pool every few hours.
Thanks
In order to keep my scripts I used to use Microsoft source safe but after many issues, I migrated to sourceGear Vault, which stores all the data in a few sql server databases, so that you can backup them, etc.
This question is specific to this version control system called SourceGear Vault.
In the past I had problems with SourceGear Vault installation and they were fixed.
Now again I am finding it not straight forward to install the SourceGear Vault client.
What I have done so far
I have used the following powershell commands to install the server and client:
msiexec /i VaultProServer64_10_0_0_30736.msi
msiexec /i VaultProClient_10_0_0_30736.msi
The server installation went on without major problems, other that you need to make sure you run the powershell above as Administrator. Same is valid for the client install.
Client install is ok too, the bit that I have got a problem is the IIS.
to find the version of IIS on powershell:
powershell "get-itemproperty HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\ | select setupstring,versionstring"
About the .NET version(s) I have installed
running the below Powershell script I get:
Get-ChildItem 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP' -recurse |
Get-ItemProperty -name Version,Release -EA 0 |
Where { $_.PSChildName -match '^(?!S)\p{L}'} |
Select PSChildName, Version, Release, #{
name="Product"
expression={
switch -regex ($_.Release) {
"378389" { [Version]"4.5" }
"378675|378758" { [Version]"4.5.1" }
"379893" { [Version]"4.5.2" }
"393295|393297" { [Version]"4.6" }
"394254|394271" { [Version]"4.6.1" }
"394802|394806" { [Version]"4.6.2" }
"460798" { [Version]"4.7" }
{$_ -gt 460798} { [Version]"Undocumented 4.7 or higher, please update script" }
}
}
}
this is my current IIS SourceGear Environment:
The Application Pools
In the IIS Manager, click on Application Pools. there are multiple
pools for Vault. Check the Advanced Settings for each and look for
"Enable 32-bit Apps." That should be set to False.
I have all disabled the Enabled 32-bits Apps as you can see on the pictures below:
I show only one of the application pools but they are all set the same.
I had the following error but it is fixed now - see below for more info:
when I go to the http://localhost/vaultservice/index.html using google chrome,
I get the following error message:
HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be
accessed because the related configuration data for the page is
invalid.
Error Code 0x80070021
Config Error This configuration section cannot be used at this
path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level.
Locking is either by default (overrideModeDefault="Deny"), or set
explicitly by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy
allowOverride="false".
This locked at parental level was fixed by doing the following:
I needed to change from read only to read/write some of the features: handler mappings and modules

The error message when using the application
This is the error message I am currently getting when connecting using the Vault client:
Unable to connect to http://mathura/VaultService. No server was found
at the specified URL. Please verify your network settings using the
Options dialog under the Tools menu in the Vault GUI Client. Web
Exception: The request failed with HTTP status 405: Method Not
Allowed.
How can I troubleshoot this and get to a healthy installation?
I fixed the problem.
when going to http://mathura/VaultService/VaultService.asmx
I was getting the following error:
The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension
configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file
should be downloaded, add a MIME map.
Then from the question below:
“The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration.” error message
I had to check .NET Framework 4.5 Advanced Services > WCF Services >
HTTP Activation
and that solved my problem.

I tried two different codes to get the C Drive Disk Space on my VPS, they are as follows:
System.IO.DriveInfo di = new System.IO.DriveInfo("C");
Console.WriteLine(di.TotalFreeSpace);
And other one is
using System;
using System.Management;
public string GetFreeSpace();
{
ManagementObject disk = new ManagementObject("win32_logicaldisk.deviceid=\"c:\"");
disk.Get();
string freespace = disk["FreeSpace"];
return freespace;
}
Now these codes are working fine on localhost, however, whenever I am running them under ASP.Net (FW4) Application, W3WP.exe crashes and IIS technicaly restart automatically.
Is there a way around to get the disk space on my VPS without crashing the W3WP.exe ?
I am using IIS 7.5 with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard from GoDaddy
Any help appreciated :)
I think you have to run the AppPool under a different user not the default AppPoolIdentity user becouse maybe it doesn't have enough privilage to access this information.
Environment Details :
1- Application Server : IBM Application Server 7.0.11
2- Web Server : IBM HTTP Server ( IHS ) .
When I requested stopped application for example : TETS1 the below error appeared on browser :
SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle /TETS1 has not been defined.
SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle 192.160.107.11:80 has not been defined.
IBM WebSphere Application Server
How can avoid the above message to appeared on browser ( for security wise )
Thank you .
We can add a custom property which says the server is under maintenance.
For example:
Go to your appserver console -> click on servers -> server types -> application servers -> server1 -> webcontainer settings ->webcontainer -> custom properties -> click on new and add custom property.
Give Name : com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.webgroupvhostnotfound
value : Server is under Maintenance, we regret any inconvenience caused
save this and restart server instance [server1]
That's it.. If your application is down, the error message, which you configured in custom property, will display to the user.
This error that you're getting is the default error generated by WebSphere when no web application is bound to the requested context root (in your case, /TETS1).
WebSphere is sending this text back to the client along with HTTP code 404 (Not Found).
The only way for you to override what's being shown to the client is by configuring IHS to display a particular page whenever the response, coming back from WAS, is HTTP 404.
I have a SharePoint 2013 installation on a Window 8 machine.
I am trying to create a web application and it is taking forever. The creation process never stops. I checked in application event logs and found this error:
*Machine 'SHAREPOINT2013C (SharePoint - 43000(_LM_W3SVC_1458308317_ROOT))' failed ping validation and has been unavailable since '1/22/2013 3:56:48 AM'.*
Searched the web but could not find anything that works for me.
Can anyone suggest a way to resolve the issue? Thanks a lot in advance.
Below are my findings:
In order to recognize routing targets IIS has to be able to process SPPING HTTP method
To test run this code in Powershell:
$url = "http://your-Routing-Target-Server-Name"
$myReq = [System.Net.HttpWebRequest]::Create($url)
$myReq.Method = "SPPING";
$response = $myReq.GetResponse();
$response.StatusCode
If you get the following error message:
Exception calling "GetResponse" with "0" argument(s): "The remote server returned an error: (405) Method Not Allowed."
that means that web front end is not set up to process SPPING HTTP method
To resolve the issue run the following commands on each routing target server:
Import-Module WebAdministration
add-WebConfiguration /system.webserver/handlers "IIS:\" -value #{
name = "SPPINGVerbHandler"
verb = "SPPING"
path = "*"
modules = "ProtocolSupportModule"
requireAccess = "None"
}
This will add a handler for SPPING verb to IIS configuration.
Run the test script again to make sure this works.
So this has to do with the Request Management Service that runs on the WFE servers on SharePoint 2013. The Request Management Service is of no value since you only have one server. If you disable this service on your single server farm these messages will go away and your Web Application creation performance will greatly increase.

I recently faced this issue, I created new Web Application and it was showing a popup of "It shouldn't take long", then after some time it showed a Connection failure page. I browsed to the virtual directory folder for the new web application and found that the folder was totally empty.
Then what I did to solve this problem:
1. Open IIS
2. Go to Applicatin Pools
3. Select Central Admin application pool and right click and select "Advance Settings".
4. There was a property named "Shutdown Time Limit", it was set to "90" by default. I changed it to 400 and clicked OK.
It restarted the applicaition pool automatically. Then again I created new web application from central admin and it worked for me.
I've found that these events correlate to when the specified application pools are recycled (mine are at a specific time in the morning). It's unfortunate that they're logged in the event viewer and can't really clean it up.
