npm version = 7.7.6
This might happen because your system looking for dependencies on the wrong URL.
I hope this work for you :
npm config set proxy null
npm config set https-proxy null
npm config set registry http://registry.npmjs.org/
I faced the same problem I cleaned my npm cache using
npm cache clean --force
To verify if your npm cache is cleaned you can use
npm cache verify
and then try running
npx create-react-app (Your App Name)
It should work

I get this error after running npm i firebase or npm i --save firebase. It doesn't happen when I install any other package
I have tried all sorts of commands like npm cache clear --force, npm config set strict-ssl false, npm config set registry http://registry.npmjs.org, no combination of them seams to fix it.
I am using npm version 8.5.4 and node version v16.14.0
When I run npm config get cafile it outputs null
I tried searching for what a certificate means without any success.
Any help is greatly appreciated
If you are using windows, search "services" in the start menu, then check the "OpenSSH Authentication Agent" service. If the startup type is "disabled", select "automatic (delayed startup)". then restart the computer and try to install firebase. this solved my problem.
please try this command : npm i --save firebase -d it helped me.
I was trying to download expo cli and I got error:-

So what is wrong going on?
If you are using npm version 5 or above:
Try following command:
$ sudo npm cache verify
OR
$ sudo npm cache clean --force
I've had the same problem, and was able to fix it by adding the flag --legacy-peer-deps to the installation command. For instance:
npm i --legacy-peer-deps package-name
Run npm install -g npm & npm cache clean
I had the same problem and solved it with checking my proxxy settings in C:\Users\username.npmrc
here are the settings for the proxy.
proxy=...
https-proxy=...
strict-ssl=false
registry=...
You can set these things through npm with the following:
npm config set proxy ...
npm config set https-proxy ...
npm config set strict-ssl false
npm config set registry ...
Maybe you have to remove proxy and https-proxy to make it work.
I had the same problem in all npm package that I tried to download, and solved just running this command in my Windows CMD.
npm set strict-ssl true
You can try to force clean the npm cache
npm cache clean --force
I did the following steps:
delete node_modules
remove package-lock.json
run npm cache clean --force
run npm install --force
npm install --force was the key to success, because even after doing 1-2 steps, normal npm install resulted in same problem
I am trying to install electron on my ubuntu 16.04, i already have a working nodejs and npm. But suddenly I am unable to install modules by type:

The issue is related to proxy configuration. Based on this answer, you can try the following.
First, try to remove if there exists your initial config:
npm config rm proxy
npm config rm https-proxy
And optionally if needed, try to set your proxy config
npm config set proxy proxy-url
npm config set https-proxy proxy-url
I tried everything but it seems I was using CENTOS which allowing me to install electron. I got help from FlashJonas: and tried installing electron again and it was installed as expected.
sudo npm install electron -g --verbose --unsafe-perm=true
Removing the proxy and https-proxy worked for me, just in case there is another person with a similar situation.
just enter the following in your terminal:
npm config rm proxy
npm config rm https-proxy
Do Any of the following. It Work for me.
Change Internet Connection.
Delete all electron file and then install npm insatll electron.
Try to install old version of electron.
This Error is because it can't able to download "electron-v11.2.1-win32-x64.zip" file. So Change Internet Connection it work for me.
I am behind a corporate proxy and had similar issues. None of the options above helped. In the end, I followed the instructions below to reconstruct the electron cache manually, so that it will not have to hit the network to download the binaries:
https://www.electronjs.org/docs/v14-x-y/tutorial/installation#custom-mirrors-and-caches
Basically I used a personal laptop (i.e. not behind the proxy) to install the latest electron on some test app, and then copied the %LOCALAPPDATA%\electron\Cache folder from my personal to the corporate laptop. Everything worked fine.
I need to install Express Framework for my application.
This is the error which I am obtaining. I tried to set Environment varaibales for my computer towards npm as http://username:password#proxy:port for both http and https.
Also, I have tried the code such as
npm config set proxy http://username:password#proxy:port -g
npm config set https-proxy http://username:password#proxy:port -g
npm config set strict-ssl false.
Even then I am getting the below error.
npm ERR! node v0.12.7

Any help regarding installing Express Framework would be appreciated.
I have also faced same problem, but your last option i.e.
npm config set strict-ssl false worked for me.
after run this command in command prompt I installed express framework with following command:
npm install -g express-generator
Even I got the same error while installing angular cli...
I have used the command "npm config set strict-ssl false" in cmd and then installed using npm install -g #angular/cli...It worked...Thanks
npm config set strict-ssl false should fix it.
In my case it was in a docker environment and I did not copied the .yarnrc that included the sstrict-ssl false directive to the image in the build phase.
Issue:
>npm install

npm install worked after executing this command:
npm config set strict-ssl false
Salam (means Hello) :)
I have the latest version of node.js installed on ubuntu 12.04, I'm not behind any proxies, and my network settings are correctly configured, and were intact since last time when NPM worked fine. But now NPM hangs up installation of any modules with following error:

i had same problem.
it seems that there is some problem with ISP's https handling. doing:
npm config set registry http://registry.npmjs.org/
worked for me
I was having the same problem. Found a solution in this thread.
You can see the effective proxy that npm is using by doing:
npm config get proxy
npm config get https-proxy
If you're behinid a proxy, try this:
mv ~/.npmrc ~/.npmrc.bak
I was having a similar issue with my windows machine and i fixed it by first checking whether my proxy got some value by executing the below command.
npm config get proxy
in return i got the below:
http://usr:pwd#host/:port
So if anyone who is not under a proxy layer first set the proxy as null by executing the below command.
npm config set proxy null
now if you excecute your npm i it should not throw any network error.
I tried multiple solution but most of cases happened with me is network/ssl and proxy issue.Network/ssl cases are very common and there are bunch of solution but with proxy thing I shared my fixes with you.
Bash Commands:
npm config set proxy null
npm config set https-proxy null
npm config set http-proxy null
in my case I'm using https://registry.npmjs.org/ url.
After NULL proxy its start working.
npm set default proxy as http://my-proxy.com:1080/ so either we have to change proxy url or null it.
To get your default proxy hit below command in your bash.
npm config get proxy
If you are behind a proxy that has username and password authentication, try setting the proxy as
npm config set proxy http://username:encodedpassword#proxyaddress:port
npm config set https-proxy http://username:encodedpassword#proxyaddress:port
Just follow these steps before you run: npm install -g #angular/cli
npm cache clean (You can even ignore if it throws an error)
npm config set strict-ssl false
npm config set proxy http://myusername:mypassword#proxyaddress:port
npm config set https-proxy http://myusername:mypassword#proxyaddress:port
Add the proxy and http_proxy field with your credentials (encoded if it contains any special characters) to your .npmrc file and run npm install again. It should work.
for example:
proxy=http://username:passcode#proxyURL:80/
https_proxy=http://username:passcode#proxyURL:80
Find .npmrc file, open with note pad. then delete the proxy setting there
