Default search in Google Chrome locked by smartsputnik.ru. I am receiving the following message:
This setting is enforced by your administrator
I have tried deleting all the entries in registry and also resetting and reinstalling Chrome but this did not help. I have also tried the proposed solution someone else here found that worked - No success for me. I still cannot rid my machine of smartsputnik.ru search engine.
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACCHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome
2.Delete file - C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\Machine\registry.pol
I have run various malware executers but nothing will help regain control of my Google search default.
Are there any other suggestions or useful ideas?
This Malware SUCKS!!! I got the same thing and it took me 9 hour to track it down and kill it!!!
I tried everything that you tried. But the thing that worked was.....
I went into the registry and clicked CTRL + F or the edit tab and Find. I then typed in google and went through EVERY google registry file, one by one by using the F3 key to Find Next. About my 20th one in I found a peculiar path to chrome for the value data. I think the path to it was HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/ChromeHTML/shell/open/command and I deleted everything after chrome.exe in the value data, but since I tried many things I could be wrong, I'm about 90% sure that that was the correct path. It had something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --%" ,for its value data.
I don't remember exactly the ending symbols but EVERY other path that I found had C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe,0 . Notice that it is a ,0 and not " --%". I then right clicked the name and deleted the " --%" garbage.
I also went to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Classes/LowRegistry/audio/PolicyConfig/PropertyStore/c44b5619_0 and deleted everything in the value data. It had a bunch of lines of unknown garbage and a weird chrome.exe file path.
After doing these things AND running several malware programs, which didn't do much, I now had the ability to delete smartsputnik.ru as a permanent search engine. AND MAN WAS IT SATISFYING!!!!!!!!
If you have any questions I will be happy to help because this was the most frustrating malware I have ever had to deal with, and I have been at this a long time.

I recently started making music using GarageBand's MIDI software. I've made it up to a certain point, where losing all my progress would be disastrous.
Here's the issue I have:
When I go to File > Save/Save As or just cmd+S or cmd+shift+S, or Share > Export Song to Disk, instead of functioning and saving the file (I checked in Finder; last time I exited the app without saving due to this issue, the untitled garageband file disappeared) properly onto the app, it would either do nothing or give me the rainbow wheel of death for 10-20 seconds and then proceed to not function.
I've searched online for answers to this, and there were several (2) users I found that had the same problem. Their post either had no answer or the answer was unintuitive (such as always using a different, more complicated method to save, like messing around with the garageband files themselves everytime to save).
I'm looking for an answer to this issue that would result in slightly more convenient, one-time edits to the app / any software beneath that would fix this issue, if there are any. However, if the community has any alternate way to save the file right now, I would greatly appreciate it.
======
Also:
Since I'd assume most of the solutions would involve closing the app and then making edits, then reinstalling it, please tell me if I could just copy the notes (not the tracks) onto a text document and paste it into the new file after. I would prefer to save my music.
Try this . . .
First QUIT Garageband (yes you will lose unsaved work).
Find the Garageband folder where all the .BAND files are saved. Usually it is in Users -> Username -> Music -> Garageband.
Move older .band files into another folder (EG: "Garageband OLD")
Then start a new project (or open a project still in the Garageband folder).
Save and Save-As should now work.
It seems there is some sort of file limit for the Garageband folder. In my case the file limit is either 170 .band files or about 125GB.
I am currently using Garageband 10.3.5 on High Sierra.
So I did some private navigation on Firefox's Private mode (which shouldn't log anything) and eventually there's a string of something I've searched.
I want it gone, I used Rwipe and clean to get rid of it but no luck, Uninstalled Firefox and all its folders and ran rwipe plus CCleaner this time, no luck.
After that, I also cleared temp and %temp% folder but no luck either.
Funny thing is that I checked Firefox process (before uninstall) and there were no strings of what I searched up in there, those strings of Firefox were on explorer...
I also have prefetch and superfetch disabled.
I need help, I need those strings gone really quick..
Appreciate your time and help!
"string on explorer.exe" - not very useful. String where?
Try restarting explorer.exe. Don't do it while Process Hacker is running as administrator though, do it while it's running as standard rights or via Task Manager. If that doesn't work, try rebooting the system.
Either way, an elaboration would be helpful to provide a real solution if either of the above don't resolve the issue.
I just restarted my laptop today because it was saying there was problem with one of the disks and it needed to restart to fix it, so I restarted it. But when it was booting it came across to a problem and was not able to boot and showed me some options. So under "refresh" it was saying it won't delete any files but it may delete apps, which was fine for me so I chose this and waited about 15-20mins to do the job.
Once it was done windows started normally and I got my old desktop with old names of my files. Everything was fine except I was not able to find the folder I have been working on for the last two months (which I did not backup stupidly, though I intended a few times but was lazy and I had no worry about losing the data). The folder was just at the middle of my desktop with the name "equation derivation". I can not freaking find it. All of my other folders are here but not THE ONE that is supposed to be. I am just freaking out here.... I had many matlab codes and PDF files inside this folder.
I tried to restore but there is no restore point because of freaking "refresh".
I tried to use a recovery program to show me some files, but it found almost nothing.
There is a "windows.old" file which has user accounts but in that one there are fiveusers: Administrator, guest, ibaha_000, Public, UpdatusUser. Last three folder's creation date is today and first two folders creation date is when I bought the laptop (2014-HP-Envy) . When I go inside ibaha_000 folder (or any others) there are some folders inside it and I try to go inside "Desktop" because the folder I am trying to find was on desktop, but there is nothing there at all. So "windows.old" did not restore any of my files....
When I search for any of the matlab file names or folder names or PDF file names on the search of PC, I get no result.
Please someone help me with this I really need someone's help to recover my files that I spent two months... (And I know I should have backed it up but there was no sign of anything like this I would have, stupid me...)
Thank you very much!
I was able to recover my files from the hard-disk with professional "active at" recovery program that ran about 8 hours to pull out data.
Refresh might delete your files because it might recognize some of your programs or text files as windows program files, as it happened in my case. It didn't delete all of my matlab files, it deleted the folder I have lots of .m files.
So before refreshing windows, BACKUP your data, that's the solution.
I'm not sure if this question is appropriate here but I have nowhere else to ask. I recently started to typeset some 'mathsy' stuff using Latex and it became a hobby for me. I've been using TeXnicCenter for this, but feeling that I've got familiar with Latex language, I decieded to improve 'efficiency' of typesetting by changing the editor.
So I decided to use Vim (latest version, 7.4) with Suite-Latex. I've just installed Vim and Suite-Latex, following exactly what was instructed here. I made every necessary changes mentioned here, and it seemed to me that installation was successful (I got what was expected on Step 4)
Then I started to work through this tutorial and everything went fine until this section.
When I press F9 for autoreference, I see that Vim is working on something for split seconds and red error message refering to "can't find [some file name]" in my user/appdata/local/temp directory. The "file name" changes every time I do this (so its kind of temporary file as its directory suggests?). And then it produces a new window with title __ OUTLINE __ where 2 empty lines are showing up.
If I press n (in the new window described above) error message saying "E486: Pattern not found: rf" pops up and pressing j results in going down one row. If I press enter key, message ":call Tex_FinishOutlineCompletion()" pops up.
More frustratingly, if I try to compile a file by entering command \ll, a new window pops up where there are two lines saying:
1.ll I can't find file `newfile.tex'. newfile.tex
2.ll Emergency stop
and below these is a message saying
[Quickfix list]: latex -interaction=nonstopmode -file-line-error-style newfile.tex
So I thought it maybe is something to do with VIM not being able to find files in my computer (so something wrong with grep?), and I tried to resolve it by downloading a software called "cygwin" on which developers said their tests were successful, but it changed nothing.
But I think the two problems are related.
As it is, I am completely newbie in this type of editing environment (or any kind of programming) but I really would like to learn some Vim seeing how efficient it is in typesetting etc. Sorry for not being a pro at typing codes here. Thanks for reading!
I believe you need a latex compiler---I've had this issue and well, one thing that's left out of the conversation a lot is the compiler (pdflatex, latexmk, etc). As of now, you should download a compiler since vim-latex (latex-suite) doesn't actually come with a compiler (that I know of) and it's just a plug in with some cool stuff in it, but not what you need to make a file.pdf out of your file.tex.
It happened to me before. I found out that this problem may happen when you have special characters (such as white space and other symbols) in your file name or folder path. Try again with file name and path only in English letters.
I am rather new to P4V, so I apologize if this is obvious, but I cannot figure out a solution to my problem.
I have a depot that I have connected to just fine, and navigate to the folder that I wish to get the latest revision of. Great, no problem so far.
I right-click the folder, and select "Get Lastest Revision". Except, it doesn't. It only grabs some of the files from the folder.
Fine. So I right-click the folder, select "Get Revision", have the radio selected for "Get Latest Revision", and check the box for "Force Operation". Nothing, same behavior, missing the same files.
Tried starting P4V in admin mode. Same behavior.
A coworker suggests I go into the workspace and manually exclude and then include the missing folders/files. Same behavior. Also suggests I try reverting to the initial commit of the missing folders/files, and then updating to the newest. Same behavior, I'm only able to get the same files every time.
Okay, so time for a more extreme solution. I restart, and use p4 sync ...#none in a command prompt to remove everything. Somehow several dozen files throw the warning that they're in use even though I've just rebooted. I don't know how this is possible, so I navigate to the folder via the File Explorer and delete them all manually. I right-click the folder, and select "Get Latest Revision"... and nothing.
This is... frustrating. This should be pretty simple - I just want the entire contents of a single folder, no frills. What's even more confusing is that I had these files before, and when I did a "Get Latest Revision" they were deleted. Coworkers are able to download all of the files in that folder with no problems - it's just a problem for me. Which implies that there's an option/setting I have that's messing with things. However, considering I just installed P4V for the first time, I know I haven't messed around with any of the settings, and don't know which ones to change to make this work.
Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any advice.
p4 sync and force sync fails only for the files that have been opened in the workspace. In case you want to sync such files, shelve and revert them to maintain a copy or just revert them and then try to force sync again! I have faced this problem several times and this always solved my problem!
