I've downloaded clion and installed it on linux ubuntu to be able to use swift on linux. It works fine except for the fact that whenever I hit either the "backspace" or "delete" button, it just closes. No error message, nothing.
-- Edit --
I actually just tested some more and noticed that it closes on whatever input you give it... (as in random letters)
I've checked the keyboard shortcuts in the settings, but couldn't find anything that could cause this. Building and running the projects works, so I'm guessing it has nothing to do with a faulty installation...
What could cause this?

I'm using Godot_v3.2.1-stable_win64.exe(current Godot version) on my Windows 10. When running a project everything seems to work fine but when using the actual IDE of the Godot engine it seems like the IDE screen doesn't update fluidly on every mouse interaction but like only every 5 seconds instead (as like FPS would be low).
So mostly on hovering or clicking something it would light up or be triggered after you clicked on some other thing elsewhere (which is stupid of course).
This makes it even impossible to hit a button sometimes in the IDE.
E.g. when renaming a file a Window/Box for renaming pops up but you do not see it, because the IDE screen isn't updated. So if you don't blindly click on the box (which you don't see) the option for renaming is lost, because the box closes when clicking anywhere else. See what I mean?
Thank you for listening. Have a great day.
This is a known issue. Try updating your graphics driver to the latest version provided by Intel (not your OEM).
I'm running vscode into a Debian WSL subsystem on top of my Windows 10 workstation, thanks to Xfce4 window-session and vcXsrv X server.
I'm working on a Python 3 project and I have a strange behavior with my vscode editor running on WSL that I can't reproduce with either the native Windows or Linux build : Let's say in want to access a dict key, I'd type the following code:
my_dict[
here I'm expecting IntelliSense auto-close the bracket and keep the cursor between the brackets. This what usually happens (at least with my native vscode on Windows and on my vscode on my /real/ Linux box). But this is not what happens on my WSL !
Seems the cursors goes backward before actually typing the open bracket so the bracket is typed one char earlier, and finally don't close the bracket, To be clearI get the following typed in the editor:
my_dic[t
If I workaround by typing a space before typing the opening bracket, I get the same behavior but this time as the earlier char is a space IntelliSense is functionning /almost/ as expected, forwarding the typed space at the end of line (bellow the '$' represents EOL) :
my_dict[] $
I experienced this with brackets ([]) and also braces ({}), with python code and also JSON files, so I don't wonder this is related to language extension.
Last but not least, the only installed extension, is "Python 2019.1.0" by Microsoft and the setup is full stock with no customization at all...
I spent hours reading vscode documentation and browsing for similar issue, with no luck (maybe wrong keywords ?), so any hint will be appreciated, thanks !
In the backend, you're still utilizing conhost from the Windows Console to run all your terminal commands. Some cursor behaviors don't work properly in earlier builds of Windows on WSL (but do work fine on Windows). Try to update to the latest and see if you still encounter the issue. If you do then, check for an issue in https://github.com/Microsoft/console and create one if not there.
I feel like I have been coming the internet for days with absolutely no result.
I have taken some web programming classes, and would like to learn some python, just because programming is wicked interesting altogether, and have run into a fairly large hurdle given my experience.
the problem is this: Python.exe (or is is more properly pythonw.exe?) v3.3.3, running on windows 8.1 used to launch fine. Typed up a simple program to roll various sided die, worked out well. Then I changed the key bindings for 'Run Module' from 'ctrl+f5' to 'crtl+alt+spacebar.'
As soon as I did this IDLE crashed and so did the shell. Now the process will not run AT ALL. I cannot access it through the desktop icon to go back and revert the settings. I also attempted to look at the .def files and change it from there but could not find the 'run module' command. It looked like all the key bindings in the .def files were for the shell.
When I double click, nothing, when I run as admin, nothing. run from the start menu, nothing. I uninstalled and re-installed, rebooted, everything low tech I can think of. Now i'm out of my element and could use one of you brilliant social programmers!!
I've found information about checking with some tool called 'Windows Process Manager' some stuff about what to do with the CMD prompt (something about a path problem ...it intuitivly sounds like I very well could have created a 'path problem' but I'm not 100% I know what that is exactly).
I'm sorry for the lack of links, the pages were farther back in my browsing history than I expected. Hopefully i'm not asking an instant many down vote question here, most of the resources online are for either an older version of windows, Lunix, or an older version of python (which is actually where the path problem hint came from)
Thanks any and all greatly for any time spend reading/answering.
Immensely appreciated.
Find file HOME/.idlerc/config-keys.cfg, where on Win7 HOME would be 'C:/Users/yourloginname', and delete the key binding or, if there is nothing else in the file or nothing you want to keep, the whole file.
If you were to run Idle from a console with python -m idlelib, you would probably see an error message. (Yes, you were probably running with pythonw, as when using the start menu or icon. This works better in 3.4.2 and I am working or more improvements.)
I do not know the specific reason for your crash. I set Zoom-height to --space, restarted, and it works, no problem.
I have a system, written on PyQt4. It is mostly developed and debug under linux (ubuntu) systems, in Eric IDE, and everything works fine. Last task was to create a nested editor for a table cell. So, i did it and it also looks nice in ubuntu. I also ran it under Windows 7 x64, and the behavior was the same.
However, after making executable file with cx_Freeze in Windows 2000 (it's weird, but this environment was configured before me), the editors behavior became unexpected. After opening Editor it's first cell have 'role == Qt.EditRole', and it's almost impossible to commit any changes there without closing the whole Editor. Another issue is about "OK" button - it closes the Editor window, but doesn't commit any changes in it also, and you cannot call it again without changing the active cell (but maybe i just forgot to emit some signals here, so it's not the main bug here).
So my question - where should i look to find the reason for these problems. I'm new to qt, and maybe it is normal behavior and just my fault in code? Or the reason is in different environments (python 2.7, latest pyqt vs python 2.6 and some older pyqt). Or it is the influence of cx_Freeze... Maybe some other directions?
Sorry for long post and my English :)
Hope to get any answers soon.
I think there's a chance that Qt or PyQt on windows 2000 server is outdated or broken.
So If possible, bring cx_freeze related code to your local computer and test it out.
If it fixes the problem, you can upgrade or reinstall Qt on windows 2000 server.
I have a crazy problem on CentOS.
I was doing some editing in emacs when I accidentally hit some keys. Next thing I know, none of my regular keystrokes work.
I wasn't able to close emacs no matter what I tried (mouse on X doesn't work either).
I logged in from another PC and killed the emacs process.
However, this still doesn't fix the problem. Now, when I click my desktop shortcut, I can open another konsole, however, I can't type anything into that console!
When I click on the X to close it, I get this black hand, not the regular arrow.
Further, hitting enter doesn't do anything, and any keystrokes I type don't show up in the terminal.
However, if I type s, the Search heading on the terminal window drops down.
Does anybody know how to get out of this weird mode so I can use my PC again?
EDIT: More information. I think my linux is stuck in something similar to Windows ALT mode. For instance, in Windows, when you hit ALT, followed by F, the File menu will drop down. On my PC, when I hit F, the File menu immediately comes down on the active terminal. However, I cannot for the life of me get out of this mode. Been stuck for over an hour now!!
Hitting the ALT key may have solved the problem. I'm not sure if that was what ended up fixing it, but after I hit the ALT key a bunch of times, I got the VNC display to work properly again.
