How do I host a website on VM running Tableau Server? - web

I currently have an Azure VM running Windows Server 2016 hosting my Tableau Server. I want to add a simple website to the server through IIS that I can share files with my clients via a direct download link (e.g. a URL that would allow them to download a zip file, www.mycompany.com/file.zip).
Currently, when you visit my URL, it takes you to the Tableau Server instance. The website I want to add would basically be a subdirectory of that URL that hosts a file I have for my clients. So if my clients went to www.mycompany.com, they would be taken to my Tableau Server. However if they went to www.mycompany.com/files/, they would be allowed to download what ever file I attached to that URL.
I created a website under IIS Manager, but for the host name I am not allowed to use forward slashes. E.g. I want to create the website with the URL www.mycompany.com/files/, but have to use www.mycompany.com instead. I'm assuming I cannot use www.mycompany.com for my host name, as that would conflict with my Tableau Server.
How then do I create a website in the manner I am describing? Or is it possible to somehow create a subdirectory within Tableau Server's structure?

You can add virtual directory under website which host name is www.mycompany.com.
Set physical path, alias to files. Then you can access it through www.mycompany.com/files.

Not able to invoke REST APIs Sharepoint 2013 onpremise

I have deployed fresh SharePoint 2013 instance on VM. I am able to create Web-Application and Site-Collection successfully. I can even access my site, create folder, file through web browser.
However, I am not able to access REST APIs for the same site and getting below error. Please have a look on below snippet:
GET http://xx.xx.xx.xx/_api/web/lists
Getting error as "The Web application at http://xx.xx.xx.xx could not be found. Verify that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application."
Please suggest.
are you using with host name or IP?
if you are using hostname, you should add new entry in hosts file.
Structure:
IP Host Name
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx contoso

Or
You can modify alternate access mappings.

Manually change web server domain for IIS

I'm having a bit of an issue with an IIS web application. I copied all the application files from the server, registered the DLL files, set up my DB server locally and now I'm trying to run the application locally, on my machine. The thing is that the app checks the server domain name when you log in and my corporate domain name is not in the list of "allowed" domains so the logging in fails.
Could I edit some IIS application config file(s) to make it look like the web server is actually under a different domain name? I want to keep my machine, overall, in the current domain.
I don't think that you can change the config files in the IIS.

Get domain & subdomain of server by console application

Let's take one case that i hosted my web application on window server 2008 R2 and one exe (console application) running on that server.
I can access that web application by URI:
<subdomain>.<domain>.net , is there any way to get subdomain and domain info from EXE (C#) ?
Thanks in Advance.
The answer is... it depends.
If you only have one site hosted on your box then you can just connect to the local instance via either the IP Address the website on the machine resolves too, or by using http://localhost etc.
When you have a URL, the situation becomes more complicated. The machine could be hosting several websites - how do you know which one you want to connect to? In this instance, I would advise just storing the url you want to connect to in config.
However, it should be possible to list the all of the domains from IIS - you'll need to use WMI.

multiple ftp sites on a single iis server with one ip

can i have multiple iis ftp sites using something similar to web site's unasigned host headers?
i have a dedicated server in a hosting facility and want to make a web site for each of my clients. to add/ remove files and content i want ftp access to each of the sites root folders.
lets say i have 10 sites set up using unasigned host headers... how can i set up 10 analogous ftp sites on the same server? AND NOT USE A DEFINED IP ADDRESS FOR EACH FTP SITE
thanks all
This is probably more suited for serverfault.
Also, I wouldn't use the built-in Windows FTP server. Check out Filezilla Server. It's free and can handle a bunch of users, sites, etc. on one IP.
Also, drop dead easy to configure.

TFS2010: Single Server Deployment wizard, Bad sharepoint URLs

I just installed TFS2010, and set it up with the single server wizard. It installed me Sharepoint Services an let everything working pretty well.
But, the sharepoint URLs it generates from the Server name "server". As my setup is without a domain, the URLs work okay only from the server computer, not from the others.
I have to give access to LAN clients, and Internet Clients, both connected thought my Public Ip.
How can I change those sharepoint IPs from TFS to be generated From the IP, not from the Server's name??
Thanks in advance
Sharepoint is simply an ASP.Net web application sitting on IIS so all the configuration for host headers etc can be added in IIS itself - if you have multiple instance of sharepoint running on the server, you'll have to add URL's using the sharepoint configuration site but most stuff can be tweaked through IIS (IP's its listening on etc)
If you not on an domainan and want people to have access to the site though you'll have to add your machines IP to the DNS server that you clients are using
