Graphical artifacts in eclipse - Linux Mint - Eclipse Mars - linux

I'm using the following configuration:
Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 2.8.6
kernel 3.19.0-32-generic
amd radeon r5 m330
driver: xserver-xorg-video-ati v 1:7.3.0-1ubuntu3.1
Eclipse Version: Mars.1 Release (4.5.1)
Build id: 20150924-1200
When I scroll the page I obtain this graphical problem (you can see the code duplicated, I imagine is a refresh problem of the GPU):
How can I solve the problem? I also tried to used fglrx-updates v. 2:15.200, but i didn't solve anything
I also tried to use an external monitor (samsung screen 23" connected with an hdmi) instead of the laptop screen but the problem doesn't goes away.

That seems to be related to libgtk3 usage in Linux Mint which is somewhat incompatible with Eclipse.
I had the same problem and I cured it adding:
--launcher.GTK_version
2
in eclipse.ini before --launcher.appendVmargs.
Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the whole story as I still have "strange" crashes, but might be JavaFX-related, so YMMV.

Surface book keyboard won't work in scientific Linux

I installed scientific linux 7.4(based on redhat 7.4) in my surface book. My touch pad is working correctly but the problem is the keyboard won't work in this OS. I also found that an external usb keyboard works correctly with it. I have Ubuntu and Windows beside this OS, but I don't have any problem with them. How can I fix this problem?
According to https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/6ca920/ms_surface_keyboard_does_it_play_nice_with_linux/
you would need at least 4.10 kernel for the surface to work properly.
The kernel version in your system can be obtained by uname -rv in the terminal.
The easiest solution is to update the kernel / linux-firmware package from your distro package manager.
If this does not work, probably you would need to reconfigure or update and reconfigure the kernel (e.g. to the latest stable mainline from https://www.kernel.org/)
A nice guide for configuration can be found here https://www.dotslashlinux.com/2017/09/11/the-linux-kernel-configuration-guide-part-11/

Ubuntu 16.04.3 intel skylake i915 external monitor not detected

My external monitor, connected via HDMI was working fine but now is not being detected (it says 'No video input'). I'm pretty sure I didn't make any changes to make it stop - it was working on the same setup yesterday.
I'm a pretty new linux user and also don't know much about graphics hardware and drivers. Appreciate any help, I'd like to understand what's going on!
I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.3 kernel 4.10.0-33
lshw -c video gives:
*-display
description: VGA compatible controller
product: Sky Lake Integrated Graphics
vendor: Intel Corporation
physical id: 2
bus info: pci#0000:00:02.0
version: 07
width: 64 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pciexpress msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
configuration: driver=i915 latency=0
resources: irq:124 memory:f0000000-f0ffffff memory:e0000000-efffffff ioport:e000(size=64) memory:c0000-dffff
I've tried booting from grub into kernel 4.8.0 and the monitor still wasn't detected.
I've also tried to no avail:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-core
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
I've also tried running the Intel graphics update tool and this also hasn't solved anything.
EDIT: It seems like I get the 'No video input' probelm if I plug in the HDMI cord before the computer has finished booting.
Pretty much the only answer one can give here based on the available information is, try checking the display cables, and, if that doesn't help, file a bug. Debugging display problems like this can be fairly involved, with several cycles of requesting and providing more information. That doesn't really work all that well here.
The alternatives for filing the bug are Ubuntu Launchpad and drm/i915 upstream. Upstream has the best knowledge about the driver and the hardware, but, depending on the issue, you might be expected to build and run the userspace components or the kernel from upstream git repositories.
I come across the problem and solve it with exactly the same card (i had same lshw -c video) by searching the NVIDIA X-Server settings (search inside apps) on my Ubuntu 16 LTS and activate the NVIDIA drivers for this card (I have a NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX)
After i log out and i have a bad errors display and i was blocked " this computer is running in low display mode" .
I just switch off the computer and restart it...and taatatatat HDMI was working and was able to display on my external Sansumg 27''
I had the exact same issue as OP. lshw not showing HDMI port, nada. Reinstalling xserver* did not work either.
May the gods of stack overflow smile upon you for that EDIT line, because plugging only after boot was complete, it did work for me as well.
This is quite interesting, as I am running 20.04. This issue came out of nowhere, just turned on the computer and voila, it was not working. There had been no updates, no changes that could affect this during previous session.
Would love to know if someone else has bumped into this problem.

Black Console after automated Debian UEFI install

I try to build a reproducible automated build environment based on Debian 8.1 Jessie.
I created a boot iso image based on a netinstall image and put a preseed.cfg file in int for automatic installation.
I managed to get it bootable with BIOS and UEFI and can install a KDE Developer Debian in VMWare Workstation 11 fully automated.
I have also a server iso image to install a debian Server with Jenkins, both with BIOS and UEFI Boot.
But after the installation, the Version with UEFI Boot shows a black Screen when started.
I can blindly log in, start the gui with "startx" and see my installed xfce desktop. When i quit xfce the console is usable and visible.
I tried suggested bootparameters "nomodeset" and "vga=Linux" that i found with google to no avail.
I also tried to debug the boot prozess, to find out which command leads to a blank screen, but i did not find the right place to delay the processes at bootup so i can see when the messages dissapear (quiet bootparameter was removed :-)
I also tried to reset the console to no avail.
Can anybode point me to a tool that does the same "switching" like X so the console is useable?
Can anybody give me some hints how to debug the bootprocess to find out which command is causing this behaviour?
I dont want to install X because this should be a headless server system later.
I managed to get my system to boot using the kernel command line modprobe.blacklist=vmwgfx, or placing 'blacklist vmwgfx' in /etc/modprobe.d/*.conf
I assume it is some bug in the vmwgfx module, however as this workaround works for me I have no immediate need to investigate further.

Beaglebone cross compilation

I am a freshman for the beaglebone. I need your help. I have installed the cross compiler toolchain arm-linux-gnueabi on my 64 bit xubuntu in eclipse as well as codeblocks environment. I have made a hello world program, cross compiled it in 3 ways using eclipse , using terminal, using Codeblocks. But when i run my executable file in Beaglebone i get the error saying cant load shared file libstdc++6.so.6:file not found.
Though i have already installed latest libstdc++6,ia32-libs and configured it. I am using ssh for logging into my Beaglebone. My all projects are pending because of this. Please suggest solution. I will be grateful to you. I have worked according to derek molloy c,c++ video but still got the error. I think it is because of difference between 32 bit and 64 bit in beaglebone and laptop respectively.
Have you really installed libstdc++6,ia32-libs on your BB? It looks like x86 lib. Take a look at Buildroot. It already provides BB target, so you can get your basic rootfs quite quickly. Then just add needed packages and you are done. The main benefit, when using such distro like BR, that you have all needed dependencies in your rootfs, that you burn on your microSD card. BR also provides Eclipse plugin.
I thought abi used was arm-linux-gnueabi but when i got the details of abi version running on my beagleboard i found it was arm-linux-gnueabihf. So i just replaced the compiler and then it was able to find all the files.

Is CUDA in installed correctly on my Ubuntu 10.04? Some samples don't run.

I am trying to install CUDA on a server running Ubuntu 10.04.
I followed the NVDIA instructions and installed the "CUDA toolkit for Ubuntu Linux 10.04", "GPU Conputing SDK code samples",and "Developer Drivers for Linux (260.19.26) (64 bit)", my system is 64 bit. This installation seems successful. everything downloaded from http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda_3_2_downloads.html#Linux
According to the messages of the installation packages, I added /usr/local/cuda/bin to PATH, /usr/local/cuda/lib64:/usr/local/cuda/lib to LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Then, I tried to run the sample programs. The strange things is, some of them can be run, and some of them don't even through they can be made with no problem.
For example,
- convolutionSeparable will just stop there without any message, I can kill it by ctrl + c.
matrixMul outputs a line
Device 0: "Quadro 5000" with Compute 2.0 capability
and stop there, again can be killed by Ctrl+C
clock works, outputs
PASSED
time = 12574
Press ENTER to exit...
simpleMultiCopy outputs PASSED
MonteCarlo outputs PASSED
simpleZeroCopy outputs PASSED
bandwidthTest stops there with blinking cursor for ever.
What is wrong with this?! How can I check if my CUDA installation is successful ? What is wrong with those programs don't run? They don't even have a error message.
I would start by upgrading the driver to 260.19.36, which can be found here. Then I would suggest running nvidia-smi -a to see if the driver is happy. Then I second the suggestion to run deviceQuery to see if the CUDA Toolkit 3.2 is working.
If deviceQuery output appears nominal, then I would start adding printf's to see where things go awry in matrixMul.
What does deviceQuery say? Also check the output of dmesg right after you run that program to see if you can figure out whats up.
Another tip, if you still are having issues, is try running:
strace ./deviceQuery 2> out.txt
Then check out.txt to see if you can find any clues why this error is occuring.
I have similar problem but solved by updating kernel and drivers.
install newer kernel on 10.04
linux-image-generic-pae-lts-backport-natty
linux-headers-generic-pae-lts-backport-natty
download the latest nvidia driver
from http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
install the latest CUDA (at moment 4.0) from
http://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-toolkit-40
CUDA Toolkit for Ubuntu Linux 10.10 32-bit
CUDA Tools SDK 32-bit
GPU Computing SDK code samples
then I passed all SDK example tests.
