Disable file integrity check on Linux NAS server (WD MyCloud Ex41) - linux

I have a Linux NAS server (WD MyCloud Ex41) that I want to create an aditional apache2 vhost on it. Now the problem every time I create a new vhost file and when i reboot the server my vhost that i created will lost and back to its original config. With that said, I think the OS has performing the file integrity checking during boot or so. Is there a way to disable this, or maybe create a config file during boot at runs/execute the new config file it after the integrity checking? or maybe on bash script? Please advise. Thanks

get previous nginx configuration file

on my server (os : ubuntu 16) I have update my nginx configuration file by mastake then save and close the file , Is there away to get previous file before changes , hint: I havn't restart nginx on my server yet . I need help immediately
Depends on your version of nginx.
See here: dump conf from running nginx process
in any case, you can dump the original nginx config-file with gdb.
Also, if you edited the file with a gnome software, there's a chance the config file backup is still there, under "filename~" (note the tilde at the end).
Or you can get the old inode from /proc/pid/fd (Linux keeps old used files in memory, until all processes using them exited - since nginx still runs, the inode is still there - inode or index node is the id of the file on the file system).

cPanel cron job, no input file specified?

I've just set up my first cron-jon to run a stock script every night.
Running it manually works fine.
It's stored in /admin/stock_update.php
The command i'm running is /usr/bin/php -q /admin/stock_update.php
But I'm getting emails saying no input file is specified?
Any ideas?
Cheers
Network services almost never expose actual paths on the server's hard disk drive and even if they could it isn't a behaviour you can rely on. So the fact that your file is located at /admin/stock_update.php in the FTP server doesn't say much about actual location on disk, which is what local command-line utilities expect.
In PHP, you can find path on disk of current file with the __FILE__ magic constant. You can create a test script:
<?php
var_dump(__FILE__);
... upload it to the same FTP location and execute through the web server. If that's not an option because files in your FTP account in not visible from the web you can run the file from cron and check the email.
Do you have CloudLinux kernel installed on that server and CageFS filestyem? If yes try running this:
cagefsctl -w cpaneluser; cagefsctl -m cpaneluser
Then try running the cron again

How do I restore CronTab to my WebMin system

I don't know if this was an effect of the shellshock attack which my server was victim to (or another attack that worked) but it basically enabled the hacker to overwrite my SSH config file when the server rebooted.
This new file used wget to load in a file from a website, then another library of hack functions which I guessed he then used to run hacks/DOS from my server. I caught it pretty fast and ideally want to upgrade but because I have cancer and just had a big operation it is too much effort at the moment.
Therefore I did a lot of house keeping, changing passwords, removing shell access, reverting back to DASH, replacing the default shell for root and any other users to another folder with symbolic links, restoring the config file for SSH, removing CGI functionality from config files e.g
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/searchmysite/cgi-bin/
#
allow from all
#
Removed AW stats and Webalizer for all virtual min sites.
I already had DenyHosts and Fail2Ban installed.
I also blocked in/outbound traffic to the IPs of the sites he was getting the files from.
However it seems since this change I have lost the visual cron manager from webmin.
When I go to the menu item "Scheduled Cron Jobs", it says, "The command crontab for managing user Cron configurations was not found. Maybe Cron is not installed on this system?"
However I can see in the file system it exists.
When I run crontab -l or crontab -e I get "Permission Denied"
whoami shows "root"
I did think at the time of the hack this was all related and he had used SSH and a Cron job to get his hack running.
What I want to know is how I can get the CronTab manager back.
All the cron jobs are still running such as importing feeds into my websites, running scheduled emails and so on, what I don't know is how to resolve this without a full rebuild.
If I had the time and energy I would do that but I am totally drained and before this hack everything was just running smoothly and my websites which bring me in money were working fine.
They currently are still working fine and I regularly check my logs for IPs that look odd, have strong htacess rules for xss/sql/path travesal/file hacks and ban whole countries from Cloudflare which the site sits behind. So I don't "think" the machine is compromised at the moment even if it is old - could be wrong though!
details of box
Operating system Debian Linux 5.0 Virtualmin version 3.98.gpl GPL WebMin Version: 1.610 Kernel and CPU Linux 2.6.32.9-rscloud on x86_64
So if anyone can help me get my crontab manager back that would be great.
Thanks
1) check if chattr exists, if not, download a new one.
2) type whereis crontab, then chattr -isa /path/to/crontab.(usually /usr/bin/cron) then chmod crontab back to it original settings.
3) navigate to /var/spool/ and
chattr -isa cron
cd cron
chattr -isa crontabs
4) remove cron entry in /etc/cron.weekly
Look in /etc/cron.weekly for any new

Apache2 Won't Start

I have set up ubuntu server on an old pc with webmin as well. I am not sure what was going on but i restarted the server and when it boots it now get this when Apache tries to start.
* Starting web server apache2
apache2: Syntax error on line 237 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default: No such file or directory
Action 'start' failed.
The Apache error log may have more information.
I have checked this file on this line and it looks like this:
# Include the virtual host configurations:
Include sites-enabled/
I have removed Apache and re installed it but not sure why it still fails.
As also answered by Qben, the issue was an invalid symlink in the sites-enabled folder. Removing the broken symlink and adding a valid one will fix the issue.
You do not have a default site enabled:
/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default: No such file or directory
site-enabled should contain symlinks to files in site-available and I guess your 000-default symlink does not link to a real file in site-available.
I guess this Ubuntu guide might be of interest for you.
One of the reason may be that you might have some site that is not enabled. To check that
Go to /etc/apache2/sites-enabled
Out of many/some [sitename].conf files , one/some may be crossed
Delete those found crossed
Restart apache server
sudo service apache2 restart.
Hope this has helped you , but may be some other reason too. Thank you.

how to transfer a file to my server directly from another server

Hey guys what is the easiest way to transfer a file to my server directly from another server, this way I won't download the file to my pc and then upload it to my server, so the requested file should look like http://www.examplesite.com/file.zip
my server is running linux, but I don't have SSH access.
So how can I do this ?
and thanks guys :D
Without SSH it will be very difficult. Possibly rsync might work, if its on both servers with damons set up. RCP (remote copy) exists, its simlar to SCP with out the SSH part, but I doubt its installed due to security concerns.
You have to start a shell on your server. Then try :
man wget
And use :
wget http://www.examplesite.com/file.zip
If you can not have acces to a shell then tell us exactly what control you have over your server.
