Create textViews in the center of linarLayout - android-studio

I have scrollView
<ScrollView
android:id="#+id/scrollView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_gravity="center">
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/linearLayoutScroll"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center"
android:orientation="vertical" />
</ScrollView>
And I want to fill it with array of strings, and I want to have this strings in the center, but for some reason it isn't in the center, but in the left.
for (str in arr) {
val strTextView = TextView(this)
strTextView.text = str
strTextView.textSize = 30f
val params = RelativeLayout.LayoutParams(
RelativeLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,
RelativeLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT
)
params.addRule(RelativeLayout.CENTER_HORIZONTAL)
strTextView.gravity = Gravity.CENTER_HORIZONTAL
linearLayoutScroll.addView(strTextView, params)
}

You can achieve this by changing your linear layout width matchParent like this:
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/linearLayoutScroll"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center"
android:orientation="vertical" />
Happy coding

Checkbox text is not vertically aligned to the centre of the checkbox

I have 5 checkboxes and each checkbox's' text is misaligned vertically from the center of the checkbox. I have tried adding a padding or a marging to the chckbox which has not helped, cause to my knowledge you can't add a padding specifically to the text. Heres an image that might explain my problem a little better!
Checkbox text is misaligned on the first checkbox. The result I want is the 4th checkbox.
EDIT
I create the checkboxes programmatically from an array:
LinearLayout typeLinLayout = (LinearLayout)findViewById(R.id.typeLinLay);
TableRow.LayoutParams checkParams = new TableRow.LayoutParams(LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
checkParams.setMargins(0, 15, 0, 0);
for (int k = 0; k < config.checkBoxTypeFindViewById.length; k++)
{
CheckBox checkBox = new CheckBox(this);
checkBox.setLayoutParams(checkParams);
typeLinLayout.addView(checkBox, checkParams);
checkBox.setId(config.checkBoxTypeFindViewById[k]);
checkBox.setText(config.checkBoxTextType[k]);
checkBox.setOnClickListener(onCheckboxClickedType);
checkBox.setLayoutDirection(View.LAYOUT_DIRECTION_RTL);
checkBox.setGravity(Gravity.LEFT);
checkBox.setTextDirection(View.TEXT_DIRECTION_ANY_RTL);
checkBox.setTextSize(16);
checkBox.setAllCaps(true);
}
Heres the xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"

android:layout_width="match_parent"

How to show HereMaps inside an android Linear Layout

Is there anyway to show HereMaps inside a Linear Layout?
This is my layout file and I want to show map in firstMap (LinearLayout).
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context="com.apploft.tabs.MyTabFragment">
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/confirmed"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/firstMap"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="130dp"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_marginLeft="20dp"
android:layout_marginRight="20dp"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:background="#color/cardview_shadow_start_color"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<!-- Map Fragment embedded with the map object -->
</LinearLayout>
</FrameLayout>
By adding maoview inside LinearLayout and then calling
<com.here.android.mpa.mapping.MapView
android:id="#+id/mapview"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:visibility="visible"/>
in the fragment
MapView mapColView = (MapView) colTabView.findViewById(R.id.mapview);
map = new com.here.android.mpa.mapping.Map();
map.setCenter(new GeoCoordinate(51.509865, -0.118092, 0.0), com.here.android.mpa.mapping.Map.Animation.NONE);
// Set the zoom level to the average between min and max
map.setZoomLevel((map.getMaxZoomLevel() + map.getMinZoomLevel()) / 2);
mapColView.setMap(map);
Also test/check onResume() onPause().
Use a MapView instead of a MapFragment in this case. The documentation is linked here for starter and here for premium.

LinearLayout won't fill parent; instead if fits to the smallest width view in it

I have a view that looks like this:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:paddingTop="0dp"
android:paddingLeft="0dp"
android:paddingRight="0dp"
android:paddingBottom="10dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical">
<RelativeLayout android:id="#+id/header"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:paddingTop="5dp"
android:paddingBottom="10dp"
android:paddingLeft="15dp"
android:paddingRight="15dp">
<ImageView android:id="#+id/title_icon"
android:layout_width="12dp"
android:layout_height="12dp"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"

android:src="#drawable/title_icon" />
<LinearLayout android:id="#+id/title_layout"

android:layout_marginLeft="10dp"

<TextView android:id="#+id/title_text"
android:text="#string/activity_complete"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_vertical"
android:paddingRight="15dp"
android:textSize="12dp"
android:textStyle="bold"/>
</LinearLayout>
<TextView android:id="#+id/status_text"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:layout_centerVertical="true"
android:textSize="8dp" />
</RelativeLayout>
<TextView android:id="#+id/message_text"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal"
android:layout_marginTop="5dp"
android:layout_marginLeft="0dp"
android:layout_marginRight="0dp"
android:layout_marginBottom="5dp"
android:paddingLeft="15dp"
android:textSize="10dp"/>
<ImageView android:id="#+id/main_image"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#color/grey"
android:padding="5dp"/>
</LinearLayout>
My problem is that the main LinearLayout view doesn't match_parent or fill_parent. It seems to want to only contain the smallest item within it. In my case it will result in a width the same as main_image, cutting off the content of everything else. However, if I set main_image to visibility.gone then it will match the width of message_text.
I've tried removing everything except main_image and the main LinearLayout still only fits the image width.
The other thing is that this layout is inflated into another LinearLayout which is set to fill_parent.
Wrapping the ImageView in another LinearLayout fixed the issue.
I just had this problem -- adding a LinearLayout configured to "match_parent" to another LinearLayout, but the inner layout did not fill the outer one properly.
Initially I was doing this to add the layout:
LinearLayout inner = getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.inner, null);
outer.addView(inner, 0);
After a few minutes of exasperation I tried this instead:
LinearLayout inner = getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.inner, outer);
And inner matched the outer parent width and height.

Replace Fragments

I have the following XML for my Activity
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/home_root"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<br.com.digitalpages.shelves.view.TopBar
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="60px" />
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/fragment_container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1" >
<fragment
android:id="#+id/fragment_categories"
android:layout_width="240px"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:name="br.com.digitalpages.shelves.fragment.TreeCategoryFragment" />
<fragment
android:id="#+id/fragment_library"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:name="br.com.digitalpages.shelves.fragment.LibraryFragment" />
</LinearLayout>
<fragment
android:id="#+id/fragment_bottom_bar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:name="br.com.digitalpages.shelves.fragment.BottomBarFragment" />
</LinearLayout>
In a click on the Bottom_Bar I need to replace fragment_categories and fragment_library by another Fragment that span the space of the old fragments.
How can I do that?
I tried:
FragmentTransaction trans = getFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
trans.remove(categoryExplorerFragment);
trans.remove(libraryFragment);
trans.add(R.id.fragment_container, new LibraryFragment());
trans.commit();
But when I click, only the libraryFragment disappears and nothing more happens.
use the replace method instead;
FragmentTransaction trans = getFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
trans.replace(R.id.fragment_container, new LibraryFragment());
trans.commit();

How to prevent Soft Keyboard from resizing background image

I have a typical listview with an edittext and a button at the bottom of the activity.
When I click onto the edittext, the soft keyboard appears, I am able to scroll the items in the listview but it re-sizes my background image.
I have tried android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize" but no difference.
I have tried android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan". The image does not get squashed, the whole layout shifts upwards and I lose the title bar. I can only scroll the list if the list items exceed the layout size.
Basically, I want to maintain the title bar, retain the background image without re-sizing and allow scrolling of list items. Anyone managed to do this? Thanks!
for listview you need to use
android:isScrollContainer="false"
and add this to your activity in manifest.xml
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan"
I have tried so may solutions for solving this problem. android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan" will make your whole screen shift with keyboard. Generally we have a title of the screen on the top. Using this flag it will also go out of the visible area, which make bad user experience. I use android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize" This will resize the whole screen but it will cause the same problem #Maurice state in the question.
So here is my final solution:
In Manifest
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize|stateAlwaysHidden"
In XMl
Dont Set any background here.And keep your view under ScrollView
In Java
You need to set the background to window:
getWindow().setBackgroundDrawableResource(R.drawable.bg_wood) ;
Go to the Androidmanifest.xml and:
activity name="activityname" android:windowSoftInputMode="stateVisible|adjustPan"
There is no way to prevent the soft keyboard from resizing a background image.
Use this scaleType(matrix) and prepare a suitable image.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:id="#+id/RelativeLayoutchat"
>
<LinearLayout
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:gravity ="clip_horizontal"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_centerInParent="true">
<ImageView
android:gravity ="clip_horizontal"
android:id="#+id/chat_bak_img"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:scaleType="matrix">
</ImageView>
</LinearLayout>
<LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<ListView
android:id="#+id/chat"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:transcriptMode="alwaysScroll"
android:divider="#000000"
android:clickable="false"
android:layout_weight="9"
android:cacheColorHint="#00000000"/>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:layout_weight="1"
style="#android:style/ButtonBar"
android:gravity="center"
android:paddingLeft="3dip"
android:paddingTop="3dip"
android:paddingRight="3dip">
<EditText
android:id="#+id/chatMsg"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:maxLines="5"
android:enabled="true"
android:textSize="17sp"
android:maxLength="150"/>
<Button
android:id="#+id/sendMsg"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:text="#string/send_withSpace"
android:layout_weight="4"/>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</RelativeLayout>
Use android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize" and simply wrap your background ImageView in a ScrollView.
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:scrollbars="none"
android:overScrollMode="never">
<ImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>
</ScrollView>

if there is possible to load image dynamically you can resize image with picaaso while load in imageview
Use ImageView with fill_parent and centerCrop attributes in RelativeLayout. Like this;
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
>
<ImageView
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:src="#drawable/yazisma_arka_plan"
android:scaleType="centerCrop"
/>
<ListView
android:id="#+id/messages_view"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"...
I read a lot of answers over StackOverflow and took some from many to make my app works:
No ScrollView at all in my activity_main.xml
In AndroidManifest.xml added this attribute to the
<activity android:name=".MainActivity" ...>
tag:
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize"
In MainActivity.java inside onCreate()
I added getWindow().setBackgroundDrawableResource(R.drawable.app_bg);
It works for me when all the other solutions I've tried didn't.
If you got up to here, I hope it'll work for you too.
Er, let me see ... pictures first!

android:label="#string/str_login"
android:theme="#style/myTheme"
/>
<!--android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize"-->
The style part.
<style name="myTheme" parent="#android:style/Theme.Light.NoTitleBar">
<item name="android:windowTranslucentStatus">true</item>
</style>
This code doesn't work for me:
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize"
But this does work:
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan"
For those who aren't get it:
double ckeck if your xml already has a #drawable setted (this was the error for me, i was setting via android manifest but it was already setted on the root of xml)
after that create a theme style with background:
<style name="AppThemeWBackgroundG" parent="AppTheme">
<item name="android:windowBackground">#drawable/background_com_gradiente</item>
</style>
Then in your activity on AndroidManifest.xml:
<activity
android:name=".TelaLoginFuncionario"
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize|stateAlwaysVisible"
android:theme="#style/AppThemeWBackgroundG"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
/>
and that's it: the activity enter in a screen with the keyboard up, resizing up the items and the background stays at normal size
all you need to do is to set the background gravity to the top
<item android:drawable="#drawable/background_image" android:gravity="top"/>
