I am using Glassfish 5.0.1/4.1.1 for a Webproject (JSP, JSF, Bootsfaces, JPA). There I encountered the problem, that Glassfish is not allways building the Website correctly.
Sometimes it is build normally how it should be (Pic 1) and sometimes there are elements missing (Pic 2). This does even happen when deploying the same WAR-File.
Can anyone help with this problem?

When I place an InputTextArea and a SelectManyMenu (in that order) in a page, I can't select any items in the menu - nothing is highlighted when I click on them.
However, if I change the order on the page (SelectManyMenu before the InputTextArea), then everything works as it's supposed to.
This works:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:h="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/html"
xmlns:f="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/core"
xmlns:p="http://primefaces.org/ui">
<h:head/>
<body>
<h:form>
<p:selectManyMenu id="testSMM">
<f:selectItem itemLabel="Option 1" itemValue="1"/>
<f:selectItem itemLabel="Option 2" itemValue="2"/>
<f:selectItem itemLabel="Option 3" itemValue="3"/>
</p:selectManyMenu>
<br/>
<p:inputTextarea id="testITA"/>
</h:form>
</body>
</html>
This doesn't:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:h="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/html"
xmlns:f="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/core"
xmlns:p="http://primefaces.org/ui">
<h:head/>
<body>
<h:form>
<p:inputTextarea id="testITA"/>
<br/>
<p:selectManyMenu id="testSMM">
<f:selectItem itemLabel="Option 1" itemValue="1"/>
<f:selectItem itemLabel="Option 2" itemValue="2"/>
<f:selectItem itemLabel="Option 3" itemValue="3"/>
</p:selectManyMenu>
</h:form>
</body>
</html>
All I did was put one tag before the other. What am I missing here?
ps: This doesn't happen with an InputText.
EDIT:
The browser console says Uncaught ReferenceError: PrimeFaces is not defined
at components.js.xhtml?ln=primefaces&v=6.0:1, and even though the generated html has the same content (but not in the same order, obviously), the InputTextArea has different attributes when I check the 'elements' tab in the console:
working code:
<textarea id="j_idt4:testITA" name="j_idt4:testITA" cols="20" rows="3"
maxlength="2147483647" class="ui-inputfield ui-inputtextarea ui-widget ui-state-default ui-corner-all ui-inputtextarea-resizable"
role="textbox" aria-disabled="false" aria-readonly="false" aria-multiline="true"
data-autosize-on="true" style="overflow: hidden; overflow-wrap: break-word; height: 63px;"
</textarea>
buggy code:
<textarea id="j_idt4:testITA" name="j_idt4:testITA" cols="20" rows="3"
maxlength="2147483647" class="ui-inputfield ui-inputtextarea ui-widget ui-state-default ui-corner-all ui-inputtextarea-resizable"
</textarea>
There have been some small issues in this regard in PrimeFaces 6.0 related to components not loading the right core javascript. These are fixed in a 6.0.x elite release and 6.1 community release.
I want to ask a question that i have a master template like this
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets"
xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html">
<h:head>
<title>Login</title>
</h:head>
<h:body>
<div id="top">
<ui:insert name="top">
<ui:include src="header.xhtml" id="header"/>
</ui:insert>
</div>
<div>
<div id="content">
<ui:insert name="content"></ui:insert>
</div>
</div>
<div id="bottom" style="position: absolute;top: 675px;width: 100%" align="center">
<ui:insert name="bottom">
<ui:include src="footer.xhtml" id="footer"/>
</ui:insert>
</div>
</h:body>
</html>
On my each page i am using something like this
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets"
xmlns:p="http://primefaces.prime.com.tr/ui"
xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html">
<h:head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/>
<title>City Setup</title>
</h:head>
<h:body>
<ui:composition template="./WEB-INF/templates/layout.xhtml">
<ui:define name="content">
<h:form id="cityReviewform">
......
</h:form>
</ui:define>
</ui:composition>
</h:body>
</html>
Now what is happening that because of the ui;composition my tile attribute is now working on each page, because ui:composition discard every tag outside of it. Now on each page i have a title of Login(i.e of master template). So i want to ask that how can i do this that on each page, its own title shown instead of Login(master tempalte title)?
Thanks
In the template client, everything outside <ui:composition> is ignored. You need to change your template approach to provide an <ui:insert> for the title in the master template, so that it can be defined by an <ui:define> in the template client.
Master template:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en"
xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets"
xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html">
<h:head>
<title><ui:insert name="title">Login</ui:insert></title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
</h:head>
<h:body>
<div id="top">
<ui:insert name="top">
<ui:include id="header" src="header.xhtml"/>
</ui:insert>
</div>
<div>
<div id="content">
<ui:insert name="content" />
</div>
</div>
<div id="bottom">
<ui:insert name="bottom">
<ui:include id="footer" src="footer.xhtml" />
</ui:insert>
</div>
</h:body>
</html>
Template client:
<ui:composition template="/WEB-INF/templates/layout.xhtml"
xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets"
xmlns:p="http://primefaces.prime.com.tr/ui"
xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html">
<ui:define name="title">City Setup</ui:define>
<ui:define name="content">
<h:form id="cityReviewform">
...
</h:form>
</ui:define>
</ui:composition>

How to include another XHTML in XHTML using JSF 2.0 Facelets?
I've created a simple JSF-Page with only one <h:commandLink> from the JSF HTML Library. Unfortunately the link is just shown as text and is therefore not clickable.
Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets"
xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core">
<h:head>
<title><ui:insert name="title">Title</ui:insert></title>
</h:head>
<h:body>
<div id="header"></div>
<h:form id="form">
<div id="content">
<h:commandLink action="courseList">Courses</h:commandLink>
</div>
</h:form>
<div id="footer">
<ui:insert name="footer">
</ui:insert>
</div>
</h:body>
I am just trying to add an simple link to the page "courseList". What can be the problem?
Try with this
<h:commandLink action="courseList" value="Courses"/>
I'm new to JSF and I'm facing this weird issue. I'm sure it's a silly mistake but I just can't seem to figure it out. Basically, when I insert rich:calendar within ui:composition it does not display. My (simplified) template is defined like this
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets">
<h:head>
<title></title>
</h:head>
<h:body>
<ui:insert name="content"/>
<ui:debug/>
</h:body>
</html>
My index page
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets"
xmlns:rich="http://richfaces.org/rich">
<head>
<title></title>
</head>
<body>
<ui:composition template="/indexLayout.xhtml">
<h:outputScript library="javascript" name="common.js" target="head"/>
<ui:define name="content">
<h:form>
<h:panelGrid columns="2">
From
<rich:calendar id="pickup" onchange="#{rich:component('return')}.setValue(#{rich:component('pickup')}.getValue())"
dayDisableFunction="disablementFunction" datePattern="MMM d, yyyy" value="#{reservation.pickUp}" />
To
<rich:calendar id="return" dayDisableFunction="disablementFunction" datePattern="MMM d, yyyy" />
</h:panelGrid>
<h:commandButton value="Redisplay" />
</h:form>
</ui:define>
</ui:composition>
</body>
</html>
If I define the index page without ui:composition it displays just fine. Please help. Thank you.
You should place your <h:outputScript /> inside the <ui:define></ui:define> since when you are using <ui:composition />, every <ui:insert /> inside the template are replaced by respective <ui:define />. Everything outside <ui:define /> is not rendered.
In your case the JavaScript function disablementFunction is not loaded so your rich:calendar doesn't work properly.
Here is how your index page should look like :
<ui:composition template="/indexLayout.xhtml">
<ui:define name="content">
<h:outputScript library="javascript" name="common.js" target="head"/>
<h:form>
<h:panelGrid columns="2">
From
<rich:calendar id="pickup" onchange="#{rich:component('return')}.setValue(#{rich:component('pickup')}.getValue())" dayDisableFunction="disablementFunction" datePattern="MMM d, yyyy" value="#{reservation.pickUp}" />
To
<rich:calendar id="return" dayDisableFunction="disablementFunction" datePattern="MMM d, yyyy" />
</h:panelGrid>
<h:commandButton value="Redisplay" />
</h:form>
</ui:define>
</ui:composition>

JSF 2 templating with Facelets example
i have a weird problem and i can't know the main cause, i have these login page, which uses <f:ajax event=""> to validate username and password:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets">
<h:head></h:head>
<h:body>
<h:form>
<h:panelGrid columns="3">
Name:
<h:inputText id="name" value="#{validateBean.name}"
validator="#{validateBean.validateName}">
<f:ajax event="blur" render="nameError" />
</h:inputText>
<h:message for="name" id="nameError" style="color:red" />
Password:
<h:inputText id="password" value="#{validateBean.password}"
validator="#{validateBean.validatePassword}">
<f:ajax event="blur" render="passwordError" />
</h:inputText>
<h:message for="password" id="passwordError" style="color:red" />
<h:commandButton value="Login" action="# {validateBean.login}" />
</h:panelGrid>
these JSF works properly, but the problem appears when i place the same above components under a <ui:composition template=""> inorder to use these page with a template
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets">
<ui:composition template="/WEB-INF/Templates/BasicTemplate.xhtml">
<ui:define name="content">
<center>
<h:form>
<h:panelGrid columns="3">
Name:
<h:inputText id="name" value="#{validateBean.name}"
validator="#{validateBean.validateName}">
<f:ajax event="blur" render="nameError" />
</h:inputText>
<h:message for="name" id="nameError" style="color:red" />
Password:
<h:inputText id="password" value="#{validateBean.password}"
validator="# {validateBean.validatePassword}">
<f:ajax event="blur" render="passwordError" />
</h:inputText>
<h:message for="password" id="passwordError" style="color:red" />
<h:commandButton value="Login" action="# {validateBean.login}" />
</h:panelGrid>
</h:form>
</center>
</ui:define>
</ui:composition>
</html>
for more clarity, here's the jsf template page:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com/jsf/facelets">
<head>
<title><ui:insert name="title">Default title</ui:insert></title>
</head>
<body>
<div id="header">
<ui:insert name="header">
<ui:include src="header.xhtml"/> // normal page contains plain text
</ui:insert>
</div>
<div id="content">
<ui:insert name="content">
Content area. See comments below this line in the source.
</ui:insert>
</div>
<div id="footer">
<ui:insert name="footer">
<ui:include src="footer.xhtml"/> // normal page contains plain text
</ui:insert>
</div>
</body>
</html>
when i tried the later approach the AJAX action doesn't fire at all, please any one explain to me why that happens??
You used <head> instead of <h:head> in your master template. This way JSF is unable to auto-include the required jsf.js JavaScript file for the ajax works.
Fix it accordingly:
<html ...>
<h:head>
...
</h:head>
<h:body>
...
</h:body>
</html>
