How to link to a module with different name in Haddock? - haskell

I have a module defined as foo.bar and I want to reference it from a different part of the project. However for legibility I want it to show up as bar not foo.bar.
Normally I would just use "foo.bar", but Haddock would show foo.bar. Is there a way to customize the name?
Follow up: What if I want to complexly change the name of the link? Sometimes I want to reference module from a middle of the text. I want to write something like:
-- | There are (other examples)[foo.bar] and ..
to get
There are other examples and ..
where the bolded part is a link to foo.bar
However the best I can do right now is:
-- | There are other examples ("foo.bar") and ..
which produces
There are other examples (foo.bar) and ..
Which is not always ideal.

Link two functions without a space between them

I am writing documentation for a library using haddock, and, for reasons that are not really necessary to explain, I need to include a little code block in my documentation that looks like:
z(<>)
Importantly there can be no space between z and (<>). It may be a bit esoteric but
z (<>)
would make my documentation incorrect, even if it is more stylistically correct.
Now I believe that hyperlinks to both z and (<>) would be helpful. Neither has a very informative name, so a link that helps people remember their definitions and purpose is nice.
So my code without the hyperlinks looks like:
#z(<>)#
And to add hyperlinks I just use single quotes:
#'z''(<>)'#
Except that doesn't work, haddock sees 'z'' and thinks that I mean to link z' (a function that does exist in my module), and then just leaves the rest alone. The rendered output looks like
z'(<>)'
Now as an experiment I deleted the definition of z', however the only difference this makes is that the link to z' goes away. The raw text remains the same. The next thing I tried was ditching #s altogether and did
'z''(<>)'
Which also created a hyperlink to z' and left the rest untouched, the same problem as earlier except now nothing is in a code block.
How can I make a code block that links two functions without a space between?
You can separate the two functions into different code blocks. If there is no space between the code blocks, it will appear no different than a single code block. So
#'z'##'(<>)'#
will render as desired.
You can also do it in one code block by moving the 's inside of the parentheses to only surround <>.
#'z'('<>')#
This will render slightly differently with the parentheses not being part of any hyperlink, however this may be desired.
Here is an alternative solution to add to the answer you already provided:
You can mix and match ' and `. These two will also be rendered correctly by haddock:
-- | #`z`'(<>)'#
-- | #'z'`(<>)`#
At the same time I've tried your solution #'z'##'(<>)'# and for some reason it did not render for me properly, but with haddock you never know.
Here are all of the ones that I've tried:

How to store large string literals to be used with the format macro without littering code?

I have a function in my library that takes some variables and returns an HTML page with those variables inserted. What is the best practice not to litter my module with a large HTML literal? I mean that when I read my code it just "doesn't seem right" to have a piece of HTML that I have to scroll through.
I use the format! macro with "{}" in places in the literal where I want insert variables so I guess that keeping the page as a file and loading it wouldn't work. I don't have to use format! macro, but it seems elegant to not process text manually when I have this kind of tool.
Would creating an entire module just to hold this page be a good practice? In my mind a module is something "bigger", but maybe that's the best thing to do?
You can save the HTML in an external file and include it via std::include_str. For example
let html_code = format!(include_str!("src/index.html"), my, values, in, the, template);
A playground application doesn't quite work here due to the compile-time requirement of the file, but locally the following worked:
src/
foo.txt -- "{}"

make menhir find all alternatives?

I would like to change the behavior of menhir's output in follwoing way:
I want it to look up all grammatical alternatives if it finds any, and put them in a list and get me back this ambigouus interpretation. It shall not reduce conflicts, just store them.
In the source code of menhir, it seems to me, that I have to look in "Engine.ml". The resultant syntactically determined token comes in a variant type item "Accepted v" as a state of a checkpoint of the grammatical automaton. This content is found by a function "accept env prod" before, that is part of a bundle of recursive functions, that change the states.
Do you have a tip, how I could change these functions to put all the possible results in the list here and proceed as if nothing happened? Or do you think, that this wont work anyway?

What you are looking for is a GLR parser generator (G is for generalized). Menhir is not such tool, and I doubt you could modify it easily to do what you want.
However, there is another tool that does exactly what you want: dypgen.

Executing functions stored in a string

Lets say that there is a function in my Delphi app:
MsgBox
and there is a string which has MsgBox in it.
I know what most of you are going to say is that its possible, but I think it is possible because I opened the compiled exe(compiled using delphi XE2) using a Resource Editor, and that resource editor was built for Delphi. In that, I could see most of the code I wrote, as I wrote it. So since the variables names, function names etc aren't changed during compile, there should a way to execute the functions from a string, but how? Any help will be appreciated.

What I want to do is to create a simple interpreter/scripting engine. And this is how its supposed to work:
There are two files, scr.txt and arg.txt
scr.txt contains:
msg_show
0
arg.txt contains:
"Message"
And now let me explain what that 0 is:
First, scr.txt's first line is function name
second line tells that at which line its arguments are in the arg.txt, i.e 0 tells that "Message" is the argument for msg_show.

I want to make a simple scripting engine.
In order to execute arbitrary code stored as text, you need a compiler or an interpreter. Either you need to write one yourself, or embed one that already exists. Realistically, the latter option is your best option. There are a number available but in my view it's hard to look past dwscript.
I think I've already solved my problem! The answer is in this question's first answer.

But with that, as for a workaround of the problem mentioned in first comment, I have a very easy solution.
You don't need to pass all the arguments/parameters to it. Just take my example:
You have two files, as mentioned in the question. Now you need to execute the files. It is as simple as that:
read the first line of scr.txt
check if it's a function. If not, skip the line
If yes, read the next line which tells the index where it's arguments are in arg.txt
pass on the index(an integer) to the "Call" function.
Now to the function which has to be executed, it should know how many arguments it needs. i.e 2
Lets say that the function is "Sum(a,b : integer)".It needs 2 arguments
Now let the function read the two arguments from arg.txt.
And its done!

How to get the filename and line number of a particular JetBrains.ReSharper.Psi.IDeclaredElement?

One aspect of this is indicating if a particular piece of code is part of a test. The piece of code is represented as a IDeclaredElement.
Is it possible to get the filename and line number of a piece of code represented by a particular IDeclaredElement?

The "IDeclaredElement" entity is the code symbol (class, method, variable, etc.). It could be loaded from assembly metadata, it could be declared in source code, it could come from source code implicitly.
You can use
var declarations = declaredElement.GetDeclarations()
to get all AST elements which declares it (this could return multiple declarations for partial class, for example)
Then, for any IDeclaration, you can use
var documentRange = declaration.GetDocumentRange()

Once more: IDeclaredElement has no positions in the file. Instead, it's declaration have them.
For every declaration (IDeclaration is a regular AST node) there is range in document which covers it. In my previous example, I used TextRange.StartOffset, though you can use TextRange.EndOffset.
If you need more prcise position in the file, please traverse AST tree, and check the coordinates in the document for specific expression/statement
