I have this formula that works great for me
=IFERROR(SUM(J14*K14)*(1-N14)
However, I would like to add an additional portion to this formula that would check another cell for a Y and if it does it will ad 50, if it does not contain a Y then it will do nothing. I came up with this
=IFERROR(SUM(J14*K14)*(1-N14),"")+IF((O14="Y"),50,"")
which works but will produce a #Value error if the cell is blank which is the whole point I need the IFERROR.

I have cells A1-A7 with A1 needing the formula. Cells A2-A7 have dropdown list options of "Y" or "N". What I'm needing is for A1 to remain blank until a "Y/N" option is chosen for cells A2-A7. Once A2-A7 have data (Y or N) I need them to be evaluated so that if there is a "N" in any cell of A2-A7, then A1 will display "N". If no "N" is input in A2-A7, then A1 will display "Y"
The formula I'm currently using in cell A1 is:
=IF(COUNTBLANK(M3:M7)>0,"",(IF(AND(M3="N",M4="N",M5="N",M6="N",M7="N"),"N","Y")))
This formula is keeping the A1 cell blank no matter what is input into A2-A7. Any ideas?
There's several ways to do this, but the one first coming to mind for me is to rewrite the second part of your formula.
Keep this part, to check if you have all of your cells filled out
IF(COUNTBLANK(M3:M7)>0,"",
Then, I'd use the same method for finding out if any of the cells hold the value "N"
IF(COUNTIF(M3:M7,"N")>0;"N";"Y")
This is a personal choice, but I find reading the code is easier if you use versions of the same function like this.
The whole code would then be
IF(COUNTBLANK(M3:M7)>0,"",IF(COUNTIF(M3:M7,"N")>0,"N","Y"))
PS: I saw in the comment someone suggested splitting the original formula up in different cells to figure out where it goes wrong. There's also a built-in function that allows you to calculate a formula step-by-step and see the results. It's called Evaluate Formula and can be found under the Formula section.
In Cell F190 I have the following formula: ='[Account 19617768.xlsx]19617768'!$G$1142 (the cell displays the value in 19617768 $G$1142 - (£1609.50)
I can display this formula in Cell J190 with the formula: =FORMULATEXT(F190)
By manipulating FORMULATEXT(F190) (i.e. Using Left(FORMULATEXT(F190),38)&(Right(FORMULATEXT(F190),4)+2), I end up with Cell J190 displaying formula: ='[Account19617768.xlsx]19617768'!$G$1144.
What I need is for Cell J190 NOT to display the formula, but the actual value in Account19617768.xlsx G1144 (£1859.50), and it's the conversion of the formula into the value I don't seem to be able to find an appropriate function
I don't have a problem if I need to use an additional function in another cell to finish off the conversion?
I know this should be easy, but having just been released from hospital, I seem to be having
trouble working the simplest things out
'$' signs in excel formula keep the preceding data static.
In other words. Remove the $ in G$1065.
Now when you drag the formula down the column the Cell number will increase.
If you keep the $ in front of G the column G will never change no matter where the formula is copied.
Got this formula:
{=IF(A4=MIN((C4=$C$4:$C$46711)*(B4=$B$4:$B$46711)*($A$4:$A$46711)),"First Event","All")}
I'm using the same one for MAX, and it works just fine. But when changing to MIN it fails, and I suppose it's because of value 0 and/or blank cells in my range. I've tried to add "ISNUMBER" after the "IF" but it doesn't do the trick...
How can this formua be modified to return lowest value, not counting 0 and/or blank cells in Column A?
If you have this function, you can use something like the below in place of your MIN function:
=MINIFS(A1:A10,A1:A10,"<>0")
If not, something like:
=MIN(IF(A1:A10<>0,A1:A10,""))
Depending on your version of Excel, you may need to "confirm" this array-formula it by holding down ctrl + shift while hitting enter. If you do this correctly, Excel will place braces {...} around the formula as observed in the formula bar.
Substituting in your formula would look like:
=IF(A4=MIN(IF(((C4=$C$4:$C$46711)*(B4=$B$4:$B$46711)*$A$4:$A$46711)<>0,(C4=$C$4:$C$46711)*(B4=$B$4:$B$46711)*$A$4:$A$46711,"")),"First Event","All")
I test your formula for a smaller range, there can be a smaller issue, which is causing trouble to you.
In your range $A$4:$A$46711 of the formula there can be a number or entry which is "text" formatted
I have done the following three trials:
Trial 1. Try it with blanks
Trial 2. Try it with blanks and zeros too.
Result: In both the cases your formula, is working fine
Trial 3: with Text in column A, It is generating an error
Hence I am concluding to check your A column range for any text formatting
Remember you can also use Aggregate for these since Excel 2010:
=AGGREGATE(15,6,A1:A10/((A1:A10>0)*(B1:B10="a")),1)
I'm new to StackOverflow and to Excel formulas!
I'm trying to replace the word "GIL64000" with the word "GIB64000", I need to do this across many cells A2: H6; A9: G13, etc.
The cells themselves contain information as follows: "GIL64000_XX_X" with "XX" varying between WH, BL,OR,PU, etc and the"_X" ranging from L, M, S, XL, XXL (shirt sizes).
So I have cells with values like: "GIL64000_OR_S" , "GIL64000_BL_XXL" , "GIL64000_MIN_M" , "GIL64000_MIN_L" etc.
I've tried to get the replace function working by doing this: =REPLACE("GIL64000";3;1; "B")
But it only does this within the cell I have the formula in.
I've tried to add A2: H6 to the formula, but it doesn't accept it and returns with #VALUE! error: =REPLACE(A2:H6;3;1;"B")
I tried some other string like "MID" function, but I can't figure out how to use MID with REPLACE: =REPLACE(MID(A2: H6;3;1; "B"))
I tried to follow some guides and I still can't seem to get it working.
In essence, what I Want is the word "GIL64000" with word "GIB64000" across all my cells and to be able to change the formula as I need it in the future for other values not only "GIL64000"
The REPLACE command only takes in one reference of the cell, and not a range.
Only Change which you need to make is =REPLACE(A2;3;1;"B"), and then just copy the formula (i.e. Ctrl + C, and Ctrl + V on the other cells where you want to change this).
Also, this cannot be applied on the cell itself but would be applied on an adjacent cell.
Let me know if this helps.
There is also the substitute() function which will work, have shown 2 variations - both will drag down, but the second allows customizing the characters to replace. You could put $ on the B3 and C3 for an absolute reference.
See:
Note: I did not just look for "B" although you could - it depends what other data is there...
I know you said you want a formula, but in this case, don't sneeze at the idea of using a CTRL+H. This looks like the perfect scenario for one.
In order to do some calculations on averages and differences of values in columns, I've defined a name, based on a range, but it seems to be completely going berserk:
I have a cell (D13), defined as Header_First _Answer, which contains the title of the column, and I have a value (currently being 69), which contains the number of entries, called Total_Count.
I've defined the entries of that column as another name: "All_First_Answered_Dates", defined as =OFFSET(Header_First_Answer;1;0):OFFSET(Header_First_Answer;Total_Count;0) (start by the first entry under Header_First_Answer, take up to 69 entries, and define a range out of this).
In cell G5, I'm using that name in order to do some calculations (calculating averages), but this seems not to work (there is a #Value error).
After second comment from Rory: G5 formula and first formula evaluation result:
Formula:
=AVERAGE(IF(ISBLANK(All_First_Answered_Dates);TODAY();All_First_Answered_Dates) - All_Start_Dates)
First evaluation result:
=AVERAGE(IF(ISBLANK(#Value!);TODAY();All_First_Answered_Dates) - All_Start_Dates)
Hence, my conclusion:
After some checking I've found out that this is due to the name "All_First_Answered_Dates", which seems to be interpreted one time too many (or how do I explain this):
In different cells, I've entered the formula =OFFSET(Header_First_Answer;1;0):OFFSET(Header_First_Answer;Total_Count;0) (which is exactly the meaning of "All_First_Answered_Dates"), and every time, using the Evaluate Formula feature, I see that the last but one result is correct: $D$14:$D$82. However, after that, another evaluation is done, turning this value into 43283 (in case the formula is entered in "J14"), 43300 (in case the formula is entered in "J15"), ..., and in case I enter this formula in a cell with row number lower than 14, I have the error value #Value (which explains the wrong result in cell G5).
If I simply put the formula =$D$14:$D$82 in any of the mentioned cells, then the content of some cells in column D are shown (which are dates, not values like 43283 or 43300).
It appears that declaring a range as =x:y, where x and y are formula results, is not working.
Does anybody know how I can define a range as a formula, which I can then use in order to define in a name?
I can imagine my explanation being quite complicated without an image, hence the attached screenshot. In there:
In cell J13, there is the formula =OFFSET(Header_First_Answer;1;0):OFFSET(Header_First_Answer;Total_Count;0).
In cell J14, there is the same formula.
In cell K14, there is the formula =$D$14:$D$82.
For completion purposes, hereby a screenshot of the name manager, containing both mentioned names (the ones, selected in the name manager):
Edit after first comment:
The idea behind the range is the following:
1. Take the first row under Header_First_Answer, do not take any other column : OFFSET(Header_First_Answer;1;0)
2. Take the Total_Count's row under Header_First_Answer, do not take any other column : OFFSET(Header_First_Answer;Total_Count;0)
3. Define a range, based on those two cells, by putting a semicolon between them.
I was not aware of the height and width features of the Offset() worksheet function. I've implemented them, which makes the formulas much easier.
Unfortunately the problem still persists.
Thanks in advance
Dominique
I've just found the answer of what was going wrong:
The formula was meant to be an array formula. Something went wrong and while trying to debug, I accidently re-formatted the formula into a normal formula (I must have pressed "ENTER" instead of "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "ENTER") at some point.
I have re-applied array formula (using "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "ENTER"), getting a formula like:
{=AVERAGE(IF(ISBLANK(All_First_Answered_Dates);TODAY();All_First_Answered_Dates) - All_Start_Dates)}
(mind the braces {, })
Now everything is working fine.
