In a couple of resource with Android Studio I have seen people typing a widget's name and after closing the parenthesis a list of possible properties was appearing appear above the widet as show in the screenshot. However, I am not getting this displayed. Can someone shine some light on what needs to be set in order see this list?
how it is supposed to look
Many thanks!
Found the solution to this: Just press CTRL and hoover with the mouse pointer over it.

I updated my Android Studio recently to 4.0 and now when I type code incorrectly, and I mouse over the red squiggly line to see what it expects or suggests, the tooltip appears and disappears very quickly. I can't read it. In fact, it's even harder now to get the thing to show up, it's very precise where the mouse pointer is. I've restarted everything including my computer. I've changed the tooltip settings from 700 to 2000 with no change. Anyone else have this issue and know how to fix it?
Thanks all!
I found the answer via this link:
Android Studio , tooltip disappearing so fast
Basically, put a bunch of random letters in your filter for Logcat and it will stop the messages, the tooltip will stay up. When Logcat is running it's interrupting the tooltips now for some reason. I think this must be a bug.
I'd like to be able to see a suggestion that will allow me to see what colour belongs to which colour name/number when using Android studio.
Please note that "Show quick documentation on mouse move" has been activated in my Android studio general settings.
This is what my screen looks like when my mouse is on "blueGrey"
This is how i'd like my screen to look like when my mouse is on "blueGrey"
I sometimes have the same issue. For me, when I open the Quick Documentation with CTRL Q (Command J on Mac), then it shows the color swatches like on your second picture.
I'm learning Android Studio, so I clicked a few buttons to add vertical and horizontal guidelines, but how to roll back ? In the following image you can see how they look, but I can't figure out how to not show the guidelines ?
I figured it out, select it, make sure it turns blue, then hit "Delete" key to get rid of it.
Select the guidelines or just go into the COMPONENT TREE window below the Palettes and delete the guidelines you want.
I am new to android development. The mouse pointer on the design page is as shown in the screenshot. I am not able to edit anything like increasing the height and width of the widget on this page. I might be able to do it in XML but I want it done here.
I want a normal mouse pointer where I can edit the widgets.
I tried looking at some of the blogs but it didn't help.
activity.xml - design
It worked after removing the cache files and restarting the android studio
OK this is really stupid. I have no idea what happened to the debug watch frame in Android Studio. I have 1.5.1 of Studio.
Is there some secret knowledge from intellij to show it.
Here's the icon that #jamesldurham referred to:
Thanks James! I think it would have taken me a long time to find that :/
Ok I with some help there is a button debug menu that looks like a desaturated American flag that when pressed brings it back.
The tool tip will show restore layout.
If you don't want to restore the entire debug layout, the below image is pointing to the "restore watches view" button. It is in the upper right corner of the debug console and looks like a pair of green shaded glasses over a window.
The button to its left restrores the "Threads" view, and to the right restores the "Variables" view.
Unlike previous IDEs the Watch panel is now totally integrated into the Variables panel
And there is no watch the variable option neither in the popup when right clicking on a variable.
The only option is to select the varaible that needs to be watched and drag and drop it onto the Variables panel.
Check that you have the Frames tab selected instead of Development, in the left bottom section.
