How to send custom http response code back from spring cloud functions? - azure

I was using Spring Cloud Functions with azure...but could not figure out how using Spring cloud function I can send a custom HTTP code back in response.... as we can do in ResponseEntityAs of now I do not see a way of doing that. let's say after validation I want to throw a 400 BAD REQUEST error in the response or add some specific parameter in the response header, how do I do that.

To place this in the context of what you are asking about, a SOAP service is just a server listening on an address for POST requests that have an XML payload. That's it.
So if your SOAP web service address is http://example.com/service_endpoint then you can call the web service by making a POST HTTP request at this address and sending it a SOAP XML message as payload.
Obviously, the XML message in the request must match something that the service expects and you know how to build that XML either by reading documentation or by using the WSDL of the SOAP web service.
So if you know how to make a POST HTTP request to a REST service address and send it a XML payload (although most commonly for REST you use JSON), you already know how to call a SOAP web service.
Now, for convenience, because SOAP is a protocol, the way you call the service and what it expects as XML payload is described by the WSDL, and you can use tools that read the WSDL and create a client API that you can invoke like any other method in your code. The tools handle the details of the HTTP POST request for you, and also the marshalling of any parameters to XML. This is probably what you found confusing.
So let's take an example.
If you have, say, a service that has an operation named savePerson which accepts firstName and lastName as parameters and is described in the WSDL, then your tooling might generate a client that has such a method and accepts a Person object and you can call it like:

or some variation of this. You then get a response that you can read just like any other object. You might get a promise instead, or an event, or whatever way the client chooses for how to work. When you use this code, what happens is that the client performs a HTTP POST request behind the scenes for you and marshals the person object to XML, something like this:

You can obviously send this request yourself with whatever HTTP library you prefer if you don't want to generate a client from the WSDL. But people prefer to use a generated client instead of dealing with these details directly (i.e. making HTTP requests, parsing XML, etc).

Send custom message in express.js error handling middleware

I have a REST API built with express.js and an SPA, which are communicating with each other. I have my error handling middleware as explained here. I get the correct error code on the frontend, but the message is always Request failed with error code ... How can I send custom messages via either res.status(4xx).json({message: 'My custom message to show on the SPA'}) or res.status(4xx).send('My custom message to show on the SPA')? Since I'm not rendering anything from the server, I can't add the message directly in my DOM. I have to send a json or text response.

Setting Error Pages for a specific path

I am using ECS for a webapp, and i setup an Error Pages definitions for codes 404 and 502. My current setup returns a static maintenance.html file (hosted on S3) and returns a code of 200. I have to return 200, otherwise Outlook (which hosts my app) will not render the returned html, and show an ugly error page instead.
The problem I'm having with it, is that a later API call from my clientside app to my server, might also return 404. With the current setup, CloudFront intercepts this reply, and returns the maintenance.html with code 200. So now my app doesn't know anything is wrong, and later fails on parsing the reply.
Is there a way to define the Error Pages to only handle specific requests? For my usage, I'd like them to only handle calls to my /static/index.html files. If some other file/API call is actually missing from the server, I'd like my client to get the 404, so it can handle it properly.
So to answer your question according to the documentation I read there is currently no way to do this from cloudfront Error Pages Config.
However, We had a similar problem, but in our case API calls were returning a 500 Error with a s3 custom error html instead of the actual server error that I expected only for API calls.
What we ended up doing in this case was a handler in the back end for 500 errors that would return a response code that we were not using in the cloudfront Error Pages if the request Url had the pattern of API calls (we used http Error Code 406) and then the handler will reply with the 406 response code and the whole error instead of the 500 with the s3 response html only when failed over the api url pattern. I know this does not solve the problem the way you would have like to, but probably you may find it helpful until cloudfront allows a custom error response based in a Path Pattern.

How to send a http response using koajs

I'm trying to validate a webhook via facebook. So facebook hits my url my-url/facebook/receive within my route in nodejs i'd do res.send(req.query['hub.challenge']); to send an http response.
I'm using KoaJS. From what i understand, Koajs merges the request and response object into ctx but when reading through the docs I can't find anything along the lines of ctx.send or similar to send a http response.
Can anyone give me some direction or links.

To send the body of a response, you can simply do ctx.response.body = 'Hello'. There are many aliases attached to ctx, so you don't necessarily have to reference the response or request yourself. Doing ctx.body = 'Hello' would be the same as the code above.
If you wanted to set headers, you would use the ctx.set() method. For example: ctx.set('Content-Type', 'text/plain').
To access the query parameters, you would use ctx.request.query['some-key'] (or simply the alias ctx.query['some-key']).
All of the different request/response methods are documented pretty well at the Koa website along with a list of aliases attached to ctx. I highly recommend you give it a read.

Request method not recognized after promisification

I built an API using AWS API Gateway and Lambda, now I am writing end to end tests, I am using Promise from bluebird and request, so I promisified request like this:
Promise.promisifyAll(require('request'));
Promise.promisifyAll(request);
Now when I make requests (POST, PUT, GET), using request.methodAsync, the method is not recognized by the API Gateway !
I launched Jasmine with :
NODE_DEBUG=request jasmine
I can see the method = 'POST' or whatever, but the API still not recognize the method of the requests I am making with the promisified request ! any one run into this situation ?
Hi I'm from the Api Gateway team. As long as the request is sent to a valid resource path / HTTP method pair on a deployed API, Api Gateway will accept it. Please note you'll need to put the stage name as the first path part in the URI (see example in the Api Gateway console on the Stages page).
If you're invoking the right API resource, the issue sounds like a client-side bug.
