I'm trying to use tqdm as following:
from tqdm import tqdm
it tells me: " No module named tqdm "
i installed it with:
pip install tqdm
It has been installed successfully but i still have the same message: " No Module named tqdm ".
I see that you've got this tagged as python 3. Could be your system's default installation of python is version 2.
Try sudo pip3 install tqdm.
Make sure you're running your script in version 3. python3 ./example.py
make sure you are not executing your .py file in a virtual environment.
If you are, all you have to do is activate the virtual environment and install it there.
change directory to where you have installed your virtual environment
cd .../bin
# this activates virtual environment
source activate
then
#install through pip
pip install tqdm

SyntaxError: invalid syntax
pip is run from the command line, not the Python interpreter. It is a program that installs modules, so you can use them from Python. Once you have installed the module, then you can open the Python shell and do import selenium.
The Python shell is not a command line, it is an interactive interpreter. You type Python code into it, not commands.
Use the command line, not the Python shell (DOS, PowerShell in Windows).
C:\Program Files\Python2.7\Scripts> pip install XYZ
If you installed Python into your PATH using the latest installers, you don't need to be in that folder to run pip
Terminal in Mac or Linux
$ pip install XYZ
As #sinoroc suggested correct way of installing a package via pip is using separate process since pip may cause closing a thread or may require a restart of interpreter to load new installed package so this is the right way of using the API: subprocess.check_call([sys.executable, '-m', 'pip', 'install', 'SomeProject']) but since Python allows to access internal API and you know what you're using the API for you may want to use internal API anyway eg. if you're building own GUI package manager with alternative resourcess like https://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/

UPDATE: Since pip version 10.x there is no more get_installed_distributions() or main method under import pip instead use import pip._internal as pip.
UPDATE ca. v.18 get_installed_distributions() has been removed. Instead you may use generator freeze like this:

If you want to use pip inside the Python interpreter, try this:
import pip

If you need to update every installed package, use following:

Curiosity: By using pip.exe you actually use python interpreter and pip module anyway. If you unpack pip.exe or pip3.exe regardless it's python 2.x or 3.x, inside is the SAME single file __main__.py:

I installed python and when I run pip command it used to throw me an error like shown in pic below.
Make Sure pip path is added in environmental variables. For me, the python and pip installation path is::
Python: C:\Users\fhhz\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python38\
pip: C:\Users\fhhz\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python38\Scripts
Both these paths were added to path in environmental variables.
Now Open a new cmd window and type pip, you should be seeing a screen as below.
Now type pip install <<package-name>>. Here I'm installing package spyder so my command line statement will be as pip install spyder and here goes my running screen..

you need to type it in cmd not in the IDLE. becuse IDLE is not an command prompt if you want to install something from IDLE type this

this is calling pip like pip <commands> in terminal. The commands will be seperated by spaces that you are doing there to.

I want to install fenics in Ubuntu 20.
First I made a python environment using:
sudo apt install python3-venv
Then inside the folder I want to make an environment I open a terminal and use:
python3 -m venv myproject
myproject is the name of the environment I made.
I then activate my environment:
source myproject/bin/activate
To install fenics for this particular environment while I activated the environment, I use:
pip install fenics
I verify the installation using pip list which returns:

But I get the error below stating there is not fenics module:

What is the problem? Hopefully, after successful installation of fenics, I can install Spyder and other python packages and will be able to use fenics inside spyder.

I want to install fenics in a python virtual environment.
The issue here is that fenics is just a meta-package and it does not contain any library that you can use in your Python code.
Quoting from the README for the fenics project :
This package contains a single file, setup.py, that allows all of the FEniCS Python components to be installed from PyPI using pip:
pip3 install fenics
Actual use of the library is done via
import ffc
All different components are under this package. For example, fenics-fiat is available as ffc.fiatinterface.

Install pip for Python 2 with:

After doing pip3 install fenics,write python3 -c import ffc to import it. If this works, it has been imported. It is called ffc, not fenics
I am using Linux Mint 19.3 XFCE.
I have installed Numpy through pip3. pip3 was not installed already, and I installed pip3 thorugh apt.
The default version of python3 that came with the OS is 3.6.9. Since I am not supposed to change the default version of Python that comes installed with the OS, I kept that. And I installed a newer version, 3.8.0 with snap.
The command was-
sudo snap install python38
And now, whenever I need to work with the interpreter, I just type python38 into the terminal and get on with it.
I recently installed Numpy with pip3-
pip3 install numpy
and it shows up when I run pip3 freeze
:
It is listed as-
numpy==1.18.1
But when I enter the Python interpreter through typing python38 into my terminal, and type in import numpy, I am shown an error:

However, when I try the same with Python 3.6.9, it works. Numpy is improted, works just fine. (This time I enter Python interpreter by typing python3)
Now, how do I permanently solve this? That is, being able to import Numpy when working in Python 3.8 in terminal.
This may be the reason because your pip is configured for the default version of python in the machine(Python 3.6.9 in your case). You may change your default python version.
Or
You could run pip and install your python package for specific python version like
python_version -m pip install your_package
eg
python38 -m pip install numpy
I am trying to learn pandas and want to load some stocks data. I was following a course which advised me to load pandas.io.data, but this did not work as io.data was depreciated. So I decided to use pandas-datareader instead. But I am struggling to instal it on mac in Anaconda (Jupiter notebook).
First time I run import pandas_datareader as pdweb I got ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pandas_datareader'. Not surprising as I never used this before so I run pip3 install pandas_datareader in Terminal which successfully installed itself. However, Jupiter notebook is still giving me the same error. At this point, I tried running in Terminal conda install -c https://conda.anaconda.org/anaconda pandas-datareader but it did not work as -bash: conda: command not found.
Please help. I am looking for a detailed explanation as I am not too techie.
What I run in Jupiter

Just run
conda install -c anaconda pandas-datareader
as per instructions here.
In my experience, if you're using conda, you should never install with pip unless you're sure conda doesn't have it. Try searching anaconda.org to see which -c source to use.
The problem was with conda command not being set up during the installation of Anaconda. I solved this by removing Anaconda with App Cleaner & Uninstaller Pro (free soft) and reinstalling later version.
After reinstallation of Anaconda command below worked like a charm.
conda install -c anaconda pandas-datareader
If you using Anaconda and still have issues installing panads-datareader using the conda command 'conda install -c anaconda pandas-datareader'. or the installation is successful but the import pandas_datareader.data as web still gives an error.
Locate where your 'site-packages % ' directory and cd to the site-packages % dir and then run the installation command 'conda install -c anaconda pandas-datareader '. It will work.
For the install, try using
pip
instead of
pip3

Ok the following steps resolved the "No module named 'pandas_datareader" issue for me. To be clear, my situation was such that I had already installed pandas_datareader via pip install pandas_datareader but the "No module named 'pandas_datareader" error still kept popping up whenever I ran a .py code that imports pandas_datareader.
If you are in the same situation as I was (on Mac), this may help you.
Step 1: Uninstall the pandas_datareader package first:
via terminal, type pip uninstall pandas_datareader
it will prompt you asking for a y/n answer to proceed with the uninstallation
type 'y'
Step 2: Restart your IDE if you were using one
in my case, I was using MS VSC (Visual Studio Code)
Step 3:: re-install pandas_datareader package
again via terminal, type pip install pandas_datareader
your terminal may show you a bunch of "pre-installed" pandas_datareader package with message "Requirement already satisfied..."
ignore those.
Step 4: Run your python code again
the "No module named 'pandas_datareader" error should be gone this time round.

All the other methods didn't work for me.
In command prompt:
conda install -c delichon pandas_datareader

make sure to update pip.
For me, Import pandas_datareader worked from the command prompt while using python but did not work in jupyter.
From inside jupyter in a cell, I ran pip install pandas_datareader
I got a whole host of "Requirement already satisfied" messages
But at the very end, I was given this very important message. Successfully installed pandas-datareader-0.8.1 Note: you may need to restart the kernel to use updated packages In Jupyter notebook.
There is a kernel menu command sitting between cell and widgets. The restart command is in that drop-down menu option. In my case, this restarting of the kernel was the solution to my " No module named 'pandas_datareader' " all along.
Had the same issue. This resolved it for me:
after activating the env, run:
pip install pip --upgrade
pip install pandas-datareader
pip install jupyter (as i was using a jupyter notebook)
However, if you are running anaconda, use:
conda install -c anaconda pandas-datareader
I had the same problem. I tried pip install pandas_datareader in my Anaconda Prompt and the problem was solved. For some reason, it didn't work in command prompt.
Got this error even though I had pandas_datareader installed. Running on Windows. py -3 -m pip install pandas_datareader in the command prompt didn't work. Same in anaconda prompt didn't work. pip uninstall pandas_datareader followed by pip install pandas_datareader and a reboot finally fixed my problem.
TLDR if running on a Windows machine, uninstall pandas_datareader if you have it (pip uninstall pandas_datareader) and then reinstall with 'pip install pandas_datareader'.
You may consider upgrading your pandas with:
pip3 install --upgrade pandas
I had the same issue installing through my terminal. Since I'm using Anaconda Navigator, I tried the CMD.exe Prompt and inputted "conda install -c conda-forge pandas-datareader".
Jupyter notebook now works like a charm.
I was having this same issue in Jupyter Notebook, where it wasnt recognizing pandas_datareader, even though it said that it was installed successfully in anaconda prompt.
I figured out that my jupyter notebook wasnt opening up in my environment. I activated my environment in Anaconda Prompt and then did conda install nb_conda_kernels. When I opened up Jupyter notebook and checked my env, I was in the correct one, and it recognized my pandas_datareader import. You can check your environment using:

print(sys.prefix)

I was having the same issue. I tried pip install pandas-datareader, pip install pandas_datareader, python3 -m pip install pandas_datareader on termianl, I see message saying I have successfully installed the package but none of them worked. I use Pycharm as my IDE and when I checked File-->Setting-->Progect:File-->Python interpreter, pandas-datareader is not in the package list. I use anaconda as my python Interpreter. So, just added the package into the interpreter and finally worked.

Go to C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\jupyter\kernels\python3 and open up kernel.json. Check the first argument is pointing to a Python 3 environment/the environment you installed pandas_datareader to.
If you are facing this issue in Jupyter Notebook, just restart the kernel within the IDE.
-Make sure u have installed pandas_datareader with "pip install pandas_datareader"
-Click on the tab named 'kernel'
-Click Restart
