Design tab is not visible in Android Studio. How to enable it ?
View - Window tools - viewer is not visible.
Thanks
I recently ran into this problem. Try File > Sync Project with Gradle Files. This can also help with configuration problems
The view that you are looking for is called the "preview" window in android studio.
You have to open a layout view in your project. Navigate to src/main/res/layout/ in your project and select the xml layout file you want to work with.
If the preview window doesn't automatically open up, you can open the view by selecting from the tool bar View>Tool Windows>Preview
There will be a "Design" and "Text" tab at the bottom of the xml layout.

In Android Studio 3.x (and before) when I ran the Layout inspector, the view hierarchy was automatically captured and saved in a *.li file. When I start the Layout Inspector in Android Studio 4.0, the view hierarchy is not saved anywhere.
Can I somehow export the view hierarchy from the new Layout Inspector to a file, so I am able to share it with others? For now I can say that I'm only able to open the *.li files in AS 4.0, but not save it.
I found one solution for the above case. You need to type shift two times and then type legacy layout inspector. The old layout inspector will open and you can save its .li file.
I found it useful because I can do it in the Android Studio 4.0.
I can use new feature from Android Studio 4.0 Layout Inspector as well can save .li file using the legacy layout inspector.
Another option is to disable the Live Layout Inspector feature in the Android Studio Preferences window. It can be found in the Experimental section, as in the screenshot below:
In Android Studio 3.5.3 , the menu Tools->AVD Manager and View->Tools Windows->Logcat is not available when a newly(or existing) flutter project is opened.
I looked at https://github.com/flutter/flutter-intellij/issues/2159 , and
<module type="JAVA_MODULE" version="4">
is in the outer most iml file.
Please suggest how to find/enable it. For now I have to open an Android project to open these two menu items.
LogCat won't appear for a flutter project and does not seem to be available to enable in the current version of Android Studio. If you open an Android project in another window, THAT window will have LogCat which can be connected to the device you are trying to debug.
AVD Manager does not have a menu item in Flutter but is available from an icon in the toolbar. See picture.
It's also worth checking out DevTools, which opens up in the browser, as an additional (not LogCat) debugging resource. The button to this is found in the Run Window when you are running an app.
There two ways to find or unable it
1. Go to the View-> Tool Windows and you can choose whatever you want to put in Tool WindowBar
2. Go to the View-> And Tick or select on Tool Window Bars
After doing that you can see the logs for particular apps, And for AVD manager...
Go to the Tools-> AVD Manager
In my project I have got a lot of drawable content, and when I need to add new images to drawable I can put a same resource because I forget I have it already.
It is not about preview on XML file, this works well.
Any features in Android Studio to preview all my drawable contents without double-click on every resource? It can save lots of time.
I didn't find anything at Preferences, maybe some plugin or did I miss something?
Starting from Android Studio 3.4, you can use Resource Manager, a new tool window for importing, creating, managing, and applying resources to your app's layouts. You can open the tool window by selecting
View > Tool Windows > Resource Manager from the menu bar.
Right click on drawable folder and click 'Show Image Thumbnails'.
I'm using Android Drawable Viewer that can be installed from Plugins in AndroidStudio. After installing and restarting Android Studio, you will find a tab on the right side of the editor where you can find the viewer.
Click on that tab and you'll be asked to select the root folder for drawables. Do it, and after, everything will look like this:
Consider using Android Drawable Preview plugin. It shows content of the images instead of default icons when you expand drawables.
It even renders vector xml drawables!
Like this:
To install it: go to File > Settings > Plugins > search for Android Drawable Preview and click to find in repos. Install it and restart Android Studio.
Cheers!
Note/ when using 'Show Image Thumbnails' (as #Akhil Tawari suggested) in "Android" view as opposed to "Project" view, for image thumbnails of all drawables right click the "res" folder and not the drawables folder/s.
You can right click on the folder and click open in files. This will allow you to open up the project folder in which you can more easily add and delete images and other files.
I'm using Android Studio 1.0.2 and Gimp as external editor for the images.
When I want to modify an image, I select it, click on "Jump to external editor", apply changes, save it, go back to Android Studio and... close/open project to refresh the changes.
Is there a shortcut for this ? I cannot find any "refresh preview".
Even if I recompile, start the app, close/reopen the preview, I cannot see the changes on the preview (only on the execute app).
Well, it's really easy, indeed... didn't notice the button.
In the preview panel, upper right corner (on the right of the + and - buttons), there's a refresh button.
I have installed Visual Studio 2012 and I opened my project from 2010 in the new version. But when I run my web application, it runs in Chrome. In 2010, you can right click on the project and choose "browse with" to change the web borwser.
In 2012, it is not in the right click menu, but in a toolbar:
But I don't have this toolbar and I don't find it. Can someone help me to find it?
What do you mean "I don't have this toolbar?"
Go here View->Toolbars->Standard
You have to have a file of the correct type (aspx, html, cshthml, etc.) selected in the Solution Explorer, in order to see the toolbar.
