Inside a p:dataTable i have some ajax events that display FacesMessages when i edit something
<p:ajax event="cellEdit" listener="#{userRegistrationController.cellEditAction}"
update=":currentUserForm:currentUsersFormMessages"/>
<p:ajax event="colResize" listener="#{userRegistrationController.colResizeAction}"
update=":currentUserForm:currentUsersFormMessages"/>
<p:ajax event="colReorder" listener="#{userRegistrationController.colReorderAction}"
update=":currentUserForm:currentUsersFormMessages"/>
The only one that's not working is the "colReorder" one, when i call the method i have javax.el.MethodNotFoundException: Method not found: com.mycompany.primeautosales.jsf.UserRegistrationController#476d042d.colReorderAction(javax.faces.event.AjaxBehaviorEvent) .
Here are the methods colResizeAction and colReorderAction, i don't get why one work and the other doesn't.
public void colResizeAction(ColumnResizeEvent event){
FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addMessage(null, new FacesMessage(
"the width of column "+event.getColumn()+" is now "+event.getWidth()
));
}
public void colReorderAction(ReorderEvent event){
FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addMessage(null, new FacesMessage(
"reordered "+event.getComponent().toString()));
}
Is there something wrong with ReorderEvent class ?
Try with the bean Action parameter ty change to action behavior like below code
public void onReorder(AjaxBehaviorEvent event) {
DataTable dataTable = (DataTable) event.getComponent();
List<UIColumn> columns = dataTable.getColumns();
//build new column order to store
for(UIColumn : column columns)
{
//read column names
}
//store list to db
}
for reference Click here
The problem is that the ajax event "colReorder" does not support the listener parameter org.primefaces.event.ReorderEvent. That's why you have this error! As the #Araf mentioned above, the AjaxBehaviorEvent event is supported by the colReorder event.

I'm using PrimeFaces dialog framework. The dialog window have small x in the corner which closes it. Can I attach some code to it?
I've tried:
<p:commandButton id="btn_open" value="add" process="" update="messages" action="#{bean.openDialog}">
<p:ajax event="dialogReturn" listener="#{bean.onDialogClose}" update="messages"/>
</p:commandButton>
public void onDialogClose(CloseEvent event){
}
but no avail, I never get to onDialogClose function.
I think it's wrong event or signature, but I can't find the answer in documentation.
dialogReturn event must be handled by
public void onDialogReturn(SelectEvent event)
{
Object obj = event.getObject();
}
which is explicitly fired by
RequestContext.getCurrentInstance().close(obj);
on the dialog side.
Closing the dialog with the upper-right "X" button does not fire the dialogReturn event.
I don't know if it is possible at all to handle a dialog framework close event, the first thing that comes into my mind is to open the dialog with option closable="false" and create another button for closing it.
public void open(String outcome)
{
Map<String, Object> options = new HashMap<>();
options.put("closable", false);
RequestContext.getCurrentInstance().openDialog(outcome, options, null);
}
and then manage this state:
public void onDialogReturn(SelectEvent event)
{
Object obj = event.getObject();
if(obj == null)
{
// handle close
}
else
{
// handle object returned
}
}
I spent already more time as is good about some saving or updating issue in inputtext field, i go right to the point:
i have basic single input text with some basic attributtes
<h:inputText id="name" value="#{salesController.selectedSalesName}" />
here is a getter for inputText value
public String getSelectedSalesName(){
for(DealerListView dealer : dealerList){
if(dealer.getDealerId() == getSelectedDealerId()){
return dealer.getName();
}
}
return "";
}
nested in there i use ajax tag
<f:ajax event="change" render="name" listener="#{salesController.updateSelectedSalesName()}" />
a here is back bean method for updating a input text field
public void updateSelectedSalesName() {
DealerData dealDat = BeanFactory.getHotelDAOService(DealerData.class).findOne(selectedDealerId);
dealDat.setName(name);
BeanFactory.getHotelDAOService(DealerData.class).update(dealDat);
}
whole result of this is stack trace which say
value="#{salesController.selectedSalesName}": Property 'selectedSalesName' not writable on type sk.hotel.web.controller.SalesController
I know that something changes is need for that getter method but try some combinations without result which make corect update of value to database.
(I dont use any commands buttons for submit,update only response on pressing Enter in that inputText field.)
I want some guide how can be modified this save/update process whether on back-bean or jsf layout
or maybe someone solved similar situation already,and can share his solution.
Thanks all of you for advice posts.
Regards and nice day
First, add a field:
String selectedSalesName;
Add a setter and setter:
public String getSelectedSalesName() {
return selectedSalesName;
}
public void setSelectedSalesName(String selectedSalesName) {
this.selectedSalesName = selectedSalesName;
}
Add a ajaxListener(AjaxBehaviurEvent event) to create a new Dealer or Update current Dealer
public void ajaxListener(AjaxBehaviorEvent event) {
Dao dao = BeanFactory.getHotelDAOService(DealerData.class)
if (selectedDealerId == null) {
DealarData dealerData= new DealerData();
dealerDate.setName(getSelectedSalesName());
dao.add(dealerData);
setDealer(dealerData);
} else {
DealerData dealDat = dao.findOne(selectedDealerId);
dealDat.setName(name);
dao.update(dealDat);
}
}
A setter to the current dealer
int selectedDealerId;
public void setDealer(DealerData dealer) {
selectedDealerId = dealer.getId();
selectedSalesName = dealer.getName();
}
And the xhtml page:
<h:inputText value="#{salesController.selectedSalesName}" id="idSalesInput">
<a4j:ajax event="keyup" listener="#{salesController.ajaxListener}"
execute="idSalesInput"/>
</h:inputText>
Change "keyup" for the event you want to listen.
When you press a key, the listener is called, and the value of idSalesInput is submitted (the setSelectedSalesName() method is called here, for this reason you got the Property 'selectedSalesName' not writable exception),and the listener create or update a new DealerData.
Have a nice Day and sorry for my bad english!
Binding value in your inputText is two way, when it is rendered than getter is called to calculate value, when it is submited (like in your AJAX event) setter is called for that property to set value in your backing bean. So JSF tries to call setSelectedSalesName(String value). JSF can't write your property, which means can't call setter.

I have a "new item" form that requires a list of dates, with the following components:
A <rich:calendar> input;
A <a4j:commandButton> that adds the chosen date to a List<Date> chosenDates in the backing bean;
A <rich:dataTable> with it's value set to the List<Date> chosenDates attribute;
A <a4j:commandButton> per dataTable row that removes it's date from theList<Date> chosenDates;
How to validate (JSF's validation phase) the size of the chosenDates list on form submit (creation process)?
RichFaces 4, JSF 2.1 (Mojarra).
I'd advise a cleaner approach with a JSF PhaseListener. The JSF processing will stop skip ahead the other phases if validation fails. Create a PhaseListener that will inspect the size of your list during the validations phase as against during the model update/invoke action phase. Try something like this
Create a phase listener for the validations phase
public class TestPhaseListener implements PhaseListener {
#Override
public void afterPhase(PhaseEvent event) {
throw new UnsupportedOperationException("Not supported yet.");
}
#Override
public void beforePhase(PhaseEvent event) {
if(event.getPhaseId().equals(PhaseId.PROCESS_VALIDATIONS)){
FacesContext ctx = event.getFacesContext();
YourBeanClass theBeanClass = ctx.getApplication().evaluateExpressionGet(ctx, "#{someBean}", YourNeanClass.class); //obtain a reference to the backing bean containing the list
/*
inspect the size of the list here and based on that throw the exception below
*/
throw new ValidatorException(new FacesMessage("Too many dates","Too Many Dates"));
}
}
#Override
public PhaseId getPhaseId() {
throw new UnsupportedOperationException("Not supported yet.");
}
}
Register your new listener in the faces_config.xml file
<lifecycle>
<phase-listener>your.package.structure.TestPhaseListener</phase-listener>
</lifecycle>
EDIT: Based on your comment, as an alternative, you can hook into the component's lifecycle using the <f:event/> tag and the preValidate or postValidate events (depending on your preference)
A listener tag to your component
<rich:dataTable>
<f:event type="preValidate" listener="#{yourBean.listener}"/>
</rich:dataTable>
Define a listener method in your backing bean to run per your defined event. The method signature must take an argument of type ComponentSystemEvent
public void preCheck(ComponentSystemEvent evt){
//You're in your backing bean so you can do pretty much whatever you want. I'd advise you mark the request as validation failed and queue FacesMessages. Obtain a reference to FacesContext and:
facesContext.validationFailed();
}
Do something like:
#{yourBean.chosenDates.size()}
I suppose you have a getter called getChosenDates which returns the chosenDates list.
Regarding your "validation concerns":
You can create a Validate method in your bean and return list of ValidationMessages. A sample is below, one that i used in my code.
public List<ValidationMessage> validate() {
List<ValidationMessage> validations = new ArrayList<ValidationMessage>();
int curSampleSize = sampleTable.getDataModel().getRowCount();
if(getNumberOfSamples() != null) {
size += getNumberOfSamples();
} else {
validations.add(new ValidationMessage("Please enter the no of samples to continue."));
return validations;
}
return validations;
}
Then, on submit you can check if you have any ValidationMessages as follows:
List<ValidationMessage> errs = validate();
if(errs.size()>0) {
FacesValidationUtil.addFacesMessages(errs);
return null;
}
Hope this helps!
I came up with a strange problem. I tried to isolate the problem so following is my simplified code.
public class MyBean {
private List<Data> dataList;
Data selectedData;
public MyBean() {
dataList = new ArrayList<Data>();
dataList.add(new Data("John", 16));
dataList.add(new Data("William", 25));
}
public List<Data> getDataList() {
return dataList;
}
public void edit(Data data) {
selectedData = data;
}
public void newData() {
selectedData = new Data(null, null);
}
public Data getSelectedData() {
return selectedData;
}
public class Data {
String name;
Integer age;
Data(String name, Integer age) {
this.name = name;
this.age = age;
}
public String getName() {
return name;
}
public void setName(String name) {
this.name = name;
}
public Integer getAge() {
return age;
}
public void setAge(Integer age) {
this.age = age;
}
}
}
xhtml:
<rich:modalPanel id="pop">
<h:form>
Name: <h:inputText value="#{myBean.selectedData.name}" required="true" id="txtName"/><br/>
Age : <h:inputText value="#{myBean.selectedData.age}" required="true" id="txtAge"/>
<a4j:commandButton value="Save"/>
<a4j:commandButton value="Close" onclick="Richfaces.hideModalPanel('pop');return false;"/>
<br/>
<rich:message for="txtName"/><br/>
<rich:message for="txtAge"/>
</h:form>
</rich:modalPanel>
<h:form>
<rich:dataTable value="#{myBean.dataList}" var="data">
<rich:column>#{data.name}</rich:column>
<rich:column>
<a4j:commandLink value="Edit" action="#{myBean.edit(data)}" reRender="pop" oncomplete="Richfaces.showModalPanel('pop')"/>
</rich:column>
</rich:dataTable>
<a4j:commandButton value="New" action="#{myBean.newData()}" reRender="pop" oncomplete="Richfaces.showModalPanel('pop')"/>
</h:form>
This is the path to error:
Load the page
Click the "Edit" link in first row(popup displays)
In popup, clear the "Age" field and click "Save".(Required message shown)
Click cancel(without filling "Age" field)
Click second link.
Now it shows irrelevant data(previous data). - This is the problem
Even when I click "New" button it shows incorrect data.
This happens only if a validation is failed in the popup.
Is there a solution for this?
This problem is in JSF 2 also recognized and explained in detail in the following answer: How can I populate a text field using PrimeFaces AJAX after validation errors occur? If you were using JSF 2, you could have used OmniFaces' ResetInputAjaxActionListener or PrimeFaces' <p:resetInput> or resetValues="true" for this.
To the point, you need to clear the state of the EditableValueHolder component when it's about to be ajax-rendered, but which isn't included in the ajax-execute. To clear the state, in JSF 2 you would have used the convenience method resetValue() for this, but this isn't available in JSF 1.2 and you need to invoke the 4 individual methods setValue(null), setSubmittedValue(null), setLocalValueSet(false), setValid(true) to clear the state.
To figure out which components are to be ajax-rendered, but aren't been ajax-executed, in JSF 2 you would have used PartialViewContext methods for this, but this is not available in JSF 1.2 which hasn't standardized ajax yet. You'd need to fiddle with RichFaces specific ajax API in order to figure that. I can't tell that from top of head, so here's a kickoff example assuming that you already know the components which needs to be cleared. Imagine that the form in your popup has id="popForm" and the name input field has id="nameInput", here's how you could clear it inside the newData() method:
UIInput nameInput = (UIInput) context.getViewRoot().findComponent("popForm:nameInput");
nameInput.setValue(null);
nameInput.setSubmittedValue(null);
nameInput.setLocalValueSet(false);
nameInput.setValid(true);
do one thing on cancel action set all popup values null. now in your next click all values set to be default.
or on click set all previous values null. and set all respective values after that.
I had the same problem. if you are using Primefaces, the solution is as simple as putting resetValues="true" on your p:commandLink or p:commandButton that loads the selected item.
After validation failed if you want to remain same as input data which you have pass as submission parameter, then set value attribute as your form bean name as mention below i.e.
<input type="text" id="fname" path="fname" value="${myFormBean.fname}"/>
I have a problem with selecting rows in the Primefaces Datatable. I use dynamic columns, so the standard row selection mechanism is not usable here, I implement checkbox selection myself.
To help, here's s simplified version of what I have in my xhtml:
<h:form>
<p:dataTable id="table"
var="result"
value="#{tableBean.results}">
<p:columns value="#{tableBean.columnNames}" var="column" columnIndexVar="colIndex">
<f:facet name="header">
#{column}
</f:facet>
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{colIndex==0}">
<h:outputLabel>#{rowIndex}</h:outputLabel>
<h:selectBooleanCheckbox value="#{tableBean.selectedRows[result[0]]}"/>
</h:panelGroup>
</p:columns>
</p:dataTable>
<h:commandButton value="Submit"></h:commandButton>
</h:form>
And here's what I have in the managed bean to select the checkboxes:
package testpackage;
import java.util.*;
import javax.faces.bean.*;
#ManagedBean
#SessionScoped
public class TableBean
{
private Map<String, Boolean> selectedRows = new HashMap<String, Boolean>();
List<List<String>> results = new LinkedList<List<String>>();
public TableBean()
{
List<String> row1 = new LinkedList<String>();
List<String> row2 = new LinkedList<String>();
row1.add("row1.ref");
row1.add("row1.id");
row1.add("row1.status");
row2.add("row2.ref");
row2.add("row2.id");
row2.add("row2.status");
results.add(row1);
results.add(row2);
//selectedRows.put("row2.ref", true);
}
public Map<String, Boolean> getSelectedRows()
{
return selectedRows;
}
public String submit()
{
List<List<String>> selectedResults = new ArrayList<List<String>>();
for (List<String> result : results)
{
if (selectedRows.get(result.get(0)) != null)
{
selectedResults.add(result);
selectedRows.remove(result.get(0));
}
}
return null;
}
public List<List<String>> getResults()
{
return results;
}
public List<String> getColumnNames()
{
List<String> columnNames = new LinkedList<String>();
columnNames.add("");
columnNames.add("REF");
columnNames.add("ID");
columnNames.add("STATUS");
return columnNames;
}
}
The getSelectedRows method works great, but the problem is that the setSelectedRows method is never called, so I don't know which checkboxes the user has selected. Maybe I overlook something very trivial, but cannot find the solution.
Any ideas on this? I would be very glad if you helped, or give any other row selection solution for the dynamic columns.
Thx in advance,
Levi
To me it looks you are rendering the wrong field in selectBooleanCheckBox.
You should be using variable or field from the result variable.
My solution:
In your situation you are rendering an object from List as a form of table row so if you want to make some changes and retrieve the status of that row then you should be using the variable from that object only.
I understand you are submitting the whole form and want to pickup all updated rows, in that case you will have to loop through the whole List and find all the rows which have been updated by checking the status in Request Handler(Action) bean.
Hope that helps.
The setter is never called for nested objects. You're the one who's responsible for creating them, not JSF. JSF just gets the nested object and then calls the setter on it (which is the put() method in case of a Map). You just need to determine the selected rows in the action method. Add an action method to the commandbutton:
<h:commandButton value="Submit" action="#{bean.submit}"></h:commandButton>
which is definied like follows (guessing/assuming that var="result" is in essence an Object[]):
public String submit() {
List<Object[]> selectedResults = new ArrayList<Object[]>();
for (Object[] result : results) {
if (selectedRows.get((String) result[0])) {
selectedResults.add(result);
selectedRows.remove(result[0]); // Reset.
}
}
// Now selectedResults contains all selected results.
}
