I'm writing a code which chooses "x" client ids then creates a loop that randomly chooses "x" ids from a list, after this the code do a xlookup to get revenue from this clients, and finally sum all the chosen clients revenues, so far so good, but I don´t know how to choose randomly without repeating the previous id of the loop. I don't know if I was clear enough. Follow code below
Private Sub pick()
resultado = 0
For X = 1 To Range("G7").Value
valor_procurado = WorksheetFunction.Choose(WorksheetFunction.RandBetween(1, 10), _
Sheets("lista").Range("a1"), _
Sheets("lista").Range("a2"), _
Sheets("lista").Range("a3"), _
Sheets("lista").Range("a4"), _
Sheets("lista").Range("a5"), _
Sheets("lista").Range("a6"), _
Sheets("lista").Range("a7"), _
Sheets("lista").Range("a8"), _
Sheets("lista").Range("a9"), _
Sheets("lista").Range("a10"))
matriz_procurada = Sheets("lista").Range("a1:a10")
matriz_retorno = Sheets("lista").Range("b1:b10")
valores = WorksheetFunction.XLookup(valor_procurado, matriz_procurada, matriz_retorno, "-", 0)
resultado = resultado + valores
Next
Range("G8") = resultado
End Sub
This should do what you are looking for if I understand correctly.
This creates a dictionary with the key being a simple index and the item the values in column B. It takes a random number between 1 and the upper limit, originally set to the last row. It then reindexes the dictionary removing the value that was selected and lowering the upper limit by 1.
I added in lastrow but you can hardcode that if you'd like.
tested with 10,000 rows, should be fast.
Dim dict As Object
Dim lr As Long
Dim upper As Long
Dim i As Long
Dim j As Long
Dim randomizer As Long
Dim total As Long
Set dict = CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary")
total = 0
With ActiveSheet
lr = .Cells(.Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row 'assign a value to lr if you don't want the last row
upper = lr
For i = 1 To lr
dict.Add i, .Cells(i, 2).Value
Next i
For i = 1 To .Cells(7, 7).Value
randomizer = Int(upper * Rnd + 1)
total = total + dict(randomizer)
Debug.Print randomizer, total
dict.Remove randomizer
For j = (randomizer + 1) To upper
dict.Key(j) = j - 1
Next j
upper = upper - 1
Next i
.Cells(7, 8).Value = total
End With

I am trying to perform the following:
I have an excel file 'A' with 50000 rows.
I am creating another excel 'B' with 150 rows.
The 150 rows are picked from file 'A'.
The row selection criteria is based on values of 5 different columns as this set
First I want to make sure I select the rows with all different combination of these 5 columns
If I run out of combinations then I can pick combination which are repeated as have to reach the 150
What I have achieved till now is selecting 150 random rows from excel A and pasted in excel B
records = 150
With DataWs
SourceLastRow = .Cells(.Rows.count, "B").End(xlUp).Row
.Rows(1).Copy DestinationWs.Cells(DestLastRow, "A")
ar = RandomNumber(2, SourceLastRow, Records)
For r = 2 To UBound(ar)
DestLastRow = DestLastRow + 1
.Rows(ar(r)).Copy DestinationWs.Cells(DestLastRow, "A")
Next r
End With
Function RandomNumber(Bottom As Long, Top As Long, Amount As Long) As Variant
Dim i As Long, r As Long, temp As Long
ReDim iArr(Bottom To Top) As Long
For i = Bottom To Top: iArr(i) = i: Next i
For i = 1 To Amount
r = Int(Rnd() * (Top - Bottom + 1 - (i - 1))) _
+ (Bottom + (i - 1))
temp = iArr(r): iArr(r) = iArr(Bottom + i - 1): _
iArr(Bottom + i - 1) = temp
Next i
ReDim Preserve iArr(Bottom To Bottom + Amount - 1)
RandomNumber = iArr
End Function
This is maybe a bit complex but worked for me:

I am trying to convert the data based on the max repeated values.
I have truck numbers in col A and "Truck types" in column in B col.
For each unique truck number, the truck type should be same.(This is the expected result)
This can be achieved, by counting the maximum no. of truck types for the unique "truck no", and that cell to be updated with the Max. repeated "Truck type".
If there is equal no. of "Truck types" are available, It should be updated with the first available truck type.
Like this, there are thousands of rows to be updated. This can be
better understand by seeing the attached image.
I have attached the image & expected result is in the column C.
I have googled a lot, but I was unable to find the relevant solution.
Please help.
You do not say anything...
Please, test the next code. It works with assumption that the columns are sorted as we can see in the picture. It is very fast, since the result is put in an array and dropped on the sheet at once:
Sub findMaxCountVehType_Array()

Dim i As Long, j As Long, w As Long, count As Long, maxCount As Long, ar As Long, maxStr As String

lastRow = sh.Range("A" & Rows.count).End(xlUp).row
Set rngVeh = sh.Range("A2:C" & lastRow)

Here is a VBA routine that uses:
A class object which has
key:= Vehicle number
item:= dictionary of associated vehicle types
key:= vehicle type
item:= count of the vehicle types
After collecting the information, we merely need to cycle through the dictionary and extract, for any given vehicle ID, the vehicle type that has the largest count.
This routine, since it works entirely with VBA arrays, should run pretty fast, even with large amounts of data.
Also, with this method, no sorting is required.
ASSUMES the data starts in cell A1 (could be changed if necessary)
ASSUMES results are as you show with Desired Result in column C

I am trying to copy the entry forms I select from the master list to a different worksheet. The idea is that it goes down a condensed list of names without details. Looks at what I have selected. Copies the selected entry form and pastes it in a new place to generate a list that only contains the entry forms I need. I can't tell if the loop is working properly because the paste function at the end isn't working.
Sub BidList()
'Sets unique terms used throught this code
Dim wQuick As Worksheet, wMaster As Worksheet
Dim BlankFound As Boolean
Dim x As Long, n As Long, y As Long
Dim firstrow As Long, pasterow As Long, lastrow As Long, PasteCell As String, MyRange As String
'Turns off Screen updating to save memory
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
'Store an initial value for "x" effectively starting the macro at C4 after the +1 in the next step
x = 3
n = 0
y = 0
Set wQuick = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Quick Reference")
Set wMaster = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("MASTER")
BlankFound = False
'Loop until x equals 600
Do While BlankFound = False
x = x + 1
n = n + 1
If Trim(wQuick.Cells(x, "B").Value) = "" Then Exit Do
'If there is a 1 in the Boolean column then ...
If Trim(wQuick.Cells(x, "C").Value) = "1" Then
'Move the y value so that the template is pasted in the appropriate place
y = y + 1
'Copy the appropriate form from wMaster
firstrow = (n * 9) + 18
lastrow = (n * 9) + 27
Let MyRange = "A" & firstrow & ":" & "K" & lastrow
wMaster.Range(MyRange).Copy
'Select the next place for the form to be pasted on wQuick
pasterow = (y * 9) - 5
Let PasteCell = "F" & "," & pasterow
wQuick.Cells(PasteCell).Paste
End If
Loop
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
End Sub
Please avoid copy-paste in Excel, better use a for-loop like the following:
# keep track of MyRange.Row and MyRange.Column
For Each cell in wMaster.Range(MyRange):
wQuick.Cells(<Starting point>).Offset(<take the cell coordinates, based on MyRange.Row and/or MyRange.Column>).Value = cell.Value
Next
Is there a way (vba code or excel trick) to manipulate a 2 columnar list so that I get a table with all potential combinations depending on a unique identifier in the first column?
E.g. I have one column with Company Names and another with Country Locations. What I need is every set if combinations of the countries per company (see screenshot attached).
This vba module should solve your problem.
Just copy the code to a new module, declare the input and output columns and the number of the first row of your list.
Note that the code will stop once it hits a line where the "Unique Identifier" Cell is empty.
Also, it requires that your list is sorted with respect to your "Unique Identifier".
If a Unique Identifier only appears once, it will still be written into the output list, but only once and with the outColNation2 staying empty in that row. If this is not desired and it should be left out entirely, just delete the commented if-statement.
Example Image of output
Also note, that a unique identifier can repeat at most 100 times. I assume none of them appears that often as that would create a ridiculously long output list.

Edit: cleaned up the code a little bit
Something like the following shows how to iterate through 2 ranges of cells
Dim Rng1 as Range, Rng2 as Range
Dim SrcCell as Range, OthrCell as Range
Dim FullList as string
Rng1 = Range("A1:A12")
Rng2 = Range("B1:B12")
FullList = ""
For Each SrcCell in Rng1
For Each OthrCell in Rng2
FullList = IIF(FullList="","",FullList & vbCrLf) & SrcCell.Value & OthrCell.Value
Next OthrCell
Next srcCell
The FullList string now contains all the combinations but you may require something else. Only intended to give you a start
You need to add code yourself to filter out duplicates
You can do the following (see code below). As another commentee mentioned, when there is only one record of company vs country, it will not show in the output.
The solutions is based on creating a dictionary, each entry is a company and the value is a comma separated string of countries. After the dictionary is created, the dictionary is looped, and a list of countries is then iterated over a nested loop. If the index of the outer loop is the same as the inner index of the loop then the loop is skipped i.e. that would be a Country 1 vs Country 1 combination. Otherwise is added to the output list.
Columns A,B is input and columns D,E,F is output.

I have gone crazy with vba projects around the house and helping my wife upping her reports to the next level. I’m having troubles putting down to VBA what I’m thinking. If anyone has felt my pain please shed some light on the actual script that would help me over this hump. Summary might be comparing cell value for certain text using InStr and if doesn't exist the appending characters to the right end. I can append and run thru one cycle of the loop but get confused with trying to write the logic I'm thinking.
Alittle background on the report: One row equals one reservation. Within that row there is a column labeled “Nights”. This column is filtered for any reservation with more than “1” Night. Example: could be 3 nights, 6 nights, and 10 nights doesn’t matter. I have a macro that sorts these reservations and splits the one reservation into multiple rows totaling the number value in the “Nights” column. Basically, copying and inserting the rows next to each other. While this filtered is still applied (SpecialVisibleCells Only). Now I have another column labeled “ResNumber”. With 3, 6, or 10 rows split out the “ResNumber” column is the same number. I’m tasked with walking down this ‘ResNumber” column and appending a “-1” for the first row. A “-2” for the second reservation “-3” for the third and possibly a forth “-4” Until the last row of the copied for that one reservation group. Then the cycle (loop) starts again on the next group or block of rows. Same procedure.
