Can't set up port forwarding - web

So recently I started making a raspberry pi web server with apache and php, and so far I could change the html file in the default debian site and make my server go online, the only problem is that I don't how to make it public.I set up port forwarding but I'm not sure that which IP should my domain name point to (my local, or my public one) and also I'm not sure i set up port forwarding right, if possible please write down the port forwarding step by step (I'm using a D-Link router). Thanks a lot.

For Port Forwarding open your router:
login >> manual setup >> Advanced Tab >> portforwarding rules >> give your local ip address of the webserver pointing to >> for hhtp(web) open port 80 >> save the settings.
there you go you can access your server from internet.
if you like, upgrade it to https using some ssl/ certificate process, there are so many youtube tutorials which could show this.

Hosting a web site in IIS accessible from any web client?

Trying to host a web site on my local Win 10 Pro machine withing IIS, provided I share the IP to my friends. My host file contains something like:
127.0.0.1 site1.com
127.0.0.2 site2.com
127.0.0.3 site3.com
127.0.0.1:1 site4.com
127.0.0.1:2 site4.com
123.45.5.6 site5.com
123.45.5.6:33 site5.com
They all work as expected except for the imaginary external ip (only for example), and adding the port or not makes not difference. Seems i've tried what makes sense, say my external is '1.2" Creating a host entry like
1.2 # or
1.2:Port # the external IP with port
Also attempted adding an exclusion for he firewall to help ensure the traffic is allowed by doing:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Open Port" dir=in action=allow protocol=TCP localport=81
Kind of lost what might be missing, any suggestions?
Thanks for he help.
First. There is no need to add port after IP address in hosts file. Port can be configured on IIS by setting binding.
Second. If you want to allow any web client can access the site host on local WIN10 pro, you need to make sure WIN10 pro and web client are in the same LAN. Otherwise it is need to buy a public domain and bind to WIN10 pro device.
Using Ping command is a great way to test traffic between devices. It can help you make sure if web client can create connection with WIN10 pro.

Can't access basic Hello World application launched on Amazon EC2 windows server using NodeJS

I tried to look for solutions and most of them talk about adding HTTP, RDP, HTTPS to security group which I have already done. I have a basic hello world nodeJS application running on Amazon Windows Server 2012. I want to access this application using DNS but it's showing ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT in my local laptop browser.
Configuration:
I have RDP, HTTPS, HTTP, SSH, Custom TCP Protocol with 9000 port (nodeJS is running on port 9000) for inbound rules and for outbound default "All traffic" rule is present. I have not done any changes in the Windows Server 2012 configuration. WHen I run localhost:9000 in the windows server 2012 then server returns "Hello World" but when I try that on my local machine with DNS : 9000 then it says ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
Thanks for everyone's support. Special thanks to Viccari. His suggestion (in the comments below the question) worked. I needed to add the port to the firewall. So basically after adding all the protocols to the security group, I had to add the new port on which the NodeJS is working, to the firewall in the server. Finally its working.

How to use the webUI for Heritrix remotely

Hello I have been playing with Heritrix, and would like to include it on a website/allow remote web access to it.
I have a Linux based server where I have a hosted webpage, and I have built a version of Heritrix.
The issue is I am at home now and would like to be able to offer access to the webUI in Heritrix via the hosted webpage.
I looked through the manual and discovered the -b command to bind it to remote hosts however the documentation could be better.
So what I was hoping for was a little explanation/elaboration on how this command works and if it would be possible to bind the webUI to existing webpage
Thanks for your time in advance
(Here is a link to the documentation im working from: https://webarchive.jira.com/wiki/display/Heritrix/HOWTO+Launch+Heritrix )
You should use -b <public ip address> like -b 192.168.1.1
If you don't want to use a public IP, you can use SSH port forwarding to do this. When creating a PuTTY session, under Connection > SSH > Tunnels enter the following:
Source port: 8443 (or the port Heritrix is installed on, if different)
Destination: localhost:8443 (it's good practice to match the port you're forwarding)
Back on the Session window, make sure you save the session. Now whenever you SSH onto your server you can access the Heritrix web UI by hitting https://localhost:8443

Port Forwarding on website

I'm noob in this field, so please help me understand this:
I have my web application launched on port 8080. I thought that if i forward port 8080 and enter from web browser: myexternalipadress:8080/Index.html it should open my website. please tell me why i'm wrong
Ahh, hosting a website from your house is a fun thing indeed. In my experience, here is how I approach trouble shooting.
1.Making sure your server is configured properly.
Launch the server application
If your client and server are the same machine, make sure you can reach the server on localhost
Access the server from a different computer on your LAN, use your servers lan ip. 192.168.?.?:8080
If you can't get to it from another machine on your LAN, you may have firewall issues on the server
2.Making sure your network is configured properly
This is where port forwarding comes into play. Figure out the LAN ip of the server and log into the router.
Tell your router to forward the port (8080 in this case) to the server LAN ip address.
Test it by telling your friend to access your server on (WAN_IP:8080 in web browser)

How do IP addresses work on a VPS? Routing a domain name to Node.JS

This is an absolute newb question. But I'm buying my first VPS for the reason that I want to install and start creating applications in Node.JS.
I can't visualise in my mind how the server works and where all of the applications such as Apache, Node.JS and PHP sit. I'm so used to a GUI.
I want www.mydomain.com to point to node.JS on my server, let's say Node is listening to port 8080. Now I know that HTTP defaults to port 80 of the IP address, so I can't use that. How do I set the domain up to resolve at www.mydomain.com:8080 - I read this wasn't possible...
My brain is melting.
Thanks :)
You just point the domain to your ip address as you normally do. The issue you will have it that HTTP default to port 80, so either you manually add the port at the end of the host to get to the page or you setup Apache to proxy specific urls to 8080, which gets some of your Node stuff appearing to work under 80.
If you aren't using Apache for anything you can also have your Node app bind to port 80. You will probably need to setup authbind or something to give your node app permission to bind to port < 1024.
