org.gradle.tooling.model.UnsupportedMethodException: Unsupported method: AndroidArtifact.getBuildConfigFields() - android-studio

I was building my android project on Android Studio 4.2.1.
but I get this error:
org.gradle.tooling.model.UnsupportedMethodException: Unsupported method:
AndroidArtifact.getBuildConfigFields().
The version of Gradle you connect to does not support that method.
To resolve the problem you can change/upgrade the target version of Gradle you connect to.
Alternatively, you can ignore this exception and read other information from the model.
my Gradle version:
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-6.4.1-bin.zip
my Gradle plugin tools version:
com.android.tools.build:gradle:4.1.0-alpha09
The both Gradle and Gradle plugin are the latest versions. The exception says that I need to update/change the connected Gradle version.
I am impossible to upgrade further version because I am already on the latest version. So, the only thing I can do is changing the grade version, but which one?

I was able to build project successfully by using :
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:4.0.0'
But if you are trying to use jetpack compose you will have to use latest canary version of android studio.

Ionic Capacitor app give me lots of errors

I'm on Windows 10 and I've created a Ionic 5.0.7 app with Capacitor 2.0.0.
I use this command to build app:
ionic build
After, I use this command:
npx cap sync
And, to finish, I use this command to open Android Studio:
npx cap open android
The first problem come during building on Android Studio:
org.gradle.api.reflect.ObjectInstantiationException: Could not create
an instance of type
com.novoda.release.internal.compat.gradle5_3.AndroidSoftwareComponentCompat_Gradle_5_3.
Caused by: org.gradle.api.reflect.ObjectInstantiationException: Could not create

And...
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
org/gradle/api/internal/java/usagecontext/LazyConfigurationUsageContext
Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:

I've other random errors... It's weird...
Update
Check #Carl Pool 's answer
They fixed it in the new capacitor Version, no need to downgrade anymore
Old Answer
To fix this downgrade Gradle and Gradle plugin in Android Studio.
File -> Project Structure -> Project
If you keep the plugin to 4.0.0 it will require a minimum Gradle version of 6 so put it back to a lower version like 3.6.3
Version 6 of Gradle does not support LazyConfigurationUsageContext as mentionened by #NishaBhat, so use 5.6.4 instead.
This issue currently has a ticket on Github:
https://github.com/ionic-team/capacitor/issues/3003
This issue has been resolved in Capacitor version 2.1.2.
https://github.com/ionic-team/capacitor/issues/3003
Please update the Capacitor dependencies in package.json to version 2.1.2 and then in Android Studio click the button to sync the project with Gradle.
"#capacitor/android": "^2.1.2",
"#capacitor/core": "2.1.2",
Switch to using gradle version 5.6.4. That did the trick for me. LazyConfigurationUsageContext doesn't have support in gradle versions 6.0+
I was getting an error
Cause: org/gradle/api/internal/java/usagecontext/LazyConfigurationUsageContext
I solved by downgraded distributionUrl(gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties) to https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-5.4.1-all.zip
it will give an error if above 6+
Same problem.. had many issues:
Errors and how I solved:
Error 1. Gradle sync failed: Server returned HTTP response code: 403 for URL: http://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-5.6.4-all.zip
Solution - Downloaded the zip file and stored in on my local in the \android\gradle\wrapper folder.
Updated the distribution URL to: distributionUrl=./gradle-5.6.4-all.zip
Error 2. java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError & java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
Solution - Downloaded Gradle version 5.6.4 and updated the environment variables.
Error 3. Failed to install the following Android SDK packages as some licences have not been accepted.
build-tools;28.0.3 Android SDK Build-Tools 28.0.3
Updated as per the image below
i have not downgraded the gradle version 6.1.1 But what i did is that:
I removed these lines from build.gradle file
apply plugin: 'com.novoda.bintray-release' &
classpath 'com.novoda:bintray-release:0.9.1'
The Issue just gone like Boom !!
I think this Bintray Dependencies just conflicting behind the scene.

Force Android Studio to use gradle 4.1

I have downloaded a previous version of Android Studio (3.0.1) since I must use the android gradle plugin version 3.0.1 and gradle 4.1.
The code, and the other modules it depends on, were written using Android Studio 3.2, kotlin 1.3.10 and gradle version 4.10.2
When I try to synchronize the project with the older version of Android Studio (3.0.1) or running gradlew assembleDebug it says the minimum gradle version is 4.6 even though the gradle wrapper version is 4.1 and the gradle plugin version is 3.0.1. The kotlin version for all dependencies was set on 1.2.41
This is the error:
Minimum supported Gradle version is 4.6. Current version is 4.1.
Please fix the project's Gradle settings. Fix Gradle wrapper and
re-import project Gradle settings
How can I compile such project using older the older version?
You have to use newer gradle wrapper and plugin in order to compile your project, if you want to use AS 3.2. So there is two options for you - upgrade wrapper and plugin, or downgrade AS, plugin, wrapper and kotlin in all dependencies.

Android Studio can't open project

I've recently get update notification of android studio 2.3, after the update it's not opening any project and throwing error:
[plugin: com.darkklord.gradle.metric.core]
after downgrading and reinstalling i still have this issue, can anyone please help me on this topic ?
Download latest plugin from here: https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/9197-android-gradle-metrics--checkstyle
Install Plugin manually from disk.
Restart Android Studio (The error will still occur)
Remove plugin in IDE.
Restart
You might also uninstall the refrenzed plugins Checkstyle and PMD
You need to change your dependency
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.1.0'
Sometimes you need to change name of project manually(look at AndroidStudioProjects folder) that you opened lastly.
After changing name, android studio will show all projects,
open one of them,
in file menu,
click open button,
then open your desire project (or change its name to its previous name)
change build:gradle plugin to:
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.3.2'
(in app gradle file)
I made sure that my Gradle version was compatible with my android gradle plug in. In my case I was using Gradle 6.0.1 and when I changed my android gradle plug in to version 3.5.3 the problem went away.
Project Structure----->> Project ------>> Android Gradle plug in version 3.5.3.
[Java 14 and later versions are not yet supported.
Compatibility Notes
A Java version between 8 and 13 is required to execute Gradle.
Java 6 and 7 can still be used for compilation and forked test execution. Just like Gradle 5.x, any supported version of Java can be used for compile or test.
This version of Gradle is tested with
-------->>>>>>>>Android Gradle Plugin 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6
Kotlin 1.3.21 through 1.3.50
Other versions may or may not work.]]]]
I hope this helps

Problems with Gradle in Android Studio

I had to reinstall Android Studio and now when I try to build my projects I get this error:
org.gradle.tooling.GradleConnectionException: Could not create an instance of Tooling API implementation using the specified Gradle distribution 'http://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-1.9-all.zip'.: Could not create an instance of Tooling API implementation using the specified Gradle distribution 'http://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-1.9-all.zip'.
I tried editing system variables and Android Studio settings but nothing has seemed to work.
Andrew
This is a problem with the Android plugin v0.7.2 and will be fixed in 0.7.3. In the meantime you can force it back to 0.7.1 following the answer here:
Android Studio fails - unsupport unsupported major minor version 51.0
