I have a spreadsheet and want to conditional format Column G based on if Column D contains the word "Sale".
I have tried the following:
Cell Value = "Sale"
I have also tried the formula:
=D2="Sale"
Any assistance would greatly be appreciated. I am using Excel 2013
Make sure your formula row reference aligns with your range the rule applies to:
If the rule applies to the entire column G, use
=$D1 = "Sale"
If the rule applies to a range starting with G2 for example, use
=$D2 = "Sale"
Well, put this together just to show something:

I'm trying to create a new rule in my Excel sheet where if a cell is equal to 0, then the cell is filled with a specefic color.
When I apply this rule, all the empty cells take on that color as well as the cells with the value 0.
I've been looking for an option in Excel to tell it that null cells != the value 0 but I can't find anything (I know that by default 0 = null).
My rule is "if cell value is" + "equal to" + "=0"
Thanks for helping me :)
Quick edit:
Here's a screenshot of the tool I'm using to create the rule :
Create rule with type 'Use a formula to determine which cells to format', add formula
=(A1=0)*(A1<>"")
(replace A1 with first cell's address of Applies to range), select desired range into Applies to field.
You would need to determine the formatting by a formula (the last item in the dialog of which you posted a picture) and then use this formula (or its French equivalent).
=AND(VALUE(A1)=0,ISBLANK(A1)=FALSE)
You colud first transform all your empty cells in empty string and then apply the format colour if it is equal to zero.
You can transform the empty cells with this formula:
=IF(A1="","",A1)
I have a excel formula which correctly returns true. But when I used the same formula in conditional format, I am not able to get the conditional format. Please help.
=AND(FIND("MyText",INDIRECT(ADDRESS(1,COLUMN()))),INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW()+2,COLUMN()))=1)
If the first cell of the column is "My-text" and the value is 1 (in row +2, same column) the formula correctly returns true. If I used it in a conditional format to paint a fore-ground color it is not working. I also tried search and searchb. But didnt work. The format of the cell (row() +2, column) that might have value 1 is "General"
If you change to R1C1 reference style, you can enter the formula as =AND(R1C="MyText", R[2]C=1)
R1 means row 1, C means same column, and R[2] means 2 rows below the current cell.
In A1 reference style, the formula will depend on the currently active cell, so if for example the active cell is A1, the formula will be =AND(A$1="MyText", A3=1)
Not sure why this wouldn't work. But you can simply replace the AND function with *. Here is what you can try:
=FIND("MyText",INDIRECT(ADDRESS(1,COLUMN())))*INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW()+2,COLUMN()))=1
I changed the AND into following and it worked. But not sure what is the issue with AND in conditional format
=NOT(ISERROR(SEARCH("MyText",INDIRECT(ADDRESS(1,COLUMN())))))
*INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW()+2,COLUMN()))
Added the above answer for reference.
With Excel I would like to copy all cells values if conditions met.
In a specific case, I would like copy all the values from column C to a new column G, but only if the year = 1980 and Cracked password = 1.
Thus, as shown in the example below:
Thanks for the help.
Greetings T.
You can run an if function along column G and then use CTRL + g to delete the blanks
Vinnie's Idea is easier
If you want a formula, put this in G2 and copy down:
=IFERROR(INDEX(C:C,AGGREGATE(15,6,ROW($B$2:$B$12)/(($B$2:$B$12=1980)*($D$2:$D$12=1)),ROW(1:1))),"")
you can use this formula
=IF(AND(A2=1980,C2=1),B2,"")
I have a list of students who are between the ages of 3 and 5. lets say column A has the code, Column D has the childs age & Column F has their age group (3-5) If their age exceeds the age group then the Cell in column A will highlight Red. I am just not sure how to write this code correctly, all of the combinations i have tried come up with an error or just don't do anything.
IF(OFFSET(INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),COLUMN())),0,7)="3-5" & (OFFSET(INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),COLUMN())),0,4)>5 {THEN FILL CELL RED} {ELSE NO FILL}
In the first part of the statement you are checking whether the cell 7 columns across = "3-5". You don't need to use offset for this, you can just reference the cell 7 across directly.
So if you're applying the conditional formatting to A1 that part of the formula would just be =IF(H1="3-5",{then},{else}).
If you just want TRUE or FALSE as the answer you don't need the IF statement, so this shortens to: =H1="3-5",
If you're applying the conditional formatting to a range instead of just an individual cell, say A1:B10, then you write the formula for the cell in the top left of the that range. So for A1:B10 you would still you the same formulae as above.
For the second part of the statement, using the same logic as above, you get: =E1>5
To check both statements together you need to wrap them in the =AND() function, giving you this as the final formula for your conditional formatting:
=AND(H1="3-5",E1>5)
By using the AND function I can achieve the desired result without cell references moving if a cell is relocated.
=AND(OFFSET(INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),COLUMN())),0,7)="3-5yo",OFFSET(INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),COLUMN())),0,4)>5)
I have an excel workbook that I need some help with INDEX and MATCH or any other Formula that can get me my end result.
Here is sheet1:
SIT_ID METER SUSE_CD
10834282 DT0061 B
10834282 AW7931 P
21676286 CQ9635 P
21676286 DP4838 B
21726281 AW7880 P
21726281 DT0032 B
Here is Sheet2:
Site ID B P
10834282
21676286
21726281
Ultimately what I am trying to do is on Sheet2 is put the Meter that = B for the SITEID in the column and then Put the Meter that = P in the Same row.
I have never used Index or Match and I looked it up online but I am confused and hoping someone can help me with the correct formula or point me in the right direction.
Thanks so much!
INDEX first takes a range, then a row number, an optional column number (and an optional area number).
MATCH takes a value to lookup, an array and a mode.
In your problem you can use the following in Sheet2 cell B2:
=INDEX(Sheet1!$B$2:$B$7, MATCH($A2, IF(Sheet1!$C$2:$C$7=B$1,Sheet1!$A$2:$A$7), 0))
This formula is an array formula and will work with Ctrl+Shift+Enter and then you can fill it to the other cells.
I had to use an IF because there're two conditions to check.
EDIT: Use this one if your cell formats are different:
=INDEX(Sheet1!$B$2:$B$7,MATCH($A2*1,IF(Sheet1!$C$2:$C$7=B$1,Sheet1!$A$2:$A$7*1),0))
EDIT2: Adding trimming:
=INDEX(Sheet1!$B$2:$B$7,MATCH($A2*1,IF(TRIM(Sheet1!$C$2:$C$7)=TRIM(B$1),Sheet1!$A$2:$A$7*1),0))
EDIT3: If you're using it on your full data, change the range:
=INDEX(Sheet1!$B:$B,MATCH($A2*1,IF(TRIM(Sheet1!$C:$C)=TRIM(B$1),Sheet1!$A:$A*1),0))
Assuming your Sheet1 looks like this:
And your Sheet2 looks like this:
The formula in Sheet2 cell B2 and copied over and down to cell C4 is:
=INDEX(Sheet1!$B$2:$B$7,MATCH(1,INDEX((Sheet1!$A$2:$A$7=$A2)*(Sheet1!$C$2:$C$7=B$1),),0))
Note that this is a regular formula, so no need for Ctrl+Shift+Enter
A helper column D is added to initial columns.
D2: =$A2 & $C2
Now it's possible to make a simple search of the concatenated SITE_ID and SUSE_CD:
H2: =MATCH($G2&" B";$D$2:$D$8;0)
The result would be a row number (=1 in this case) for the needed string in array $D$2:$D$8.
INDEX shows the value of the cell, found by counting n-th row (defined by MATCH) and m-th column (=2) in array $A2:$A$8 from the upper left cell (A2).
Altogether: =INDEX($A$2:$B$8;MATCH($G2&" B";$D$2:$D$8;0);2)
The easiest way to get around with this is,
to use concatenation operator in the match function.
Don't forget to use Ctrl+Shift+Enter
Use below formula in column B of Sheet 2
{=INDEX(Sheet1!$B:$B,MATCH(Sheet2!$A2&Sheet2!$B$1,Sheet1!$A:$A&Sheet1!$C:$C,0))}
And the below formula in column C of Sheet 2
{=INDEX(Sheet1!$B:$B,MATCH(Sheet2!$A2&Sheet2!$C$1,Sheet1!$A:$A&Sheet1!$C:$C,0))}
And then flash fill the remaining rows.
