I have a list of approx 10K entries (and growing) I need to be able to reference in an xPages app. I have had lookup limitations using #DbLookup, so have looked at other options. Unfortunately I continue to run into these limitations.
I am currently loading the lookup list into a session scope variable on page load (which has performance impacts), and the reference the scoped variable for the combo box.
I am using the following simple process to load the list for the combo box. This, however, is also running into limitations.

I would like a method to perform a lookup that can handle the larger list (main priority) with performance being number 2. The page is used by a limited number of users with the function being most important.
Take a look at this code snippet "Pure Java version of DbLookup & DbColumn, with cache, sort and unique" and either use it directly or use it as inspiration.
You should consider storing the list in application scope since it seems that the list is the same for all users. This means that you need to change the code in the code snippet to use applicationScope instead of sessionScope.
I doubt your users want or need to pick some value from combo with 10k+ lines.
Rethink your approach, you can use autocomplete feature with dynamic filter/search in live view (no scoped variable needed), as pointed by Mark. Another approach is to divide that values into some groups and split that combo to two or three with cascading choose/lookup function. First one picks one group, second one looks up only options from first group. That way you probably won't hit that #DbLookup limitations.

I'm working on test automation using keyword driven framework. I have to add a keyword add_car. This keyword needs a big number of parameters that should be entered in the excel sheet as parameters for this keyword.
I want to find a solution to manage the big number of parameters(some of them are always required and the others are optional)

Is there any solution to manage this big number of parameters(I have more than 30 parameter in general some are optional and others are always required).
I'd advise walking through your worksheet to get all parameters and store them into a dictionary. Then you would call your functions by calling the dictionary instead of all parameters individually.
The way to manage all of the parameters to add them into dictionary would have to be handled in a separate function and you could then check if the parameters exist/have values inside your functions or even externally. It would actually be kind of a whole new framework just to work with it, but when you're done, you could reuse the functions anywhere you wanted.
At least that was the way implemented in the project I've worked (though I was not the one to implement it).
It is hard to provide a thorough answer about the topic because it is pretty extensive, but for starters, I'd recommend this link about working with dictionaries:

In a very brief way, Dictionary objects are sort of a collection of Key,Item pairs, where you could store your parameters like Parameter1,ParameterValue to use later.
It also allows you to sort your parameters, check for existence, store them in a Case Insensitive way, edit them, delete them and so forth.

Not sure how many parameters do you have.
However, I have 600+ parameters required for 1 test case (I know... It's a huge end to end test that takes loads of parameters).
I have used different tabs in excel sheet to logically separate the test data parameters.
I read the excel as database (using ADODB.connection) and query each tab in excel to get the row that I need. I can write SQL join to query from multiple excel tabs at once.

Possible solution 1: Text File Approach
You will have all the parameters are stored with key,value combination like given below in the text file.
Parameter1=abc
Parameter2=def
Parameter3=ghi
The advantage here is when any of your parameter not needed, just remove from the text file.That being said, Your framework engine should read the keyword "ReadFile" as function and return a collection of string from file.

Possible solution 2:
Define all the parameters with comma separated value.Split and pass it your function call.

I have a view defined on an xpage. I also have several filters (based on the columns) that the user can select and combine to filter the results in the view. I generate a query string based on this that I construct in dominoView.search (doing a complete refresh). What I would like to do is get the results of the search so that I can then update some counts displayed elsewhere on the page. I'm having a hard time figuring out where I can perform this logic, though. I'm trying to use view.getAllEntries() and then iterating over the collection. Sometimes it seems like it works, but other times I seem to be getting the unfiltered view. Someone suggested I explicitly call view.FTSearch inside one of the events (beforePageLoad?) and immediately after do my getAllEntries call, saving the results in viewScope, but I get an "Error while browses Notes view" runtime error when I try to do that. Any pointers? TIA!
EDIT: After studying the xpages lifecycle a bit (which is still a little confusing), I think I can fine-tune my question. This is my first stackoverflow question, so I hope this is okay to do and productive....
As I described, I have a dominoView defined on my xpage. A repeat iterates over the rows of the view, displaying certain fields from the documents. If I define a query in the search property, then the repeat correctly displays the reduced set of documents rather than the complete set. (The query is computed in the search property via SSJS from some variables defined in the viewScope in a combobox's eventHandler.) However, if I try to access the current entries in the view inside of the repeat's rendered section (with SSJS) using myView.getAllEntries (where myView is what's defined as the "value" of the repeat), I am still getting all of the documents, even if a query has been done. It seems like at that point, the view variable has already had its search applied (since the repeat works), so why the differing results? Is there another way to access the view's rows? To complicate this further, this is just a simple experiment that might clarify the problem; as I indicated earlier, I don't actually want to access the view data within the repeat, I want to access it in the rendered or value sections of some comboboxes defined before the repeat in the xpage file.
I hope that makes more sense now....
EDIT #2: I forgot to add that if I manually call FTSearch (or FTSearchSorted) before calling myView.getAllEntries, then I think I can make this work. It just seems unnecessary to have to do that in addition to the view's built-in search.
From what I get you want to iterate over the entries in a view that before has been filtered, i.e. whose resulting entry collection is smaller than the the view itself.
What I don't get (yet) is what you want to do with the result, or what you're axpecting to get from the iteration over your filtered view (you're mentioning some counts to be displayed somewhere else).
Probably a good way is to use the view's .getAllEntriesByKey method which returns a NotesViewEntryCollection object which then can be used for your iteration.
Don't forget to recycle the resulting NotesViewEntry objects; reason for this has been explained several times here at stackoverflow.
I'm trying to create a product filter with deep-linking capability. Essentially, I want the user to be able to filter my product list on multiple categories and have the URL reflect the filtering they've done.
So it would start as:
www.site.com/products/
My first level of category filtering already works. So I can use EE's regular handling of URL segments to get to my first level of filtering. For instance:
www.site.com/products/leatherthongs
Returns a filtered subset showing only a spectacular collection of leather thongs. But now I want the user to be able to filter on another category - color for instance. This is where stuff stops working.
EE's way of handling multiple categories inside templates (with ampersands or pipes) doesn't work in the URL:
www.site.com/products/leatherthongs&red
Nor does any variation that I've tried.
My next move is to create a simple raw PHP method that can capture regular querystring parameters and then inject them into the {entries} tag before rendering. Not very difficult, but quite ugly. I would love to know if there is a way to handle multiple categories in the URL natively.

Have you considered using Low's Seg2Cat add-on? I'm not sure how complex you want to make this but it seems that you could specify something in your channel:entries loop like categories='{segment_2){if segment_3}|{segment_3_category_id}{/if}'
This exact syntax is untested but I have had success in the past with a similar solution.
What is the best practice for populating dropdown lists in case of XPages application:
the list items managed in the administration menu and displayed using #DbColumn/#DbLookup
the list items stored in property files and retrieved using SSJS
For better performance which can be the preferred solution in case of:

A VERY smart way is to have one (or two) beans that hold all the properties you would be eventually looking for. If that are global values an applicationScope is the right place. For user specific ones it is the sessionScope. Your value population will be easy in the XPage: AppSetup.departments (that is EL code, not SSJS!) where AppSetup is the managed bean name and departments translates into .getDepartments();
You can start with a simple lookup inside the bean and later add caching and alternate storage (e.g. a MIMEDoc) as you deem fit. Since your "contract" are the public methods you can optimize internally to your hearts desire.
Here is a SSJS version of the caching lookup, but you want to go for the bean since it allows you to use EL which adds a little extra speed.
One remark: you know that a kitten must die every time a dropdown list has more than 100 entries. That so NOT suitable for UX. For large values use a grid with search capabilities or other UX elements.
I have core data app with an entity OBSERVATION that has as one of its attributes DEALNAME.
I want to reference through Interface Builder or by making custom modifications to an NSArrayController a list of unique sorted dealnames so that I can use them in a pop-up.
I have attempted to use #distinctUnionOfSets (and #distinctUnionOfArrays) but am unable to locate the proper key sequence.
I can sort the ArrayController by providing a sort descriptor, but do not know how to eliminate duplicates.
Are the #distinct... keys the right methodology? It would seem to provide the easiest way to optimize the use of IB.
Is there a predicate form for removing duplicates?
Or do I need to use my custom controller to extract an NSSet of the specific dealnames, put them back in an array and sort it and reference the custom array from IB?
Any help would be appreciated. I am astounded that other have not tried to create a sorted-unique pop-up in tableviews.
You need to take a look at -[NSFetchRequest returnsDistinctResults]. That is the level you need to be handling the uniquing of data.
Although I do not have a definitive answer for you, I think there are two ways you can go about it.
The way you already started. You need to bind the contents array of the PopUp button, not just against the arrayController.arrangedObjects, but continue on the path and somehow filter only objects with distinct "DealName"s. This means - the arrayController presents ALL the entities (and may sort them for you) but the PopUp button will have its contents filter via some sophisticated binding to the array controller.
Make your filtering at the ArrayController level (as suggested in another answer here). Here it depends how you set up the array controller. If It is set up to use an "Entity" (vs. "Class") which means the array controller will fetch CoreData entities directly - you can modify its "Fetch" to only bring a subset of the "OBSERVATION" entities with distinct values of "DEALNAME". I don't know how to control WHICH entities are filtered out in this case. Otherwise, you can setup the arrayController to work with "Class" objects, and then you can fetch the entities yourself (in code) and populate the arrayController programmatically, with just the entities you like.
In the second option, the Popup button should be bound normally to the arrayController's arrangedObjects.
