I have updated Andorid Studio yesterday. Now I am unable to see the tab for changing gradle build variant. Is that option replaced somewhere?
Sometimes it gets hidden under the slider. You can make it visible at clicking on window (see below image, "window" option marked with arrow)
Another option is, you can go to this option via View -> Tool Window -> Build Variants.
Refer image below
No, build Variant is available in 3.4, might be it is hide from your studio, you can see it from
View -> Tool Windows -> Build Variant
No option are not replaced in 3.4 android studio. If you have removed by mistakenly you can always add from View -> Tool Windows -> Build Variant. You can even drag and drop Build Variant from left toolbar to any specific location in android studio.

Everything was fine yesterday. But I opened a new Android Studio project and can't see the top action bar (With various button shortcuts). And I can't find an option to reenable it.
Need help ;_;
Go to View -> Appearance and check those specific toolbars are activated or not
My project is configured with the usual builds: debug and release.
Unfortunately I'm having troubles creating build-specific Res folders: the debug Res folder is created correctly, while the release Res folder is created as a standard folder.
The procedure I followed is:
I selected "Project" in the top left dropdown
Inside App\src I created two folders: debug and release.
On each of these new folders: Right click -> New -> Folder -> Res folder -> (the correct path is shown) -> Finish
This is the result:
The Res folder inside release has the wrong icon.
I tried to use the release Res folder as is, placing the needed files in it:
Unfortunately, files in release\Res don't get recognized:
I tried to find a way to somhow "convert" a standard folder to a Res one, without success.
UPDATE:
As suggested by aiqency I tried ctrl+shift+a -> Mark Directory as -> Resource root.
Folder icon changes to the right one (with orange lines), but in Android view documents are still not shown for (release).
If i close and reopen Android Studio, Res folder icon reverts to standard one (no orange lines).
UPDATE 2:
I tried to update Android Studio to the latest version (3.6.1 build #AI-192.7142.36.36.6241897).
Then I created a new, no-activity project.
Same behaviour...
Any clue?
Thank you!
I filed a bug on Android Studio bug tracker.
They answered me that this is the intended behavior, this is their answer:
Only one variant is active at the same time (generally debug by default), so it's normal you do not see release/res as an active (re)source folder.
The view in android mode will also only show you the resources associated with the current variant so this is expected.
You can use the variant switcher (on the left border at the bottom) to switch between release and debug.
It's called Mark as Directory and you can access it from the action search menu.
It is mentioned Here
When designing layouts in the Designer of Android Studio 3.4 I am missing the "tools" feature.
In older versions, there was a small button that allowed to set a properts in the tools mode (only visible in designer) instead of setting it for the android name space.
So in the XML it would be written
tools:background="#aaa"
instead of
android:background="#aaa"
However, with the new version, this is gone. It only seems to show the wrench symbol when I set this manually in the XML. But the button for adding a tools-property directly seems gone.
Any idea where the button went to?
Check under declared attributes
Press the + sign on the right and you can see a new row has been added below where you can search tools: {see the image below}
Or still, you can use the old school way like the above pic.
I'm here today because I'm having an issue with Android Studio. I don't know if it existed on previous versions (I don't remember this being an issue, so I doubt it was a problem on a previous version), but currently I am using the Android Studio V2.1 Stable release.
My issue is that if I launch Android Studio (I happen to be on Windows, 64-bit Android Studio) and at the Start Screen/Page, I click Configure>Settings>Editor>Code Styles, and change the default parameters on any of the languages (XML, Java, HTML, etc.), the Default profile is copied to a new profile (Default(1)) and the new settings get applied to each profile.
If I Apply these changes and exit Android Studio, and launch back up and follow the same method...the settings have completely gone back to what they were before I changed them, with the exception of the Default(1) copy profile. But from my experience, Android Studio doesn't build new projects based on this Default(1) copy profile, it builds them on the Default profile. Which means all of my adjustments to using indents and not spaces, keeping indents on empty lines, etc. all do not get carried through to the actual project files, leaving me to have to go back into the settings with the project loaded up and change all of these parameters again. That's just asinine. Please tell me I'm missing something here and that there's a simpler way of achieving the ability to keep a code style template that I can use on all of my projects!
Perhaps it would be better to report or consult on this using the Android Studio feedback site. If that's the better option, I'm willing to do that too.
Thanks everyone!
What I do in that case is
Go to Preferences
Code Style
Select scheme you want
Click Settings cog
Click copy to project
Some OKs and then it works.
After selecting the code style that i want, opened the gradle.properties file in root folder of the project and deleted the following line
kotlin.code.style=official
deleting the above line, prevents the code style resetting to default.
Go to Preferences
Code Style
Set Scheme to Default [IDE]
Click restore defaults
The simplest way I found to reset the default settings is as follows:
In Android Studio, click on File.
Settings (Ctrl + Alt + S)
Under Editor in settings
Select Code Style
Next to Scheme: select the three dots to access the scheme options ()
Select Restore Defaults
A Confirmation Dialog Box will be displayed to confirm if you want to revert back to
the default settings.
Whenever I open any solution in VS2012 from local path (which is mapped in TFS), the files are automatically checking out. I want to disable this feature.
I tried to disconnect from TFS and to work on it, But it is closing the solution. Plesase help me out in achieving this. I didn't get this problem before when I was using VS2010
You need to unbind your project(s) from TFS source control.
Select the project or solution from the Solution Explorer
From the main menu select File->Source Control->Advanced->Change Source Control...
Select one or all projects and press the "Unbind" button on the top of the dialog
select ok to the warning popup
You can later bind the projects again, personally I don't do this so I can't say how well it works. I found some more info here
Here are the visual steps:
This brings up the dialog to select projects to bind/unbind.
I had to select one at a time.
Select "Unbind" for each project
Here's what it should look like when unbound.
You can later come back and bind the projects again and TFS will try and reconcile your changes.
Try rather change Checked-in items (Saving, Editing) to 'Prompt for check out'
Tools -> Options -> Source Control -> Enviroment -> Checked-in items
Disable the following option. It should solve your problem.
Tools -> Options -> Source Control -> Enviroment -> Get everything when a solution or project is opened
