Hi I wrote a project on Android Studio, now I just want to create a exact duplicate to it so I could try some experiments on the new copy without ruining the old version. How can I do that?
Someone told me just to copy the file in finder(I'm using mac). I did that, and managed to open the new version as project. But it is not working.I am sure I need to edit a few places as the file name has changed, but I don't know where are the places to edit, any idea?
Thanks !
Well it depends on your project. Is it a small one or a big one with huge memory?
If it's a small one and you have enough memory in your Mac, just copy the whole folder instead of a file and paste it somewhere else. Then you can do anything you want to in the new one.
If your project is huge and don't want to waste memory, I suggest you to use GitHub.
Just Follow this steps:
Clean renamedProject
Go to java folder and Refactor > Rename to renamedProject
Change app name in strings.xml
Change applicationID to renamedProject if not already changed.
Sync Project
Check out Detailed Steps in Official Book:

To answer your question, you can simply locate project folder in finder, and copy it at different location with new folder name. Now open it in Android studio. This would create a replica of your project.
But better approach to achieve your requirement is GIT. You can refer following documentation for better git understanding.

Following some links here I tried to rename a project. I went to c:\path\to\AndroidStudioProject and renamed the folder there, then found the .idea file and changed that. Now the project loads but java files are missing! However, on clicking java (in the bar at the top), then com I can see them each with a small red j.
I then looked in module Gradle build where there were 3 files, one with the new name and 2 older ones which stated that they did not belong so I deleted them, copying the compile info into the new one. Naturally on doing a Sync Now I get a bunch of errors.
Why does this have to be such a complex operation? Can anyone assist?
After you rename the folder, open the project in Android Studio. From there, right click something that needs to be renamed (e.g., module, package names, etc.) and use Refactor->Rename from the context menu. Keep doing this until everything that can be refactored is.
You will need to manually change the value of applicationId in the app-level build.gradle. Obviously, things like #string/app_name will also have to be changed manually. I recommend making these manual adjustments from inside Android Studio rather than directly editing the files. That way you'll know immediately if you break something.
I have a project under source control in Visual Studio 2012 using TFS2010. When I added this project, the solution was not added in the correct file folder location. I want to move the solution, but every time I try to do it within the Source Control Explorer I encounter an error: "The project file 'path/to/project.csproj' has been moved, renamed, or is not on your computer." What is causing this error? What is the proper way to move the solution to where I want it to be?
Move the solution file in TFS (this is more relevant if you have history you want to maintain)
Open the solution, it will complain that it can't load your projects, either edit the path to the project in the properties window, or remove each project and then re-add it. Check-in your changes
Delete the .suo file and try once. Has helped me in the past. This file is usually hidden. Restart VS after deleting.
The problem is the solution file has relative paths to the project files. I usually do any moving around when I first create the solution (before there are projects in it). However, in your case I would just use Source Control Explorer to move the solution, then edit the .sln file in a text editor and fix up the relative paths to the proj files.
I am trying to put several existing projects in one blank solution. This solution plus existing projects then need to be added to TFS source control.
Is there any way to achieve this? I simply am not able to find out how to get this done. Adding the project to a blank solution is relatively easy. Except it only places references to the existing project, rather than adding the files to the solution.
So when checking-in at sourcecontrol, it does not recognise the projectfiles as they do not get added to the solution, just references.
How can I get this done?
I managed to figure it out.
Add projectfiles of the project to be added to the solutiondirectory.
Add a reference to existing project (the one now in your solution directory).
In Windows Explorer, rightclick on the projectmap you just added and navigate to "Team Foundation Server" --> "Add".
The showing messagebox will describe which files will be added (they should be ONLY projectfiles, no bindirectory or anything).
Then reopen the solution in Visual Studio and the project should appear to be in source control.
Edit: The changes to show up in the pending-changeswindow, you just have to add them manually. They should show as "detected". Select these to be promoted and you should be able to check them in.
I have got thousands of files/folders inside a solution. For some reason I have to exclude them all and then include again in the project, to get the latest list of files.
The normal "Exclude From Project" in visual studio menu takes too much time. Is there a quick way to do it?
Thanks!
Put them all into one master folder and include that folder.
If some are files, you may also want to compile them and include the DLLs or the equivalent in whatever language you're using.
I finally have my C++ Builder 2010 installation the way I want it, with all my components upgraded and installed. (touch wood)
I have been working with C++builder since version 1 and I know from countless previous traumatic experiences that this state of affairs could change in an instant. I would like to backup the installation and component set.
Is there a way to do this? A tool perhaps? A menu command that I have maybe missed all these years? I don't want to have to reinstall all the components from the bpl source again.
I make nightly backup images of my entire drive, I would like to do this for c++builder only if possible.
If it's a matter of simply copying files, which files would I need to copy? Are there entries in the registry that would need to be restored?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts and suggestions
The HKCU\Software\CodeGear\BDS\7.0\ registry section contains the "known packages" subtree that contains which components you have installed. reg export/import should save you some trouble.
You'll also want to backup/restore the actual files referenced there as well.
It has been a while since I used C++ Builder, but I will make two suggestions...
1) run regedit and looks for "builder". You will probably find a hive like hk_local_machine/software/codegear or such. Export that and you can import it later
2) have a look at GExperts - is they don't have the exact solution, they still have some pretty useful (and free) tools
