Split tables in one excel sheet to multiple other sheets based on continuity of data - excel

I am trying to automatically split multiple tables in one excel sheet to different sheets, based on the continuity of the data. Once there is a gap, like an empty row, it then starts a new sheet for the next table, and it is to be done multiple times as I have a lot of data in one sheet.
This is an image of a snippet of the data, the continuity of the data is not fixed, i.e. sometimes it is 4 rows, sometimes 20 etc. I want it to take the whole row of input.

You can use below code to extract all data to different worksheet
Sub spreaddate()
Dim totalrows As Integer
Dim countworksheet As Integer
Dim lastcopy As Integer
Dim Sht As Worksheet
Set Sht = ActiveSheet
countworksheet = 1
lastcopy = 2
totalrows = Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row
For i = 2 To totalrows + 1
If Cells(i, 1).Value = "" Then
Sheets.Add.Name = countworksheet
Sht.Range("1:1").Copy Sheets(countworksheet).Cells(1, 1)
Sht.Range(lastcopy & ":" & i - 1).Copy Sheets(countworksheet).Cells(2, 1)
lastcopy = i + 1
countworksheet = countworksheet + 1
Sht.Activate
End If
Next i
End Sub

Best way to copy data to a new sheet and reorganize it (VBA)

I'm writing a VBA program which copies and organizes data from one master sheet into numerous other sheets. One of the recipient sheets unifies all the data from the master sheet which holds the same id number into a single row. For this operation, I am looping through the master sheet for each id number, copying each row which holds the current id number into a new sheet purely used for calculations and organizing, and rearranging the data in this sheet into the new row. The resultant row is copied into the recipient sheet. This process of organizing data for every id number takes a long time to process, especially given the very large size of this sheet and the processing time of the other recipient sheets. I'm wondering if there is a better way to organize and copy data without using an intermediate calculation sheet.
The below code is the main sub, which calls another sub OrganizeAndCopyToPal, which organizes the data in the calculation sheet and copies the result into the recipient sheet.
Sub PalletAssemblyLog()
Dim allidNum As Range
Dim curridNum As Range
Dim rowCount As Long
Dim idNum
Dim I As Long
Dim j As Long
Dim machineLoc As String
Dim calc As Worksheet
Dim full As Worksheet
Dim pal As Worksheet
Set calc = Sheet3
Set full = Sheet4
Set pal = Sheet1
For I = 2 To rowCount
For j = 2 To rowCount
If full.Cells(j, 17).Value = idNum Then
If allidNum Is Nothing Then
Set allidNum = full.Cells(j, 17)
Else
Set allidNum = Union(allidNum, full.Cells(j, 17))
End If
End If
Next j
Set curridNum = allidNum.EntireRow
calc.Activate
calc.Cells.Clear
full.Activate
curridNum.Copy calc.Range("A1")
OrganizeAndCopyToPal curridNum
Next I
End Sub
The below sub organizes and copies the data for each id number. The final sub to copy the data isn't related to the matter of simplifying this task so I'm not including it.
Sub OrganizeAndCopyToPal(curridNum)
Dim calc As Worksheet
Dim pal As Worksheet
Set calc = Sheet3
Set pal = Sheet1
calc.Activate
Dim rowCount As Long
rowCount = calc.Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
Dim palRow As Long
palRow = rowCount + 2
Dim partRow As Long
partRow = palRow + 2
Dim currPartCount As Range
Dim assembly As String
Dim id As String
Dim location As String
Dim machType As String
Dim machLoc As String
Dim currPart As String
Dim link As String
Dim tot As Long
tot = 0
With calc
.Cells(1, 1).Copy .Cells(palRow, 2)
assembly = .Cells(1, 1).Value
.Cells(1, 2).Copy .Cells(palRow, 5)
id = .Cells(1, 17).Value
asArray = SplitMultiDelims(id, "|-")
'MsgBox asArray(0) & " " & asArray(1) & " " & asArray(2)
machArray = Split(.Cells(1, 8), "-")
machType = machArray(0)
.Cells(palRow, 3) = machType
machLoc = .Cells(1, 8).Value
.Cells(palRow, 4) = machLoc
.Cells(1, 17).Copy .Cells(palRow, 10)
location = Cells(1, 9)
.Cells(palRow, 1) = location
For I = 1 To rowCount
partArray = Split(.Cells(I, 16).Value, ",")
For j = 0 To UBound(partArray)
partArray2 = Split(partArray(0), "-")
partPrefix = partArray2(0)
If j = 0 Then
currPart = partArray(j)
Else
currPart = partPrefix & "-" & CStr(partArray(j))
End If
tf = 1
For k = 0 To tot
If Cells(partRow + k, 1).Value = currPart Then
tf = 0
Exit For
End If
Next k
If tf = 1 Then
.Cells(partRow + tot, 1).Value = currPart
tot = tot + 1
End If
Next j
Next I
For I = 1 To tot
Cells(palRow, 10 + I).Value = Cells(partRow + I - 1, 1)
Next I
End With
CopyToPal curridNum, palRow
End Sub
Thank you for any tips or help that you can offer.
Before getting into more exotic solutions - the easiest thing you can do is set
Application.Calculation = xlCalculationManual
Before getting stuck into much code.
Then when you need to do an update before copying any data that may change due to formulae calcs, run
Application.Calculate
and eventually at the end reset it to
Application.Calculation = xlCalculationAutomatic
You can disable screen updates too, but the above will be the big (easy) one. After that we're into copying to arrays and working in them then pasting back.

Consolidate column from multiple sheets into single column on another sheet

I need to copy all the text values from Column F on +10 sheets and place them in a single Column on an aggregate sheet. I do not need to perform any computation on the data, just copy the text values derived from formulas. For example:
Sheet1 Col F:
1
2
3
Sheet2 Col F:
4
5
6
I would like "Master" Col A be:
1
2
3
...
6
This code gets me mostly there, but I need the Range to vary. For instance, not every sheet has 3 rows of data, but I want them to be copied directly after each other.
Sub MM1()
Dim ws As Worksheet, lr As Long
lr = Sheets("Master").Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row + 1
For Each ws In Worksheets
If ws.Name <> "Master" Then
ws.Range("F1:G15").Copy
Sheets("Master").Range("A" & lr).PasteSpecial xlPasteValues
lr = Sheets("Master").Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row + 1
End If
Next ws
End Sub
EDIT: Every sheet DOES have the same number of rows with a formula in them, but the Values vary from sheet to sheet. So I need some check that looks for a "" Value as the "last row" then move to the next sheet.
First of all, you can use the same logic to get the last row in the column "F" in each datasheet instead of hard-coding 3 rows usingrange.end(xlUp).Row method.
2nd I don't like the copy-paste method. it is slow and is very bothering you always calculate new insertion point and paste. You can utilize array in VBA to realize this functionality. And work with Array is very straightforward and fast.
Below is the code you can grab and use.
Sub MM1()
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
'Loop through worksheets, put the values in column F into arr array
Dim arr(1 To 10000), cnt As Integer, i As Integer
cnt = 0
For Each ws In Worksheets
If ws.Name <> "Master" Then
For i = 1 To ws.Cells(Rows.Count, "F").End(xlUp).Row
cnt = cnt + 1
arr(cnt) = ws.Cells(i, "F").Value
Next i
End If
Next ws
'Loop through arr array, populate value into Master sheet, column A
For i = 1 To cnt
ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Master").Cells(i, "A") = arr(i)
Next i
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
End Sub
only small changes and its working good :)
1. I changed the Master to Sheet5 => you can use your sheet name.
2. Added a new variable in loop to identify the range for each sheet to be copied.
3. Change the method to paste the copied data to destination.
Sub MM1()
Dim ws As Worksheet, lr As Long
lr = Sheets("Sheet5").Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row + 1
For Each ws In Worksheets
If ws.Name <> "Sheet5" Then
Dim currentRange As Long
currentRange = ws.Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
ws.Range("A1:A" & currentRange).Copy Destination:=Sheets("Sheet5").Range("A" & lr)
lr = Sheets("Sheet5").Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row + 1
End If
Next ws
End Sub
let me know if this works for you or not ?
I tried to keep your code as intact as possible. Here is one way to make it work (with as much preservation of your code as possible). There are still minor "touch ups" you would need to do (eg your "Master" sheet would have a blank row).
Sub MM1()
Dim ws As Worksheet
For Each ws In Worksheets
If ws.Name <> "Master" Then
ws.Range(ws.Range("F1"), ws.Range("F1").End(xlDown)).Copy
Sheets("Master").Range("A65535").End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0).PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues
End If
Next ws
End Sub

VBA VLOOKUP with dynamic range

I am brand-new to VBA.
I have two worksheets in the same workbook. The first worksheet, shStudentInfo, contains all of the information for each of my students, one row per StudentID (B4 in the code). The second worksheet, shSchedData, contains their schedules where there may be 0-14 rows per StudentID, depending on how many courses each student is taking.
I am attempting to use a loop and VLOOKUP with a dynamic range to extract the course name from each row of shSchedData and copy it to the appropriate cell in shStudentInfo, then move down one row. Currently I've hardcoded cell "CO4" as the appropriate cell although I will also need to make that reference move one cell to the right for each pass through the loop.
Here is my inelegant code:
Option Explicit
Dim MyRow As Long
Sub StudentSchedules()
Dim EndRow As Long
Dim MyRng As Range
shSchedData.Activate
'hard code first row of data set
MyRow = 3
'dynamic code last row of data set
EndRow = shSchedData.Range("A1048575").End(xlUp).Row
'create a dynamic range, a single row from shSchedData
Set MyRng = ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(MyRow, 1), Cells(MyRow, 9))
'Loop through entire data set one line at a time
Do While MyRow <= EndRow
shSchedData.Select
MyRng = ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(MyRow,1),Cells(MyRow,9))
shStudentInfo.Select
'Import course name from shSchedData worksheet
Range("CO4").Select
ActiveCell.Clear
ActiveCell.Formula = "=VLOOKUP(B4,'Schedule Data'!& MyRng,6,0)"
'The above line results in a #NAME? error in CO4 of shStudentInfo
'Also tried:
'ActiveCell.Formula = "=VLOOKUP(B4,'Schedule Data'!& MyRng.Address,6,0)"
'increment counter
MyRow = MyRow + 1
Loop
End Sub
The following rewrite will get your code working to the extent that its purpose can be determined.
The VLOOKUP formula does not appear correct and in any event, there might be a better method of retrieving the data. However, I cannot determine your end purpose from your narrative or code. Sample data together with expected results would help.
Option Explicit
'I see no reason to put this here
'dim myRow As Long
Sub StudentSchedules()
Dim myRow, endRow As Long, myRng As Range
'no need to activate, just With ... End With block it
With shSchedData
'assigned a strarting value
myRow = 3
'dynamic code last row of data set
endRow = .Cells(.Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
'Loop through entire data set one line at a time
Do While myRow <= endRow
'create a dynamic range, a single row from shSchedData
Set myRng = .Range(.Cells(myRow, 1), .Cells(myRow, 9))
'Import course name from shSchedData worksheet
shStudentInfo.Range("CO4").Offset(0, myRow - 3).Formula = _
"=VLOOKUP(B4, " & myRng.Address(external:=True) & ", 6, false)"
'increment counter
myRow = myRow + 1
Loop
End With
End Sub
I came up with this, see if it fits you
Dim a As Double
Dim b As Double
Dim ml As Worksheet
Dim arrayrng As Variant
Dim i As Integer
Dim x As String
Dim y As String
Set ml = Worksheets("Master Data")
a = ml.Cells(Rows.Count, 11).End(xlUp).Row
b = ml.Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row
For i = a To b - 1
a = ml.Cells(Rows.Count, 11).End(xlUp).Row
b = ml.Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row
arrayrng = "E" & a + 1
x = "=VLOOKUP(" & arrayrng
y = ",'Data Base'!I:J,2,0)"enter code here
Range("K" & a + 1) = x + y
Next

Transferring Cell Values Between Worksheets | Str Looper

Intended Result
If a row in a table contains any of the listed strings in column L on Sheet1, Then copy the entire row from Sheet1 and paste the row into a duplicate table on Sheet2 (which would be blank at the beginning).
(UNINTERESTED, UNRELATED, UNDECIDED, etc...)
Then delete the entire row that was transferred from sheet 1.
After macro runs, the new transfers should not reset table on Sheet2, rather add rows on the pre-existing lines. This document would be utilized over months.
Variables
Sheet1 is named Pipeline_Input
Sheet2 is named Closed_Sheet
Sheet1 table is named tblData
Sheet2 table is named tblClosed

Okay, there were a plethora of issues with the code you posted, but I decided to help you out here - Notice a few things - There's no copying and pasting here - we're just transferring data.
Secondly, use easy to understand variables. lr and lngLastRow can't be distinguished from one another, so classify them by which worksheet you're getting that value from.
We create an array in one fell swoop here - Just declare a variant and place our values in. ARRAYS (TYPICALLY) START AT ZERO, NOT ONE, so our loop starts at 0 :). Again, this is what's known as best practice...
I swapped out Looper for j. Again, keep. it. simple!
EDIT: I tested this code out on a simulated workbook and it worked fine - should run into no issues for you either.
EDIT2: Also, always use Option Explicit!
Option Explicit
Sub closedsheet()
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Dim Pipeline_Input As Worksheet 'source sheet
Dim Closed_Sheet As Worksheet 'destination sheet
Dim i As Long, j As Long, CSlastrow As Long, PIlastrow As Long

strPhase = Array("LOST", "BAD", "UNINTERESTED", "UNRELATED", "UNDECIDED", "BUDGET")
'Assign worksheets
Set Pipeline_Input = ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Pipeline_Input")
Set Closed_Sheet = ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Closed_Sheet")
PIlastrow = Pipeline_Input.Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
For j = 0 To UBound(strPhase)
For i = PIlastrow To 6 Step -1

Looping through worksheets and trying to count the data in columns

I have a workbook of ten sheets. In sheet 1, I want to list out sheet names (sheets 3 thru 10), column heading values in the sheet (columns 8 and beyond only) and for that column the number of cells that have data in it.
My code works for two of these three requirements. On my sheet 1 (named: SheetName Columns) I get the Sheet Names in column A and Column Heading in column B, however not having any luck getting that sheet/columns number of data rows.
On my sheet 1, column A gets duplicated per number of columns after column 7 on that sheet and that is fine.
Sub ListColumnHeadings()
Dim cNbrs As Long, i As Integer, tr As Long, tc As Long, wst As Worksheet
Dim charList(300, 300) As String
Dim ws As Worksheet, OutputRow As Long
Dim myRange As Range
Dim NumRows As Integer
Dim colNbr As Range
Set shSkip1 = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("SheetName Record Cnt")
Set shList = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("SheetName Columns")
OutputRow = 1
On Error Resume Next
For Each ws In Worksheets
If ws.Name <> shList.Name And ws.Name <> shSkip1.Name Then
cNbrs = ws.Range("A1").CurrentRegion.Columns.Count
For i = 8 To cNbrs
shList.Cells(OutputRow, "A").Value = ws.Name
shList.Cells(OutputRow, "B").Value = ws.Cells(1, i)
Set myRange = ws.Columns(i).Select
NumRows = ws.Application.WorksheetFunction.CountA(myRange)
If NumRows > 0 Then
shList.Cells(OutputRow, "C").Value = NumRows
End If
OutputRow = OutputRow + 1
Next i
End If
Next ws
End Sub
It's because of your use of Set myRange... You don't need to .Select it. Just change that line to Set myRange = ws.Columns(i)
If you want to leave .Select, then the next line should be
NumRows = ws.application.worksheetfunction.counta(selection), but it is highly recommended you avoid using .Select, this is just for your info.
