Linking JavaScript correctly in chrome extensions - google-chrome-extension

So I have a chrome extension, yet the JavaScript is not loading correctly. I tried linking a file but failed miserably. Have any ideas on how I can make buttons run functions when clicked? <script> tags do not work in this and the buttons do nothing, but the initial JavaScript does run... Here is my code

So, the functions in JS won't link to HTML. Any ideas?

By default, inline JavaScript will not be executed.
You could
Relax the default policy. See Inline Script for more details.
Remove onclick in popup.html and move that logic to your popup.js, code would look like (say your button id is buttonId0)

Chrome Extension Manifest V3 permission for Javascript [duplicate]

This seems to be the easiest thing to do, but it's just not working. In a normal browser the .html and .js files works perfectly, but in the Chrome/Firefox extension the onClick function is not performing what it's supposed to do.

Refused to execute inline script because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive: "script-src 'self' chrome-extension-resource:". Either the 'unsafe-inline' keyword, a hash ('sha256-...'), or a nonce ('nonce-...') is required to enable inline execution.
To access a popup's JavaScript console (which is useful for debug in general), right-click your extension's button and select "Inspect popup" from the context menu.

Q: The error mentions ways to allow inline code. I don't want to / can't change my code, how do I enable inline scripts?
A: Despite what the error says, you cannot enable inline script:
There is no mechanism for relaxing the restriction against executing inline JavaScript. In particular, setting a script policy that includes 'unsafe-inline' will have no effect.
Update: Since Chrome 46, it's possible to whitelist specific inline code blocks:
As of Chrome 46, inline scripts can be whitelisted by specifying the base64-encoded hash of the source code in the policy. This hash must be prefixed by the used hash algorithm (sha256, sha384 or sha512). See Hash usage for <script> elements for an example.
However, I do not readily see a reason to use this, and it will not enable inline attributes like onclick="code".
I had the same problem, and didn´t want to rewrite the code, so I wrote a function to modify the code and create the inline declarated events:

I decide to publish my example that I used in my case. I tried to replace content in div using a script. My problem was that Chrome did not recognized / did not run that script.
In more detail What I wanted to do: To click on a link, and that link to "read" an external html file, that it will be loaded in a div section.
I found out that by placing the script before the DIV with ID that
was called, the script did not work.
If the script was in another DIV, also it does not work
The script must be coded using document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function() as it was told

Adding jquery in developing a chrome extension [duplicate]

I looked at several posts about adding jquery in developing a chrome extension - but most are old and use manifest options that were deprecated (such as "background_page"). I have already added the "content_scripts" member. I still get "Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined ".
Taking the simplest possible scenario - building upon Chrome's extension sample to add jquery to it - we would have something like:

I have all files in the same directory (popup.html, icon.png, manifest.json, myScript.js, jquery.js).
There are no errors whatsoever in the html, nor in the script.
The only error I get upong clicking [Inspect popup] is:
Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined
What am I missing ?!?
You have not, in fact, included jQuery for your popup.
A Content Script defined in the manifest only applies to pages you specified in the manifest. In your case, any page on http and https scheme - but a popup has an effective URL chrome-extension://yourextensionsidhere/popup.html, and so it is not injected.
Content scripts are, conceptually, for pages you do not control. As a consequence, even if you could make Chrome inject the script, it would still not work for the code in the page because of the isolated context principle.
Since you have full control over your extension's pages, you need to manually include scripts with <script> tags.

As an aside, you will still need to wrap your code in $(document).ready(), as your code will execute before #btn is in DOM.
It sounds like you're saying there's no error in the dev tools console for the page (+ content scripts) you're loading, but the dev tools console for the popup (activated from "Inspect Popup" for your extension) is showing the error you mention.
I'd guess either your popup.html is using $ in some inline script, or your jquery.js is somehow empty. If the former, make sure you put a <script> tag to load jquery there before using it. Your content script should have access to it already, from what you've done in the manifest, but I don't believe that makes it available to the popup.

Fancy box popup is not working

I created a web application where it needs to popup images and videos from Fancy boxes called rippolls. Here my "Rippolls" are load in popup boxes and users can vote for those rippolls.
My question is, in one page I listed all rippolls and when I click on a rippoll with an image or video it is loaded withour fancy box and fancy box css.
I have referenced

but still I m getting a page without fancybox and its styles.
I am in a doubt of because I am putting some text values to rippoll( ex: rippoll name, rippoll question etc..) and it may having some special characters(#%$#{}) also, and is it the reason for not open rippolls in the fancy box.
Help me out for this. please post if any code segments where you successed.
