I would like to know what redirection rule should be in my .htacess file, which is common for multiple websites
What I want is something like :
http://example.com/asq_question.php
to be redirected to
http://example.com/faq
I've tried many examples but they won't work.
My last failed Rule:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.example\.com$
RewriteRule ^faq/$ http://www.example.com/asq_question.php [P]
Converting my comment to an answer since I cannot post multiline code in comments;
Try this rule in site root .htaccess
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.example\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^asq_question\.php$ /faq? [L,NC,R=301]

I'm running a wordpress installation and want to move specific feeds off-site. I've already got most of the technology down, but here's the problem. I want the following URL:
http://www.csicon.net/g/feed
to redirect to
http://feed.mesr.it/g
But if the URL comes in like this:
http://www.csicon.net/g/feed?noRedirect
I don't want it to redirect but load the original. Any thoughts?
The .htaccess file on http://www.csicon.net/ would contain:
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^$
RewriteRule ^\/g\/feed$ http://feed.mesr.it/g [L,R=301]
Note: It has not been tested, but you get the idea.
Later Edit: Also, this can be done in PHP.
You can use this code in your DOCUMENT_ROOT/.htaccess file:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)csicon\.net$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} !(^|&)noRedirect [NC]
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/feed/?$ http://feed.mesr.it/$1 [L,NC,R=302]
I know this is a duplicate question but I tried all the answers here on stackoverflow and many results on google but nothing works.I even tried to use this htaccess redirect generator http://www.htaccessredirect.com/ that gave me this code
## Rewrite to www
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^a.solutionbanks.com[nc]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http:## www.a.solutionbanks.com/$1 [r=301,nc]
that also didn't work.
all what I am trying to do is to redirect from a.solutionbanks.com to --> www.a.solutionbanks.com
Your syntax is wrong at many places. Try this rule:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^a\.solutionbanks\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,NE,R=301]

I use the following rules to rewrite a subdomain call to a page in the root of the website:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.domain\.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([a-zA-Z0-9/_.-]+)\.domain\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule .? headlines.php?url=%1 [L,QSA]
This works fine. I use this for a rss - news related website. For example: http://economy.headlines.com will internally look at http://www.headlines.com/headlines.php?url=economy
I also want to link to the news items in the following way:
economy.headlines.com/news/title/id
How do i do this ? Because every time the first rules are "fired". Even if i make other rules with the [L] flag the other rules are fired and nothing happened.
How can i combine the rules above with new rules which also look at files in the root of the site but with parameters in the url ?
You should be able to combine both if you evaluate the path component of the request you rewrite:
Rewriteengine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.domain.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([a-zA-Z0-9/_.-]+).domain.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/([^/]+)/([^/]+)$ headlines.php?url=%1&category=$1&title=$2&id=$3 [L,QSA]
Probably you have to do some fine tuning, but I think you get the idea: the first argument of the RewriteRule is a regular expression that splits the request path into its components. Those can be referred to using the $1 and $2 notation you can see towards the end of the rule.
Edit: added the category parameter to the RewriteRule as discussed in the comments below.
I have a little problem in hands.
I am setting up a domain that as 3 languages, example.com for principal domain, en.(...) for english and de.(...) for germany.
Usually I only redirect the httpdocs from the subdomains to the main with ln -S because all languages executes the same code, the difference is matched from php and mysql.
My new host don't provide any ssh connection so I have to use a different approach on this.
It was told to me that it can be done by .htaccess but I already tried a lot of things but only can redirect, changing the url and that's not possible, it have to keep the same, the contents yes, will be from another domain. Can someone help?
This code should looks like the one you're searching for :
www.domain.en .htaccess
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/en/$1 [L,R=301]
www.domain.de .htaccess
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/de/$1 [L,R=301]
You'll propably adapt the http://www.domain.com/lang/$1 part to your needs.
EDIT
Following your comment, this is a code for subdomains redirections :
domain.com .htaccess
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^en\.domain\.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http://domain.com/en/$1 [QSA,L]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^de\.domain\.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http://domain.com/de/$1 [QSA,L]
I have a site that has been up for some time. I had a blog on a subdomain for some time. I have decided to do away with the main site and just support the blog subdomain.
I have a redirect setup for this, but it carries all the extra parameters through to the blog which results in a file not found page appearing. I just want the redirect to go to the index page without parameters.
What I currently have in my .htaccess file is this
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^.*$
RewriteRule ^/?(.*)$ "http\:\/\/blog\.foo\.org\/index\.php" [R=301,L]
When I get a request to
http://www.foo.org/foo/foo/?module=foo
it redirects to
http://blog.foo.org/foo/foo/index.php?module=foo
I want it to redirect to
http://blog.foo.org/index.php
You have to specify the query in the replacement to override the original:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^blog\.example\.org$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http://blog.example.org/index.php? [R=301,L]
RewriteEngine On
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?foo\.org$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http://blog.foo.org/ [R=301,L]
