So I have this code for adding a new item to the database, like so:
let parking = new Parking({
name: req.body.name,
country: mongoose.Types.ObjectId(req.body.country),
reservationsEmail: req.body.reservationsEmail,
location: mongoose.Types.ObjectId(req.body.location),
commissionPercentage: req.body.commission,
isConcept: true,
});
parking.save()
.then(parking => {
res.send(parking);
}).catch(err => {
res.send(err);
});
This gives me an error that _id is required before saving:
{ MongooseError: document must have an _id before saving
at new MongooseError (/Users/robin/www_node/parkos/node_modules/mongoose/lib/error/mongooseError.js:14:11)
at Timeout._onTimeout (/Users/robin/www_node/parkos/node_modules/mongoose/lib/model.js:259:18)
at ontimeout (timers.js:466:11)
at tryOnTimeout (timers.js:304:5)
at Timer.listOnTimeout (timers.js:267:5)
message: 'document must have an _id before saving',
name: 'MongooseError' }
Why isn't the _id automatically added like it supposed to?
This is the model I use:
const mongoose = require('mongoose');
const ObjectId = mongoose.Schema.ObjectId;
const isEmail = require('validator/lib/isEmail');
const slugify = require('../../lib/utils.js').slugify;
let parkingSchema = new mongoose.Schema({
name: {
type: String,
required: true,
},
slug: {
type: String,
required: true,
default() {
return slugify(this.name);
}
},
country: {
type: ObjectId,
ref: 'Country',
required: true,
},
reservationsEmail: {
type: String,
required: true,
validate: [
isEmail,
'Please enter a valid emailaddress'
],
},
discountPercentage: {
type: String,
required() {
return !this.isConcept;
},
default: 0,
},
location: {
type: ObjectId,
required: true,
ref: 'Location'
},
commissionPercentage: {
type: Number,
required: true,
},
isConcept: {
type: Boolean,
required: true,
default: false,
},
active: {
type: Boolean,
default: true,
},
}, {
timestamps: true,
});
const Parking = mongoose.model('Parking', parkingSchema);
module.exports = Parking;
Values for both country and location in request:
console.log('Location', parking.location, typeof parking.location); // Location 5caa0993ab95691762dc1a33 object
console.log('Country', parking.country, typeof parking.country); // Country 5caa04e6b6969a708080f8dd object
So when I post it via Postman:
{
"name": "Test Parking",
"reservationsEmail": "example#gmail.com",
"country": "5caa04e6b6969a708080f8dd",
"location": "5caa0993ab95691762dc1a33",
"commission": "20"
}
It works like expected... via the Fetch API though...
let formData = new URLSearchParams([...new FormData(form).entries()]);
fetch('/parkings/create-concept', {
method: "POST",
body: formData,
credentials: "include",
}).then(response => {
console.log(response);
}).catch(err => {
console.log(err);
});
In your model.js have you this line ?
module.exports = mongoose.model('Parking', parkingSchema);
=======================
Country and location must be instance of objectId, try to set them with
mongoose.Types.ObjectId(req.body.myfield);

Hello since there is not subcollections in mongodb i have found that you can nest document as an array ! i did that and it worked but what i want is to add a field to that existing array without losing the old ones ! i can do that by fetching the old array and adding the new field to it and returning that array but doing the fetch inside the patch method wouldn't be a good approach ! so is there any other way i can make that happen ?
Modal :
const mongoose = require("mongoose");
const notificationSchema = new mongoose.Schema(
{
notificationType: {
type: String,
required: false,
},
message: { type: String, required: true },
},
{
timestamps: true,
}
);
const userSchema = new mongoose.Schema({

exports.Notification = mongoose.model("Notification", notificationSchema);
router.patch("/:id", async (req, res) => {
try {
console.log("hh");
const user = await User.findByIdAndUpdate(req.params.id, {
notifications: [
{
notificationType: "Order",
message: "New Notification",
},
],
});
if (!user) {
return res.status(404).send("The user cannot be found");
}
res.send(user);
} catch (error) {
return res.status(400).json({ success: false, error });
}
});
I've been trying updateOne, findOneAndUpdate, and update. Nothing has worked. findOne() operation returns the correct documents.
userProfileModel.updateOne(
{ userEmail },
{
$push: {
userFavLocation: payload,
},
},
(err, result) => {
console.log(err);
console.log(result);
}
);
I get this but no change in my document.
{ ok: 0, n: 0, nModified: 0 }
userEmail and payload have the correct value. When I do findOneAndUpdate, it returns correct document but won't push the value.
This is the Schem for the user profile
const mongoose = require('mongoose');
const Schema = mongoose.Schema;
const UserProfileSchema = new Schema(
{
userEmail: {
type: String,
required: true,
unique: true,
},
userProfilePictureUrl: {
type: String,
},
userSignUpDate: {
type: Date,
},
userId: {
type: String,
required: true,
unique: true,
},
userFirstName: {
type: String,
required: true,
},
userLastName: {
type: String,
required: true,
},
userGender: {
type: String,
required: true,
},
userBirthday: {
type: Date,
required: true,
},
userCoordinates: {
type: {
type: String,
default: 'Point',
},
coordinates: {
type: [Number],
},
},
userFavFacilities: {
type: Object,
},
userHometown: {
address: Object,
},
userContact: {
friends: Object,
},
userOrganizations: {
organizations: Object,
},
userMessages: {
type: Object,
},
userAlerts: {
type: Object,
},
userRoles: Object,
userFacilities: Object,
},
{ collection: 'userprofilemodels' }
);
UserProfileSchema.index({ location: '2dsphere' });
module.exports = UserProfile = mongoose.model(
'userprofilemodels',
UserProfileSchema
);
You have to add the userFavLocation field to your schema or mongoose won't perform the update.
const UserProfileSchema = new Schema(
{
userEmail: {
type: String,
required: true,
unique: true,
},
userFavLocation: [PUT_ARRAY_ITEM_TYPE_HERE],
...
}
}
In this I am using nodejs with express and mongoose. My question is how does changing the secondaryUser field affect whether or not the findOne works? If I have it as friends.id it works and it finds the right profile, but I want to tie it to the user field in the profile. If I change it to friends.user.id the findOne fails and it sends the 404 error in the catch.
router.post(
"/:handle",
passport.authenticate("jwt", {
session: false
}),
(req, res) => {
Profile.findOne({ handle: req.params.handle }).then(friends => {
const newFriend = new Friend({
initialAccepted: true,
initialUser: req.user.id,
secondaryUser: friends.id
});
newFriend
.save()
.then(Friend => res.json(Friend))
.catch(err =>
res.status(404).json({
friendnotfound: "No people found with that handle"
})
);
});
}
);
The schema used for friend is
const FriendSchema = new Schema({
initialUser: {
type: Schema.Types.ObjectId,
ref: "profile"
},
secondaryUser: {
type: Schema.Types.ObjectId,
ref: "profile"
},
initialAccepted: {
type: Boolean,
default: false
},
initialSecondary: {
type: Boolean,
default: false
},
date: {
type: Date,
default: Date.now()
}
});
This is the schema for the profile
const ProfileSchema = new Schema({
user: {
type: Schema.Types.ObjectId,
ref: "users"
},
handle: {
type: String,
required: true,
max: 40
},
bio: {
type: String
},
platforms: {
type: [String]
},
website: {
type: String
},
social: {
youtube: {
type: String
},
twitter: {
type: String
},
facebook: {
type: String
},
linkedin: {
type: String
},
twitch: {
type: String
}
},
games: [
{
name: {
type: String
},
platform: {
type: String
},
handle: {
type: String
},
rank: {
type: String
}
}
],
date: {
type: Date,
default: Date.now
}
});
Follow proper naming convention for variables
Profile.findOne({ handle: req.params.handle }).then(profile => { // changed name from friends to profile
const newFriend = new Friend({
initialAccepted: true,
initialUser: req.user.id,
secondaryUser: profile.id // changed name from friends to profile
// profile.user.id (ref to user table not provided in schema)
});
if you give profile.user.id the object will not get created ( checking for id inside profile schema but user id provided)
Friend Schema:
secondaryUser: {
type: Schema.Types.ObjectId,
ref: "profile" // checking for id inside profile schema
},
Well, I´am trying to retrieve Name and Lastname from user who created the document but it´s not working, it still returning Mongo´s Id
This is my areas model
var mongo = require('mongoose'),
validator = require('mongoose-unique-validator'),
Schema = mongo.Schema
var model = new Schema({
NAME: { type: String, required: true, unique: true, max: 50, min: 3 },
STATUS: { type: String, default: 'active' },
ADDED_BY: { type: Schema.Types.ObjectId, ref: 'users' },
ADDED_DATE: { type: Date, default: Date.now }
}, {collection :'areas'})
model.plugin( validator, { message: 'The {PATH} is not valid or duplicated' } )
module.exports = mongo.model('Area', model )
This is the user model
var mongo = require('mongoose'),
validator = require('mongoose-unique-validator'),
Schema = mongo.Schema
var userSchema = new Schema({
PERSONAL_DATA: {
NAME: { type: String, required: [ true, 'The name is necessary' ], max: 50 },
LAST_NAME: { type: String, required: [ true, 'the lastname is necessary' ], max: 100 },
PHOTO: { type: String, max: 100 },
BIRTHDAY: { type: Date },
MARITIAL_STATUS: { type: Schema.Types.ObjectId, ref: 'maritial_statuses' },
GENDER: { type: String, max: 1 },
EMAIL: { type: String, required: true },
},
COMPANY_DATA: {
JOB: { type: Schema.Types.ObjectId, ref: 'jobs' },
AREA: { type: Schema.Types.ObjectId, ref: 'areas' },
ROLE: { type: Schema.Types.ObjectId, ref: 'roles' },
BOSS: { type: Schema.Types.ObjectId, ref: 'users' },
}
}, { collection: 'users' } )
model.plugin( validator, { message: 'The {PATH} is not valid or duplicated' } )
module.exports = mongo.model('User', userSchema )
And this is my areas route
var express = require('express'),
model = require('../../models/catalogs/areas'),
app = express()
app.get('/:from', (req, res) => {
var from = parseInt( req.params.from )
model.find()
.sort('NAME').populate({ path: 'users', select: 'NAME LAST_NAME'})
.limit(10).skip(from)
.exec((error, data) => {
if (error) {
return res.status(500).json({
success: false,
error
})
}
res.status(200).json({
success: true,
data
})
})
})
module.exports = app
The response is
{
"success": true,
"data": [
{
"STATUS": "active",
"_id": "5c547f4adadf433914f72c8c",
"NAME": "Contabilidad y Finanzas",
"ADDED_BY": "5c4f562deec6f4defeea759b",
"ADDED_DATE": "2019-02-01T17:18:02.680Z",
"__v": 0
},
{
"STATUS": "active",
"_id": "5c547f3edadf433914f72c8b",
"NAME": "Tecnologías",
"ADDED_BY": "5c4f562deec6f4defeea759b",
"ADDED_DATE": "2019-02-01T17:17:50.579Z",
"__v": 0
}
]
}
As you seen, ADDED_BY is a field joined to Users and I want to retrieve that information. I don´t know what is wrong with my code.
I have a very simple "social network" app: users can register, write posts, like/unlike them and comment a post.
I have a probleme with my Post Schema :
const mongoose = require("mongoose");
const Schema = mongoose.Schema;
// Create Schema
const PostSchema = new Schema({
user: {
type: Schema.Types.ObjectId,
ref: "user",
},
text: {
type: String,
required: true,
},
name: {
type: String,
},
avatar: {
type: String,
},
likes: [
{
user: {
type: Schema.Types.ObjectId,
ref: "user",
},
},
],
comments: [
{
user: {
type: Schema.Types.ObjectId,
ref: "user",
},
},
{
text: {
type: String,
required: true,
},
},
{
name: {
type: String,
},
},
{
avatar: {
type: String,
},
},
{
date: {
type: Date,
default: Date.now,
},
},
],
date: {
type: Date,
default: Date.now,
},
});
module.exports = Profile = mongoose.model("post", PostSchema);
When I receive my POST request for comments...
// #route POST api/posts/comment/:id
// #desc Add comment to post
// #access Private
router.post(
"/comment/:id",
passport.authenticate("jwt", { session: false }),
(req, res) => {
const { errors, isValid } = validatePostInput(req.body);
// Check Validation
if (!isValid) {
// If any errors, send 400 with errors object
return res.status(400).json(errors);
}
Post.findById(req.params.id)
.then(post => {
const newComment = {
text: req.body.text,
name: req.body.name,
avatar: req.body.avatar,
user: req.user.id,
};
console.log("newComment: ", newComment);
// Add to comments array
post.comments.unshift(newComment);
console.log("post: ", post.comments);
// Save
post.save().then(post => res.json(post));
})
.catch(err => res.status(404).json({ postnotfound: "No post found" }));
},
);
The only fields that are saved in the post.comments array is the User. Not the other fields (text, name, avatar, date).
My console.log("newComment: ", newComment); properly returns the complete object with all its properties but then, 2 lines below, console.log("post: ", post.comments); only returns the comment _id and the user and those are the only fields saved in the DB...
What did I miss here?
There is some Problem in the creation of the schema structure, this is the correct way:
comments: [
{
user: {
type: Schema.Types.ObjectId,
ref: "user",
},
text: {
type: String,
required: true,
},
name: {
type: String,
},
avatar: {
type: String,
},
date: {
type: Date,
default: Date.now,
},
}
]
the valid structure is nothing but like this(showing the changes made above):
comments: [{
user: {},
text: {},
// others...
}]
