How to view generic event details with wpa? - etw

I record ETW events for CLR provider:
xperf -start clr -on e13c0d23-ccbc-4e12-931b-d9cc2eee27e4 -f clr.etl
...
xperf -stop clr
then open clr.etl in wpa.exe and see plenty of 'generic event'. But seems wpa do not display some data, which described in MSDN
All I can see is similar to this:
Process Unknown
Id 1
Opcode Name
Task Name
Provider Name e13c0d23-ccbc-4e12-931b-d9cc2eee27e4
Time 0,071731589s
Selection Duration 0,416407863s
Start Time 0,002151869s
End Time 0,418559732s
Data Points 1
Table Data Point Selection
Cpu 0
ThreadId 50 440
Sum of Count 1 23
Time (s) 0,071846769
Loo like this is GCStart_V1 event, but I cant find for example field Reason
Is it possible see generic events data in wpa?
WPA version - 10.0.10586.212

It occurs on "normal" machines quite frequently that the CLR ETW provider registrations get messed up due to .NET Hotfixes and such. In that case you need to re/register it with (64 bit)
wevtutil um %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\CLR-ETW.man
wevtutil im %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\CLR-ETW.man
If your problem was that your view was not configured to view Field1 .. N of custom events then the answer from lowleveldesign is the right one.

A side note: I usually record the trace with at least those two kernel flags:
xperf -on PROC_THREAD+LOADER -start clr -on e13c0d23-ccbc-4e12-931b-d9cc2eee27e4
xperf -stop -stop clr -d clr.etl
Otherwise the process names might not be resolved in WPA.
Coming back to your question, it's a bit strange how custom fields are rendered in WPA, but after you overcome the initial pain, you will find its editor pretty useful. The field you mentioned is one of the custom fields specific to the given event. By default those fields are not displayed and you need to add them in the Advanced view window:
I dragged the Field1 before the Thread Name column. Then you need to select an event (not its parent but the row with the event), and you will notice that the column names for fields are changed accordingly:
Also, the Message field usually contains all the fields (their names and values), for example in this case: Reason=1; Count=2; ClrInstanceID=36

2 Sequential Transactions, setting Detail Number (Revit API / Python)

Currently, I made a tool to rename view numbers (“Detail Number”) on a sheet based on their location on the sheet. Where this is breaking is the transactions. Im trying to do two transactions sequentially in Revit Python Shell. I also did this originally in dynamo, and that had a similar fail , so I know its something to do with transactions.
Transaction #1: Add a suffix (“-x”) to each detail number to ensure the new numbers won’t conflict (1 will be 1-x, 4 will be 4-x, etc)
Transaction #2: Change detail numbers with calculated new number based on viewport location (1-x will be 3, 4-x will be 2, etc)
Better visual explanation here: https://www.docdroid.net/EP1K9Di/161115-viewport-diagram-.pdf.html
Py File here: http://pastebin.com/7PyWA0gV
Attached is the python file, but essentially what im trying to do is:
# <---- Make unique numbers
t = Transaction(doc, 'Rename Detail Numbers')
t.Start()
for i, viewport in enumerate(viewports):
setParam(viewport, "Detail Number",getParam(viewport,"Detail Number")+"x")
t.Commit()
# <---- Do the thang
t2 = Transaction(doc, 'Rename Detail Numbers')
t2.Start()
for i, viewport in enumerate(viewports):
setParam(viewport, "Detail Number",detailViewNumberData[i])
t2.Commit()
Attached is py file
As I explained in my answer to your comment in the Revit API discussion forum, the behaviour you describe may well be caused by a need to regenerate between the transactions. The first modification does something, and the model needs to be regenerated before the modifications take full effect and are reflected in the parameter values that you query in the second transaction. You are accessing stale data. The Building Coder provides all the nitty gritty details and numerous examples on the need to regenerate.
Summary of this entire thread including both problems addressed:
http://thebuildingcoder.typepad.com/blog/2016/12/need-for-regen-and-parameter-display-name-confusion.html
So this issue actually had nothing to do with transactions or doc regeneration. I discovered (with some help :) ), that the problem lied in how I was setting/getting the parameter. "Detail Number", like a lot of parameters, has duplicate versions that share the same descriptive param Name in a viewport element.
Apparently the reason for this might be legacy issues, though im not sure. Thus, when I was trying to get/set detail number, it was somehow grabbing the incorrect read-only parameter occasionally, one that is called "VIEWER_DETAIL_NUMBER" as its builtIn Enumeration. The correct one is called "VIEWPORT_DETAIL_NUMBER". This was happening because I was trying to get the param just by passing the descriptive param name "Detail Number".Revising how i get/set parameters via builtIn enum resolved this issue. See images below.

Get numbers of all screens in Xlib

I've been googling for quite a long time and I just can't find any information on how to get screen_number for every screen connected to computer. Here I found a list of macros and some of them (like for example ScreenOfDisplay(display, screen_number) ) use argument screen_number. However there is no such macro that could give me a list of those numbers (one for every connected screen). I know how to get number of default screen (DefaultScreen() ) and count of all screens ( ScreenCount() ) but what about other screens? I noticed that screen_number of default screen is 0, although I have only one screen connected to my computer so I can't really test what happens when there are more of them. I think that screen_number could be assigned in a very simple way which is screen_number=0 for first screen,screen_number=1 for second,screen_number=2 for third and so on but as I said... I can't test wheather it's true and even if I had multiple screens how could I be sure that it works like this for all computers .Please ,if anyone of you has more experience with X11 and knows all details about how it works,tell me if I am right.
The ScreenCount(dpy) macro and int XScreenCount(Display*) function both return the number of screens connected to the display. Valid screen numbers are 0 to ScreenCount(dpy)-1. Macros in Xlib.h confirm:
#define ScreenCount(dpy) (((_XPrivDisplay)dpy)->nscreens)
#define ScreenOfDisplay(dpy, scr) (&((_XPrivDisplay)dpy)->screens[scr])
Your source (2.2.1. Display Macros) provides enough information. Normally the default screen-number is 0, e.g., when connecting to the local host you could use :0.0 as indicated in the documentation for XOpenDisplay.
That is "normally". If you run VNC, normally that runs on a different display (the first 0 in the simple connection string shown).
But (reading the documentation), when an application calls XOpenDisplay, it asks for the given screen-number (which the X server may/may not honor):
screen_number
Specifies the screen to be used on that server. Multiple screens can be controlled by a single X server. The screen_number sets an internal variable that can be accessed by using the DefaultScreen() macro or the XDefaultScreen() function if you are using languages other than C (see "Display Macros").

RPG get SFLSCROLL from mutiple format DSPF without responce wait

In RPGLE I'm try to get the SFLSCROLL from a DSPF with multiple formats displaying. I used a read of the SFLCTL to get the SFLSCROLL but the screen is waiting for a response.
How can get it to return to the program without the wait?
You can't.
From the manual: 'You use this field-level keyword in the subfile-control record format to return the relative record number of the subfile record that is at the top of the subfile when control is given back to your program.'
You could use WAITRCD() on CRTDSPF to cause a timeout, but you still need to wait for the timeout to expire.
Thank You I did see that solution but here it was a an order issue on the display.
There is a detail screen on the top of the screen then a subfile on the bottom.
(do not ask why the detail was not in the subfile control I think they had planned for multiple details in the header area)
They were doing a write of the sflctl then exfmt for the detail.
That was not giving me the SFLRRN to check new prompt in the subfile.
I changed it to do a write of the detail exfmt of the sflctl read of detail and that got all the data for me to process with them only hitting enter once after the display occurred so I could check the prompt in the subflctl:
C write dtl2
C exfmt sflctl1
C read dtl2

Can I import SAP tables that were exported by SE16?

I have exported the contents of a table with transaction SE16, by selecting all the entries and going selecting Download, unconverted.
I'd like to import these entries into another system (where the same table exists and is active).
Furthermore, when I import, there's a possibility that the specific key already exists for a number of entries (old entries).
Other entries won't have a field with the same key present in the table where they're to be imported (new entries).
Is there a way to easily update my table in the second system with the file provided from the first system? If needed, I can export the data in the 3 other format types (Spreadsheet, Rich text format and HTML format). It seems to me though like the spreadsheet and rich text formats sometimes corrupt the data, and the html is far too verbose.
[EDIT]
As per popular demand, the table i'm trying to export / import is a Z table whose fields are all numeric, character, date or time fields (flat data types).
I'm trying to do it like this because the clients don't have any basis resource to help them transport, and would like to "kinna" automate the process of updating one of the tables in one system.
At the moment it's a business request to do it like this, but I'm open to suggestions (and the clients are open too)
Edit
Ok I doubt that what you describe in your comment exists out of the box, but you can easily write something like that:
Create a method (or function module if that floats your boat) that accepts the following:
iv_table name TYPE string and
iv_filename TYPE string
This would be the method:
method upload_table.
data: lt_table type ref to data,
lx_root type ref to cx_root.
field-symbols: <table> type standard table.
try.
create data lt_table type table of (iv_table_name).
assign lt_table->* to <table>.
call method cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_upload
exporting
filename = iv_filename
has_field_separator = abap_true
changing
data_tab = <table>
exceptions
others = 4.
if sy-subrc <> 0.
"Some appropriate error handling
"message id sy-msgid type 'I'
" number sy-msgno
" with sy-msgv1 sy-msgv2
" sy-msgv3 sy-msgv4.
return.
endif.
modify (p_name) from table <table>.
"write: / sy-tabix, ' entries updated'.
catch cx_root into lx_root.
"lv_text = lx_root->get_text( ).
"some appropriate error handling
return.
endtry.
endmethod.
This would still require that you make sure that the exported file matches the table that you want to import. However cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_upload should return sy-subrc > 0 in that case, so you can bail out before you corrupt any data.
Original Answer:
I'll assume that you want to update a z-table and not a SAP standard table.
You will probably have to format your datafile a little bit to make it tab or comma delimited.
You can then upload the data file using cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_upload
Then if you want to overwrite the existing data in the table you can use
modify zmydbtab from table it_importeddata.
If you do not want to overwrite existing entries you can use.
insert zmydbtab from table it_importeddata.
You will get a return code of sy-subrc = 4 if any of the keys already exists, but any new entries will be inserted.
Note
There are many reasons why you would NOT do this for a SAP-standard table. Most prominent is that there is almost always more to the data-model than what we are aware of. Also when creating transactional data, there are often follow-on events or workflow that kicks off, that will not be the case if you're updating the database directly. As a rule of thumb, it is usually a bad idea to update SAP standard tables directly.
In that case try to find a BADI, or if that's not available, record a BDC and do the updates that way.
If the system landscape was setup correctly, your client would not need any kind of basis operations support whatsoever to perform the transports. So instead of re-inventing the wheel, I'd strongly suggest to catch up on what the CTS and TMS can do once they're setup with sensible settings.

Increasing the number of suggests shown in omnibox

Is it in anyway possible to increase the number of suggests that your extension may show in the omnibox?
By default it looks like 5 rows is the limit. I've read about a command line switch to change the number of rows (--omnibox-popup-count) but I am really interested in dynamically being able to set this in my extension.
5 rows isn't really enough for the information my extension want to show.
[Update 2018 - thanx version365 & Aaron!]
» Not hardcoded anymore! chrome://flags/#omnibox-ui-max-autocomplete-matches . Credit goes to #version365 answering below: http://stackoverflow.com/a/47806290/234309 « – Aaron Thoma
..[historical] detail: since the removal of --omnibox-popup-count flag (http://codereview.chromium.org/2013008) in May 2010 the number [was] hardcoded:
const size_t AutocompleteResult::kMaxMatches = 6;
a discussion two years later on the chromium-discuss mailing list about the 'Omnibox default configuration' "concluded"
"On lower performing machines generating more result would slow down the result display. The current number look like a good balance."
[which is not a very valid argument, considering the probably infinitesimal overhead retrieving more items than the hard-wired number]
why the heck is there no chromium fork that removes stupid UX limitations like this (or the no tabbar in fullscreen mode)^^
Since there is no more --omnibox-popup-count flag; you can use another flag which is new.
chrome://flags/#omnibox-ui-max-autocomplete-matches lets you select a maximum of 12 rows.
In fact there is no more --omnibox-popup-count flag
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=40083
So I think there is no way to enlarge the omnibox.
