htaccess rewrite for routing from a sub directory - .htaccess

I've been using this .htaccess file for enabling the grav Cms for a few sites:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/grav/
RewriteRule ^$ /grav [QSA]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /grav/$1 [L,QSA]
This works flawlessly as long the site is at the document root.
Now, I have a new site that starts in 2020/ and has Grav installed in 2020/grav.
I modified the above .htaccess to be:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/2020/grav/
RewriteRule ^2020$ /2020/grav [QSA]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^2020/(.*)$ /2020/grav/$1 [L,QSA]
This .htaccess file is located in /2020/.
While in the first case the url is left as is and Grav gets the rest of the url as parameters, in the second case (2020/) the url changes to /2020/grav, which is not what I want?
I wanted to check if it was a Grav issue and I've setup a simple test case, with the above .htaccess file and a grav/ directory with only an index.php file in there and I got the same result.
Any hint on how I have to modify the .htaccess file to get 2020/abc to stay as is in the url bar and at the same time have Grav to get the abc argument?

You can have this code in 2020/.htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^$ grav/ [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(?!grave/)(.+)$ grav/$1 [L,NC]
(?!grave/) is negative lookahead condition that will skip match if match already starts with grave/

The original question was about getting it to work with an .htaccess.
#anubhava gave a very good answer for the general case. But it sadly was not enough for Grav.
I got some more help in the Grav forums and at the end of a long journey Ole found out that the question has been asked in their forums a long time ago and a solution was found!
The /2020/.haccess can be simply defined as:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/2020/grav/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /2020/grav/$1
But what one need is to add a couple of configurations in the /2020/grav/user/config/system.yaml file:
custom_base_url: 'http://domain.tld/2020'
session:
path: /2020
You can find a more detailed question and Ole's reply in the Grav forums

htaccess SEF URLS dont work with the word 'drills'

I have a strange problem where my SEF URLs just wont work for the word 'drills' I have just got around the issue by using a different word but Id like to know why this doesn't work.
This is my entire htaccess file:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^page/([0-9])/?$ /index.php?page=$1 [QSA,NC,L]
This works perfectly and redirects domain.com/page/1 to the correct domain.com/index.php?page=1
However, if I change the htaccess file to this:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^drills/([0-9])/?$ /index.php?drill=$1 [QSA,NC,L]
I just get a url not found error.
To find out where it was going wrong I edited the htaccess 1 letter at a time so page became drills and it all worked correctly until I changed the initial letter. So this works:
RewriteRule ^prills/([0-9])/?$ /index.php?drill=$1 [QSA,NC,L]
but this is a URL not found:
RewriteRule ^drills/([0-9])/?$ /index.php?drill=$1 [QSA,NC,L]
Is there something special about the word 'drills' that means I can't use it for SEF URLs?
To fix it I've just used training-drills instead but it's bugging me that I couldn't get it to work with just the word 'drills'

rewriting url with .htacces cause files not to be found

In general, I am trying to understand how .htaccess works. I would highly appreciate it if anyone points me in the right direction. I have been trying to make the following url (with optional parameters) pretty.
mysite/v1.0/foldername
mysite/v1.0/foldername/param1/
mysite/v1.0/foldername/param1/param2/etc
I tried the following:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)/?$ foldername.php [QSA,L]
the problem is that when I get it to pass the parameters it can no longer get the resources. It seems to have changed directory.
.htaccess is in foldername
Also, I would like to know what site i can go to to learn about REQUEST_URI, REQUEST_FILENAME, etc. A site that is not too technical as it's the apache site.
You are incorrectly rewriting the rules correct rule according to your need would be like,
RewriteEngine On
# rule for removing extension
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f
RewriteRule ^([\w-]+)/?$ $1.php [QSA,L]
# below cond means incoming url is nor a file neither a directory
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
# actual rules
RewriteRule ^([\w-]+)/([\w-]+)/?$ $1.php?param1=$1 [L]
RewriteRule ^([\w-]+)/([\w-]+)/([\w-]+)/?$ $1.php?param1=$2&param2=$3 [L]

Rewrite URL with just company name with current htaccess file

First I like to say I feel so privileged being here. I have used the answer given here for many years and it has saved me many many hours. I have searched for the answer to my current question with no luck. I believe the answers didn't work because I am adding it to my current .htaccess file which is required. I have asked in my current software program (phpfox) forum but they said it could not be done. I will leave it to stackoverflow experts to tell me whether it can be done or not. Here is my current .htaccess file
Options -Indexes
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(file)/(.*) PF.Base/$1/$2
RewriteRule ^static/ajax.php index.php
RewriteRule ^themes/default/(.*) PF.Base/theme/default/$1
RewriteRule ^(static|theme|module)/(.*) PF.Base/$1/$2
RewriteRule ^(Apps|themes)/(.*) PF.Site/$1/$2
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]
</IfModule>
Here are three examples of the URL for this business page.
DomainName/directory/detail/302/name-of-business/overview/
DomainName/directory/detail/302/name-of-business/aboutus/
DomainName/directory/detail/302/name-of-business/contactus/
I think you get the picture but just in case here is a different business.
DomainName/directory/detail/303/name-of-business/overview/
Now for this business page the /directory/details never changes. The 302 is the primary id of the record in the database table for this business. In that same record is the name-of-business. So if I type in the browser URL DomainName/directory/detail/302 it will still bring me to main overview page even without "name-of-business/overview" at the end of the URL. So I am assuming the php code throws that at the end of the url from the database depending on what menu you click on this specific business.
My dream hope is getting it down to
DomainName/name-of-business/overview
DomainName/name-of-business/contact etc...
But I would even be happy to get rid of at least directory/detail (I am guessing the id "302" is needed since it is the main identifier...just guessing).
DomainName/302/name-of-business/overview
I have tried many different answers here but I feel I also may be putting it on the wrong line in my current .htaccess file. Thank you in advance for any help and your time.
Try with:
Options -Indexes
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(file)/(.*) PF.Base/$1/$2
RewriteRule ^static/ajax.php index.php
RewriteRule ^themes/default/(.*) PF.Base/theme/default/$1
RewriteRule ^(static|theme|module)/(.*) PF.Base/$1/$2
RewriteRule ^(Apps|themes)/(.*) PF.Site/$1/$2
# Rewrite DomainName/303/... to DomainName/directory/detail/303/...
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(\d+)(/.*|$) index.php?q=directory/detail/$1$2 [L,QSA]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]
</IfModule>
Rewrite DomainName/303/... to DomainName/directory/detail/303/...
but only for external links or once fixed in your pages

How to re-direct blog article URLs?

I am trying to redirect a bunch of old blog article URLs using the .htaccess file:
RedirectMatch ^/index\.php/global/article/(.*)$ http://www.mywebsite.com/blog/article/$1
This doesn't really work, however, because my CMS seems to get confused by the index.php bit and keeps adding ?symphony-page= to all the URLs.
It's probably this part that is responsible:
### FRONTEND REWRITE - Will ignore files and folders
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*\/?)$ index.php?symphony-page=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L]
Can anybody help?
Please try the following (comments included to explain):
RewriteEngine On
# First, redirect the old URIs to the new ones via a 301 redirect.
# This will allow the CMS to take over using the rules that follow.
RewriteRule ^index.php/global/article/(.+)$ /blog/article/$1 [L,R=301]
# Frontend Rewrites - for the CMS
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*\/?)$ index.php?symphony-page=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L]
Try this:
#-- Input URL >> http://www.mywebsite.com/index.php/global/article/abc
### FRONTEND REWRITE - Will ignore files and folders
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*\/?)$ index.php?symphony-page=$1&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/index\.php/global/article/(.*)$
RewriteRule ^.*$ blog/article/%1 [R=301, L]
#--Output URL >> http://www.mywebsite.com/blog/article/abc
I've tested the above with this htaccess.madewithlove and it seems like it will work just fine, hopefully it will work for you too

Rewrite rule to hide folder, doesn't work right without trailing slash

i have a strange apache mod_rewrite problem. I need to hide a sub-directory from the user, but redirect every request to that sub-directory. I found several quite similar issues on stackoverflow, but nothing really fits, so i decided to post a new question.
My .htaccess looks like this:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l
RewriteRule ^(.*)?$ foo/$1 [QSA,L]
The document-root only contains the following folder/files:
/foo/bar/index.html
I would now expect that example.com/bar and example.com/bar/ would just show me the contents of index.html.
Instead example.com/bar/ show me the content as expected but example.com/bar redirects me with a 301 to example.com/bar/foo/ an then shows the contents. I really don't get why there is a 301 redirect in this case.
When i put something this
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^[^.]*/$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^[^.]*\.html$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^[^.]*\.php$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1/ [QSA,L]
on top of that rule it seems to work, but that would require me to list every used file extension...
Is there any other way i can omit the redirect, the folder "bar" should never be seen by an outside user.
Thanks in advance!
1st rewrite rule is redirect from /foo/(.) to ($1) and second - from (.) to $1.
just idea, this has not been tested.
Better late than never...
Got it working with a simple RewriteRule which append a / to every url that doesn't have on.
# only directories
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
# exclude there directories
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/excluded-dirs
# exclude these extensions
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !\.excluded-extension$
# exclude request that already have a /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.*)/$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /$1/ [R=301,L]
