I'm using Sublime Text 3.
When I go to Tools -> Xdebug -> Start Debugging (Launch Browser), Internet Explorer launches, although I have set Google Chrome to be my default browser in Windows 10 Settings.
I tried looking into Sublime Text settings files but I did not find anything concerning default browsers.
Is there a way to fix it?
XDebug Client (which I assume you're using) uses Python's webbrowser module to launch your browser. Apparently, something is wrong with your Windows setup, or the way the default browser is defined has changed, as webbrowser's default functionality isn't working. You can try it by opening Sublime's console (View -> Show Console or Ctrl`) and entering the following code:
import webbrowser; webbrowser.open("https://www.google.com")
I would imagine based on your problem that IE will open.
The only way I know of to get around this, short of modifying the code for XDebug, is to set the BROWSER environment variable to the complete path to the Chrome executable. Once you do that, completely restart Sublime, reconnect to your PHP server, and see if Chrome now works. You can also try the above code again.
Good luck!

I created a Safari Web Extension using the script that generates the project from a Chrome extension.
My users are confused by the process of buying the app and then running it which just opens a window that does nothing (they keep asking for refunds saying the app doesn't work). So I want to add some more text into the app window that tells them they have to look for the extension in Safari.
I can see how to add the text in the html file called "Main". But in my Mac app this means that the content no longer fits within the apps window. I'm trying to figure out how to change the size of the app window.
Also, the script generates a Mac app with a help menu but it just says that help is not available. How do I go about adding some help to explain that this App does nothing and that the extension is in Safari?
It seems like the script does a lot of the work for you but you still have to learn a bit about developing an App (rather than an extension) to make it a polished experience.
I am new to programming and my first task, which should be really simple, is to automate a proccess, where I log in in a website with my credentials, I click on some buttons and that is it. I am using Python 3.6 on windows 10.
I am trying to do it using the webbot module, which so far has come really handy but I have one big problem.
The standard browser for webbot is Google Chrome and thus the site always opens with Chrome. I need to open the site with Internet Explorer.
I have set IE as default browser, but nothing changed, Chrome would still open.
I deleted Chrome, but then when I would run the programm nothing would happen.
I checked the init.py file and the drivers folder of the module and I think that this module can only work with chrome.
Is it possible to use IE or does this mean that this package does not support this browser at all?
Which alternatives would you suggest?
Edit: If I am not mistaken Selenium does not support IE11 on windows 10, so that is not an option, unless I am mistaken.
Thanks in advance
There is no support for another browser other than Chrome (as far as the webbot module is concerned).
For a VSCode extension i want open browser within VSCode not externally, wherein i can load some URL (https://developers.redhat.com/)
I tried looking into various options to achieve it in VScode extension, what i came across is with help of webview i.e 'vscode.previewHtml' we can pass html content which would be rendered with in VSCode editor tab, but what i have is url to load. Can pass it to iframe but i can't open it in iframe
Another option is to open it in browser but it opens external browser.
what i need is to open a browser within IDE (VSCode), experience should be similar to what we get for 'vscode.previewHtml'
or as we see in IDEs like eclipse where browser window is opened right inside IDE.
As we can see below
Please give inputs, suggestions
It's possible now without extension. Open command palette (CTRL+P) and search for "Simple Browser: Show".
This is how it looks:
In order to render your html you can use the WebView API:
https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/extensions/webview
Microsoft has an extension in development, Live Preview. I use it to view html codecov reports inside of VSCODE and it at least works for that.
You just search for it in extensions and add it to VSCODE
UPDATED WITH REASONING
Goal: Run chrome web driver in background without showing an app icon in the dock or application bar. FYI: I can already run chrome headless, but I have not been able to hide or not show the chrome icon in my app bar.
Reason: I am building an application that accesses various websites in parallel and I would not like the chrome app icons to display for the synchronous tasks that are taking place. I want to run these tasks in the background.
Current Code with chrome options that will display headless chrome
chrome_options = Options()
chrome_options.add_argument('headless')
chrome_options.add_argument('window-size=1200x600')
driver = webdriver.Chrome(executable_path=executable_text, chrome_options=chrome_options)
Research
list of chrome options: https://peter.sh/experiments/chromium-command-line-switches/
one of many posts explaining how to do headless chrome: Selenium - chrome Driver fail to start in background (without a start-up window)
How can I hide the chromedriver app icons from displaying? Is there a chrome option I can set in addition to setting the 'headless' chrome option? Is this more of an OS setting that needs to be made to run chromedriver in the background? I am successfully able to run multiple chromedrivers in headless mode but it would be nice to NOT show the chrome icons in the dock or application tray similar to how phantomjs does not launch an app icon.
^In the image above those are the chromedrivers that run in headless mode displaying in my dock and ideally for my program I would not even want to display those icons since it is all background processing anyways.
Update (this worked for me to hide the chromedriver icons at least on my Mac):
I was not able to find a Chrome Option to accomplish hiding the chromedriver icons that appear in the dock. However, I was able to edit the Info.plist file for Chrome as part of my program to do the trick (of hiding chromedriver icons) using the LSBackgroundOnly key.
In the Info.plist for Chrome, programmatically, I entered:
<key>LSBackgroundOnly</key>
<string>1</string>
On my Mac using python3 code I used os.system to execute a terminal command using defaults to enter the LSBackgroundOnly key when the program is executing and then at the end of program execution I delete the LSBackgroundOnly key from the Info.plist.
like this:
1)
defaults write /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/Info.plist LSBackgroundOnly -string '1'
2)
defaults delete /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/Info.plist LSBackgroundOnly
AS INFO: This is tricky because your normal chrome app may start up in background mode if you don't add/delete LSBackgroundOnly properly during program execution. In my experience, worst case scenario you may have to manually remove LSBackgroundOnly from the Info.plist file then restart your computer to get Chrome out of background mode.
I remove the LSBackgroundOnly key from the Info.plist file in my program after program execution because the key only needs to be in the file when the chromedrivers are launched. After that I want to be able to use regular Chrome app without issues of it opening in background mode. But, if you understand your program execution and handle your exceptions, this will definitely work to hide the icons correctly and there will be nothing different in using your regular Chrome app.
Happy hacking.
This is not possible using Selenium. I don't really understand why you want to do this. Is there a real purpose, or it's just you don't want it to show? Even if the Chrome app shows on the dock, in headless mode, it works pretty good.
However, if you want your icon to not appear in the dock when opened, then you need to disable it by modifying the Info.plist file for that application.
In your Info.plist for Chrome, add this
<key>LSUIElement</key>
<true/>
This will prevent your app icon from appearing in dock, when working. I found this out a long time ago and this is the post where I saw it.
PS - I have not tested it for Chrome app. Please test at your own peril.
I have tried using the Tincr Chrome Extension now on Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) and it still does not seem to do the Live Reloading it claims to on its website when I am editing the file in an external editor. The Tin.cr website claims:
Any CSS or JavaScript changes you make in any editor reloads in Chrome
without refreshing the whole page
To explain further, I have tried installing this extension as an unpacked extension in Chrome with Developer Mode checked under chrome://chrome/extensions/ as suggested in the Tincr documentation. I have also tried installing this extension directly through the Chrome Web Store. The effect has been the same.
In terms of setting up Tincr, I have tried opening up my file locally without a web server using file://C:/htdocs/file.html which Tincr claims in its documentation it can read automatically without needing any setup, and also I have tried opening up my file via an Apache Web Server on localhost e.g. localhost/file.html and setting up the Project Type in Tincr as Http Web Server as suggested in the documentation, but both ways have been to no avail.
In terms of editing my local file, I have used a number of different external editors, for example, Geany on Ubuntu and Titanium Studio on Windows.
After editing the file in the editor I have left the page I am editing open in my Chrome browser with the Tincr plugin setup and enabled. However, after saving my file in the editor and looking to see if it live reloads in Chrome, nothing happens. The file simply stays the same. Again, to reiterate, this is happening in both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu).
And so my question is this: has anyone successful tried using this extension with an external editor and if so could you please detail the steps to get live reload to work as I'm beginning to think this may be a bug in the extension?
I think I may have an explaination. Having a look at the google groups for Tincr, it appears Tincr does not support html file refresh, and that it can only detect changes in either css or javascript.
