I've been searching for hours on how to get say www.xyz.com/payroll to load the contents of www.xyz.com/react while still displaying www.xyz.com/payroll in the address bar
all i have so far is a basic redirect which changes the URL in the address bar to xyz.com/react:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^payroll/?$ /react [L]
`# BEGIN W3TC Page Cache core

I need to redirect all pages of an old site to a subdirectory of our main site. E.g.:
oldsite.com/page1
to
mainsite.com/oldsite/page1
I have tried adding the following to the top of .htaccess
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^oldsite.com$
RewriteCond (.*)$ http://www.mainsite.com/oldsite/$1 [R=301,L]
</IfModule>
When I open a fresh anonymous window, the redirect does not work, even on the homepage. So it is probably another rule getting in the way. The following is at the bottom of the .htaccess file:
# BEGIN W3TC Page Cache core
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} =on
RewriteRule .* - [E=W3TC_SSL:_ssl]
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} =443
RewriteRule .* - [E=W3TC_SSL:_ssl]
RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} =https [NC]
RewriteRule .* - [E=W3TC_SSL:_ssl]
RewriteCond %{HTTP:Accept-Encoding} gzip
RewriteRule .* - [E=W3TC_ENC:_gzip]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} w3tc_preview [NC]
RewriteRule .* - [E=W3TC_PREVIEW:_preview]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} !=POST
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} =""
RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !(comment_author|wp\-postpass|w3tc_logged_out|wordpress_logged_in|wptouch_switch_toggle) [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} \/$
RewriteCond "%{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/wp-content/cache/page_enhanced/%{HTTP_HOST}/%{REQUEST_URI}/_index%{ENV:W3TC_SSL}%{ENV:W3TC_PREVIEW}.html%{ENV:W3TC_ENC}" -f
RewriteRule .* "/wp-content/cache/page_enhanced/%{HTTP_HOST}/%{REQUEST_URI}/_index%{ENV:W3TC_SSL}%{ENV:W3TC_PREVIEW}.html%{ENV:W3TC_ENC}" [L]
</IfModule>
# END W3TC Page Cache core
# BEGIN WordPress
# The directives (lines) between "BEGIN WordPress" and "END WordPress" are
# dynamically generated, and should only be modified via WordPress filters.
# Any changes to the directives between these markers will be overwritten.
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>

RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>
# END WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>

Any ideas on what I should change to achieve my desired result?:
oldsite.com/page1
to
mainsite.com/oldsite/page1
Solved!
I removed all the rewrite rules that were already in there, apart from the wordpress one.
I then used this rule instead of the one I originally posted:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^oldsite.com$ [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.oldsite.com$
RewriteRule (.*)$ http://www.mainsite.com/oldsite/$1 [R=301,L]
</IfModule>
I am trying to use pretty urls so https://example.com/event/1/dog-singing will load https://example.com/events?action=show&id=1
I added the following code to my .htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^event/([^/]*)/?(.*)$ events?action=show&id=$1 [L,NC]
I get a 404 page.
I tried using
RewriteRule ^event/([^/]*)/?(.*)$ index\.php/events?action=show&id=$1 [L,NC]
Same 404 page.
The below rewrite works. But I don't want to load the script from the subdirectory.
RewriteRule ^event/([^/]*)/?(.*)$ wp-content/plugins/testplugin/testplugin\.php?action=show&id=$1 [L,NC]
The one below also works. But it changes the pretty url in the address bar.
RewriteRule ^event/([^/]*)/?(.*)$ https://example.com/events?action=show&id=$1 [L,NC]
EDIT
Here is the full .htaccess
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^event/([^/]*)/[^/]*/?$ index.php?action=show&id=$1 [QSA,L,NC]
RewriteRule ^register/([^/]*)/?(.*)$ wp-content/plugins/testplugin/testplugin\.php?action=register&event=$1&name=$2 [L]
# BEGIN WordPress
# The directives (lines) between "BEGIN WordPress" and "END WordPress" are
# dynamically generated, and should only be modified via WordPress filters.
# Any changes to the directives between these markers will be overwritten.
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]

I've just install SSL for the first time. I've gotten a problem, https://gatorinsurances.com will resolve but https://www.gatorinsurances.com will not resolve.
My .htaccess code:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
# Force https and remove www
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.+)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://gatorinsurances.com%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
# BEGIN WordPress
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
# END WordPress
</IfModule>
How do I make a redirect from all pages following /react-api, such as:
www.example.com/react-api/workout?id=123
www.example.com/react-api/another-site/?id=321
to:
app.example.com/react-api
and I wan't to keep the folder and parameters.
This is what I have tried:
# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?example\.com$
RewriteRule ^react-api/(.*) app.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]
</IfModule>
# END WordPress
But it doesn't work.
Please help
You need to use http:// in your target URL and also change order of your rules and keep redirect rule at the top:
# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?example\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^react-api(/.*)?$ http://app.example.com%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,NE,NC,L]
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>
# END WordPress
I'm trying to redirect all requests to a preview site to a different site. I'm not sure why this is not working. I'm not being redirected when I click the link.
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^site.preview.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) newsite.com/$1 [L,R=301]
</IfModule>
# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>
# END WordPress
Answer is to remove the ! in the RewriteCond as this says only rewrite it if the the url is not equal to site.preview.com but I want it to redirect if that url is entered.
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^site.preview.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) newsite.com/$1 [L,R=301]
</IfModule>
# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>
# END WordPress
