Trim the first character from a string variable - string

I get a list from a website but it pulls an html tag (same first character as the role I am trying to get) along with the role. For example, I need to get the role of this user, and the role is "DeveloperContributor" but the list returns "CDeveloperContributor". I am curious to know if you can string slice like ${string}[1:]
I've debated 'Split String To Characters' and then iterating through the list and concatenating each letter individually to a ${endString} var (skipping first entry of the list ofc), but that's clumsy and I'm hoping there's a cleaner/simpler solution out there than this...

Assume ${TABLE} is just a list of strings. The output of that above code works, but it's clunky. I am trying to compare it to a list of the list of valid positions, so I get (not running that above code)
Ex: 'DeveloperContributor != CDeveloperContributor'


Get Substring from the String library:
${endString}= Get Substring ${TABLE}[0] 1
Alternatively, plain old python string slice, through Evaluate:
${endString}= Evaluate """${TABLE}[0]"""[1:]

I have converted list to string.
but after conversion I am getting string without single quote around the string
for eg:

output is : aa,bb,cc
expected output: 'aa','bb','cc'

You could use a list comprehension to quote the individual strings in the list:
items = ['aa','bb','cc']
items = ','.join([f"'{i}'" for i in items])
print(items) # 'aa','bb','cc'

One way to accomplish this is by passing the list into a string formatter, which will place the outer quotes around each list element. The list is mapped to the formatter, then joined, as you have shown.
For example:
','.join(map("'{}'".format, items))
Output:
"'aa','bb','cc'"

Check if string is in list with python

I'm new to python, and I'm trying to check if a String is inside a list.
I have these two variables:
new_filename: 'SOLICITUDES2_20201206.DAT' (str type)
and
downloaded_files:
[['SOLICITUDES-20201207.TXT'], ['SOLICITUDES-20201015.TXT'], ['SOLICITUDES2_20201206.DAT']] (list type)
for checking if the string is inside the list, I'm using the following:
if new_filename in downloaded_files:
print(new_filename,'downloaded')
and I never get inside the if.
But if I do the same, but with hard-coded text, it works:
if ['SOLICITUDES2_20201206.DAT'] in downloaded_files_list:
print(new_filename,'downloaded')
What am I doing wrong?

Your downloaded_files is a list of lists. A list can contain anything insider it, numbers, list, dictionaries, strings and etc. If you are trying to find if your string is inside the list, the if statement will only look for identical matches, i.e., strings.
What I suggest you do is get all the strings into a list instead of a list of lists. You can do it using list comprehension:
downloaded_files = [['SOLICITUDES-20201207.TXT'], ['SOLICITUDES-20201015.TXT'], ['SOLICITUDES2_20201206.DAT']]
downloaded_files_list = [file[0] for file in downloaded_files]
Then, your if statement should work:
new_filename = 'SOLICITUDES2_20201206.DAT'
if new_filename in downloaded_files_list:
print(new_filename,'downloaded')

Your code is asking if a string is in a list of lists of a single string each, which is why it doesn't find any.

Find index of a specific character in a string then parse the string

I have strings which looks like this [NAME LASTNAME/NAME.LAST#emailaddress/123456678]. What I want to do is parse strings which have the same format as shown above so I only get NAME LASTNAME. My psuedo idea is find the index of the first instance of /, then strip from index 1 to that index of / we found. I want this as a VBScript.

Your way should work. You can also Split() your string on / and just grab the first element of the resulting array:
Const SOME_STRING = "John Doe/John.Doe#example.com/12345678"
WScript.Echo Split(SOME_STRING, "/")(0)

If your string contains the [, you can still Split(). Just use Mid() to grab the first element starting at character position 2:

Your idea is good here, you should also need to grab index for "[".This will make script robust and flexible here.Below code will always return strings placed between first occurrence of "[" and "/".

Lua, find string.match , take second variable and do a hex and then match it

I get a string from a message /whisper
The string contains password:name:nameInHex
I want to find the first variable in the string and compare it with the password trigger and if the trigger == first variable in the string then continue to nr4 in the list.
I want to find the second variable in the string, name and convert it to hex.
I want to compare name with nameInHex and if it is true, then continue to invite the person to by using a chat command /invite

You're searching from the first occurrence of "name:" until the "department:Directing" with everything in between.
Instead, you need to restrict what can be between the two strings. Here for example I'm saying that the characters that make up the name can only be alphanumeric or a space:
string.match(fixstrdirector,"name:([%w ]+),department:Directing")
Alternatively, given that there's a comma separating the parameters, a better approach would be to search for "name:" followed by any characters other than a comma, followed by "department:Directing":
string.match(fixstrdirector,"name:([^,]+),department:Directing")
Of course that wouldn't work if the name had a comma it in!

Lua patterns provides - modifier for tasks as you have above. As stated on PiL - Section 20.2:
The + modifier matches one or more characters of the original class.
It will always get the longest sequence that matches the pattern.
Like *, the modifier - also matches zero or more occurrences of
characters of the original class. However, instead of matching the
longest sequence, it matches the shortest one.
Next, when you are using . to match, it'll find any and all characters satisfying the pattern. Therefore, you'll get the result from first occurence of name until the ,department:Directing is found. Since you know that it is a JSON data, you can try to match for [^,]; that is, non-comma characters.
So, for your case try:
