The data I was using in EXCEL pivot tables suddenly went beyond the row limit for EXCEL; Went to 1.7 million rows. Now I need to use power Pivot but have the following issue. I have a query (view) in ACCESS that adds a lot of derived fields to transaction data for year, month, day, etc, so the user doesn't have to add those. It's a straight up Select query. I go into Power pivot and chose databases then ACCESS, set the path to the ACCESS database, and the test is successful. When I go to the tables or views I see the query in the list. But after selecting it, when I hit next to load the data I get the following error:
"OLE DB or ODBC error: ODBC--connection to 'LDODBC' failed.; 3151.
An error occurred while processing table '1ACTMasterQuery'.
The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed."
I am using linked tables in the ACCESS app using an ODBC pipe named LDODBC, and none of those show in the list of tables or views. Do I need to set a connection string? There is no good explanation I could find on the web. What part don't I understand.
Thanks
I would strongly recommend NOT to connect to a query. Save the query result into an Access table first. Then connect to the saved table from PowerBI - it will be simple, fast and robust.

In Excel 2021, what exactly is a "data connection", "query" and "domain source name"?
Let's say I have a Workbook "Manahil_Customer_Database.xlsm" in which I have a sheet "sht_Customer_Cities" that has a table "tbl_Customer_Cities". In a new sheet "sht_Report" I want to run two queries using one connection via MS Query. Now when I go through the MS Query route I get one Domain Name Source File "Manahil_Customer_Database.dsn" and one MS Query file "Customer_Countries_Cities.dqy" and one Connection file "Customer_Countries_Cities.odc".
However when I look at the "Queries & Connections" it says 0 Queries and 1 Connection named "Customer_Countries_Cities". I want to be able to establish a single Data Connection via MS Query from the "sht_Report" to the Workbook "Manahil_Customer_Database.xlsm" and than run multiple queries using the same connection.
Power Query replaced MS:Query from Excel 2016 onwards. The objects and panes you are describing relate to Power Query, not MS:Query.
Power Query is far more functional, reliable, flexible and performant than MS:Query.
For example depending on your exact requirement, you might create a base query that gathers all the required data, then refer to that base query in Reference queries that filter the output needed for each destination table.
Here's a starting point for Power Query:

Power Query is a MS tool that assists you on your ETL tasks.
As read in a previous answer, it is based on M language.
To be able to import / modify / connect your data, the command is:
DATA / GET DATA and select your input

If I understand the situation correctly, you are working internally, within a single excel file. Data connections, queries, and domain sources, are all used to associate externally.
Internally I would think you could use a pivot-table and/or a slicer.
If you provide additional details on what specifically you are trying to do, a better answer could be provided.

I am using Power Pivot to do some analysis and then make Pivot tables from the data model. There are more then 1 interconnected tables. The tables have been created using Power Query. The relationships are created using Power Pivot.
After my work is done and the Excel File is closed, the data model gets deleted. I can see that as the file size gets reduced. Also when I open the file and try to modify the pivot tables receive the following message: " the connection for this pivot table has been Deleted". The queries that were created using power query do not refresh either (Shows: Download Failed).
When I open the Power Pivot for Excel window, it does not show any tables in it.
I am using Microsoft Professional Plus 2016. Already Repaired MS Office.
Would really appreciate if any one can help.
Thank you.
Looks like this problem is caused because of Power Pivot Crashes. Found this blog https://exceleratorbi.com.au/does-the-power-pivot-excel-add-in-crash-for-you/, followed the steps and that seems to solve my problem for now. Its interesting that this problem is there since long and Microsoft has not been able to solve it yet.
I have created many power queries and power pivot tables in my Excel file. After some time, I think the data structure may have gotten corrupted, because this is happening:
In Data Model, I have this Community_Membership table that cannot be deleted. It is the only table that has this behavior (all other tables were deleted successfully)
After that, I went to Power Query to delete all existing queries AND CONNECTIONS, so that the list is empty like below.
But this table remains un-deletable there after I have deleted all queries from queries list.
Anybody know how to fix this?
I finally recreated the file as follows:
Make a new Excel file
Copy all of the sheets
Select all of the queries from the old file's query pane, hit copy
Go to the new file's queries pane, hit paste
Go into Query Editor and edit any names with conflicts or remove any redundant queries
The entire process takes about 10 minutes as I only had about 10 queries / sheets.
I suspect this happened because I created a query, added it to the data model then went back to Power Query and edit it (either its name or its content in some mysterious way). After that the link between PQ and PP is broken so that even after the original query is deleted, its clone in PP remains. Strange.
I encountered a similar situation after having renamed a query in Power Query : Power Pivot could see the new table under the new name, but the old table was still there in Power Pivot and could not be deleted.
Finally I came up with this solution :
Make sure there are no remaining relationships or measures in Power Pivot that refer to the table you want to delete.
Create a query in Power Query, having the same name as the table you want to delete. The content of the query does not matter. Make sure that the checkbox "load into the datamodel" is checked. As a result, the synchronization between Power Pivot and Power Query is restored.
Edit the query again and uncheck the checkbox. Now Power Pivot understands that we want to remove that table.
Now you can delete the query in Power Query.
How to export data from excel table into access table which is not the same as excel table, ie some data is same, some is different, I want to auto extract only certain data?
DETAILS
I have over 5000 students and researchers in my Access database and they are unique to employee/student number. I need to maintain training records however I do not get training records sent to me for whatever reason. But HR does and their Excel database is auto-updated with this information.
The Excel HR database and my Access H&S database both use Emp/Student # as identifiers and our training columns are the exact same BUT they are not entirely the same (ie. they have some columns that I don't have and Viceversa).
I spent the holidays updating my database with their training info so that AT THIS MOMENT they are the same. But come the next pay period they will have an auto update of training and I will NOT. Therefore I want to figure out a way to auto-update my DB with theirs... Would love any help you can offer. I know I know they answer may be staring me in the face but I am new to access and I am asking for help. Thanks in advance!

You can link to your Excel spreadsheet from Access or import it into a new table in Access. Then create a new query that links your Excel table to the Access by the identifier field(s). Set the query to be an Update query and then select the fields in the Excel table that you want to update the Access table with. I would suggest that you make a backup of the Access data before actually running the update query.
Not sure if I'm saying the same thing that #jhTuppeny is saying, but LINK the Excel table into your Access database. Call that the "rawdata" table or whatever you want to call it.
Use this "rawdata" table as the basis for a query in access that will either append/update your Access table. In this query, you can also automate the data for fields that the rawdata doesn't have, or fill it in with DUMMY values that you can manually update in your updated table.
I am trying to link the output from an Access Query to an Excel document and I've run into a issue where all the records are not returned. When this query is run from Access, the format and number of records is correct according to the SQL. However, when I manage to link it to Excel, some of the fields are in positions not consistent with the query in Access and a few records are left off altogether.
The query relies on Oracle ODBC connections for which a password is required. I used the Import Wizard in Excel to save the password so that it can refresh properly without user input again. Is this the reason for the fewer number of rows returned?
At first I thought this issue might be happening because some fields do not have any data supplied. To work around this, I changed the query in Access to sort by a field that has some sort of data by descending, but this did not seem to work. Am I missing something?
