I am using node.js in Terminal on my Mac and 3 dots keep showing up as in: '...' The code is correct (no mistakes) there is nowhere I can go from here. Every time I press enter the 3 dots are there. The only way to escape is to restart Terminal. Can anyone help?
All I have to do is use CTRL C and it goes back to normal.
Although CTRL C returns node to working order it cancels out everything previously coded. Is there a way, other than CTRL C, to cancel just the block that caused the problem?

I am very new to Python and I am used to R studio so I choose Spyder. On the Spyder layout I saw a button 'run current line (ctrl +f10)'. But it doesn't work by pressing the button or c+10. Am I missing something? I can only select the script and 'ctrl+enter ' to run current line which is not convenient at all. I am using ubuntu with Anaconda distribution.
The key to run the current line by itself is F9. The shortcut ctrl+F10 is used if you are in debugging mode.
You can see a list of shortcuts by selecting Preferences in the Tool menu, and then clicking on Keyboard shortcuts.
Coming from R studio I imagine you were hoping to have a command that runs the next command, rather than just that one row (which can break a command into several parts and cause errors).
The exact equivalent doesn't exist yet but if you get accustomed to adding #%% before and after chunks ("cells") you want to run together then you can use the following commands to run the whole chunk.
Run cell: Ctrl + Return
Run cell and advance : Shift+Return
F9 is the key that does the job for you.
To replicate the RStudio style, go to Preferences in Tools menu and go to Keyboard Shortcuts.
Since Ctrl + Enter is assigned to another function, change that first.
Then assign the F9 key value to Ctrl + Enter. Now Spyder is the same as RStudio. Atleast in a way.
Some keyboards have a different layout than others in terms of what the keys are supposed to do. For me running happens if done via Fn + F9.
Control Enter is a quick way of executing a line or block of code in both R Studio & Python.
In Spyder, make sure the line or block is highlighted before you hit 'ctrl-enter'
Hello and thank you in advance,
I am wondering if there is a way to change the layout of my keyboard (software-wise).
The problem is that, on my laptop's keyboard, the Page Up and Page Down keys are combined with the Home and End keys respectively (i.e. to use Home, I have to use the command fn+PgUp/Home).
Is there a way for me to switch what my keyboard receives in Windows 8? If I press the PgUp/Home key I would like the Home command to be entered, and if I entered fn+PgUp/Home I would like the PgUp command to be entered.
I have tried googling for this using several different keywords, but haven't been able to find anything.
Any help is appreciated,
Zach
This is a duplicate question.

Keep in mind this does require registry edits which can be dangerous and can lead to critical failures if not done correctly. Always create a restore point before making any registry edits.
I am using Sublime Text 3 and every time I press tab it will add an extra tab. My settings are to display tabs as an actual tab (not spaces) and is equivalent to 4 spaces. My issue causes a single tab to therefore create 2 tabs the length of 8 spaces.
For example, if I am trying to indent it will tab twice and I will have to delete one tab.
If I select a block of text it will indent it twice and result in the text being deleted and I have to undo it once to bring the text back.
Also, when using auto complete I normally hit tab to auto complete the first option. It will select the option and do a tab after it. I am not sure if this is an option or setting but its extremely annoying and I have not found a solution yet.
Sublime Text double tabs on tab key press
Sublime Text deletes/removes text on indentation / tab
Both problems are due to a popup (most often the SFTP free version popup for me) hiding in the background. If you make sure to close the popup windows every time they appear you will not get these issues. You could also pay for Sublime or the plugin to remove the popups.
In OSX you can't focus back on Sublime Text without clicking on the popup, so you will never have these problems.
I just had the same issue. I just restarted Sublime and it worked again, no need to reinstall or change any settings.
I just encountered this problem recently, and it appears to only happen on Windows. In my case, the pop-up "Hello! would you like to purchase sublime?" was open in the background, and that caused this issue for me. Once that pop-up is closed, everything works just fine.
Although the question is three months old at the time of writing, this might help people that are still looking for an answer. After having this issue for a while, it annoyed me so much that I traced back the issue.
The double tab issue only happened after a while, so I figured it was triggered by a certain key combination, being pressed wrongly. I've also noticed that the bug only occurred at Windows, not on Linux (Ubuntu).
After disabling all Sublime Text 3 plugins one by one, I've noticed that, for me, SFTP triggered the bug. This happened upon saving, SFTP started uploading, and displayed a evaluation notice. As I've purchased SFTP (and activated it), the double tab bug never occurred again. Even after enabling all other packages, the double tab never troubled again.
This is only one solution to the problem, your problem might originate from something else. Try to disable packages which might cause the problem and try to find the problem that way. It's a lot of work, but might get you the solution.
This solution worked for me on windows:
Just go to
View -> Layout -> Single
I have a crazy problem on CentOS.
I was doing some editing in emacs when I accidentally hit some keys. Next thing I know, none of my regular keystrokes work.
I wasn't able to close emacs no matter what I tried (mouse on X doesn't work either).
I logged in from another PC and killed the emacs process.
However, this still doesn't fix the problem. Now, when I click my desktop shortcut, I can open another konsole, however, I can't type anything into that console!
When I click on the X to close it, I get this black hand, not the regular arrow.
Further, hitting enter doesn't do anything, and any keystrokes I type don't show up in the terminal.
However, if I type s, the Search heading on the terminal window drops down.
Does anybody know how to get out of this weird mode so I can use my PC again?
EDIT: More information. I think my linux is stuck in something similar to Windows ALT mode. For instance, in Windows, when you hit ALT, followed by F, the File menu will drop down. On my PC, when I hit F, the File menu immediately comes down on the active terminal. However, I cannot for the life of me get out of this mode. Been stuck for over an hour now!!
Hitting the ALT key may have solved the problem. I'm not sure if that was what ended up fixing it, but after I hit the ALT key a bunch of times, I got the VNC display to work properly again.
I just started programming J. Now I want to type
text=: 'hello world'
text
in the gtk terminal, which when run should display:
hello world
But when I type the single quote character it renders as ´, not as ' in the gtk terminal. And then when I run the program the interpreter says "spelling error".
Now the only way I can put a ' in the terminal is by typing it in notepad and pasting it in the gtk terminal. I find that cumbersome.
Now my question is:
Is there an easier way to type a ' in the gtk terminal?
I have Windows 7 64 bits version, also 64 bits version of J, version j64-701.
I just encountered this problem as well, and it appears that this is caused by a keyboard setting (controlling whether quotes appear directly or can be used to make é, ë and the like).
This setting can be changed in almost all Windows applications by pressing Left Alt + Shift. After using this combination, the single quotes appeared correctly for me.
HTH.
I've faced exactly the same problem and I found out that it happens in every software that uses GTK+ (Pidgin, GIMP, Geany, etc), if you have set your keyboard to English-International, when you press the single quote(')/double quote(") key, what you get is acute accent(´)/diacritic(¨).
The best solution to me was, adding the English-US keyboard to the list of available keyboards in Windows (yes, this solution is for windows but you can easily do something similar in any SO you are facing the same problem).
And when I want to input an [ ' ], I just press the default combination LEFT CONTROL + SHIFT to toggle between keyboards.
Long shot, but I'm guessing it's a keyboard thing. My French keyboard has a funky layout, and yours (I'm guessing Dutch?) might have one too. I guess I'm lucky, under Vista 64, I get single quotes, with the right key.
I think it's a bug of the specific version of J. I will ask this question to the support of the producers of J.
