I've been trying to find to help in a little project I've been working on.
I want to connect my ARM board, to an x86 device with PCIe, and use socket API.
I have an ARM based board, which I'm connecting to a PC using PCIe, and I want the make the PC recognize it as an Ethernet device.
There's a lot of reference code and docs for the PC side, but I can't find anything to make the ARM "act" as an Ethernet, as the host side needs some parameters from the HW, such as MAC addresses, MTU etc...
So, what I'm asking:
Am I right in my assumptions, that once I'm able to provide the host with some Eth parameters, then the Linux on the host will populate an Ethernet device?
If 1 is yes, than what are the params?
Most importantly, I'm looking for doc or sources, so any lead would be greatly appreciated.

What I want to do:
An AI program on a host machine, reading inputs from a camera sensing the screen of the target machine and outputting controls to the target machine via USB connection--programming the host machine's USB host as a USB peripheral connected to the target machine.
What I want to do step by step: (is it possible to implement the steps below?)
Have a host machine A and a target machine B.
Connect A and B with a USB 3.0 Type-A male-male cable.
The USB connection shows up as an HID keyboard device on B.
Write code to simulate key presses on A that sends to B.
(Eg. calling press('F') on a program running on A would type F to B's input)
It shouldn't require any program installed on B.

USB Gadgets
You are using linux, so the default way would be to create/configure/load a gadget driver. Have a look at this tutorial, though for a raspberry, should work on your PC too. However, I could not find any information regarding the use of USB3 - the tutorial assumes your host is using one of it's OTG ports, which your PC most likely does not have. So whether this works with your USB3.1 Type-A-to-Type-A connection you'll need to test.
USBIP
The idea of sharing USB devices (not just keyboards) is not really new. With USBIP you can "export" any local USB device to the network, and your client will need the client-side USBIP driver to access the keyboard.
Dont bother with USB at all, just use Ethernet
I'd simply write two userland scripts/programs that send/receive+execute the keystrokes. Very easy to implement, you're probably familiar with python anyway.
If you absolutely cant have software installed on the client-PC and your Type-C-to-Type-C connection doesnt support USB Gadgets, there's another way. It basically involves the use of two USB-to-serial adapters (~15$) and a serial cable. While this wont be enumerated as a keyboard, but rather as serial port, it's the lowest-effort solution to transfer data without additional software on the client. Both computers will just do file I/O. If your computers still have COM-ports, you can even omit the serial converters!
I need some guidance. In a nutshell, I need to be able to configure and control a device with the smart phone app over BLE.
For example, change IP address of my Raspberry Pi. To make that happen, I need 2 things.
Simple Android/iOS app that takes IP address parameters as an input, and then communicates over Bluetooth to the RPi. Note that the device needs to be discovered and connected from within the app (without going to "Settings" and pairing).
Build some server process on the Raspberry Pi that listens to USB Bluetooth dongle, receives the command with parameters and acts accordingly.
So I need help building the BLE portion of this project.
I have several years of smartphone app development experience, and 10+ years of Linux system programming. In other words, building a simple Cordova app, as well as Linux process that changes IP address is really not an issue.
However, I am totally new to Bluetooth. Can you point me to the right direction? I am sure this problem has already been solved few thousand times. Is there a tutorial? Or maybe a skeleton code I use as a starting point? Also, any recommendation for BLE USB dongle?

I have an Intel Edison that I would like to use as a USB device capable of responding to queries made by a host. Currently, it is serving as a USB device providing functionality such as a serial com port, and a filesystem (as well as providing power). I need a way to add an additional endpoint to this USB interface so that I can bind my own custom application to it and make it accessible by the host. Alternatively, I could create another virtual com port to communicate with the host over serial.
However, I have scoured the internet, and poured over libusb, and still have no idea as to how I would do this. For reference, the Edison runs a flavor of Linux called "Yocto."

I am on debian and:
I have a USB controller hooked up to a USB port on my PC (Device 1).
I have a male to male USB cord hooked up to another port on the PC that connects to Device 2. (it is a "bridging" usb cord, and has the chip for it)
I want to make them connect to each other as if they were one cord, so neither device knows that there is a computer in the middle.
This would be called a 'Coupler', except that I am using a PC as a coupler.

I have been able to connect the two devices independently of each other and sniff the results for when they fail to connect. The devices don't send a large volume of data back and forth.
Maybe there is some kind of command tool that I could use, for example (psudocode):

Windows: You cannot directly capture raw USB traffic on Windows with Wireshark/WinPcap, but it is possible to capture and debug USB traffic on a virtual Windows machine under Oracle Virtual Box.
You cannot use a simple PC as transparent USB sniffer without extra (expensive) hardware. An USB bus has always one host (and one or more devices), and the PC can only be the host. This is a hardware limitation.
But you can capture USB data in a Windows machine using Wireshark and USBPcap, eliminating the need for the middle box in most cases.
As this post is tagged Linux, I suppose the controller PC is a Linux machine. Instead of connecting USB ports with a male-male connector, which is all kinds of bad (you are connecting the 5V lines of both machine with each other!), just run Wireshark in the controller PC.
There might be a little work to be done previously, as you have to enable Wireshark for USB monitoring (Particularly in Debian, this is disabled by default), and you might have to install a small driver to enable the monitoring. Have a look at this page for more information.
Once you get it working, Wireshark is an excellent tool for this!
I want to implement a driver in Linux, that has a Ethernet stack but the data going out on hardware will be a serial port. Basically, I want to register my serial port as a Ethernet driver. Does anyone have any idea if this is possible?
I want to be able to push IPv6 and/or UDP packets out of the serial port and in a similar way receive the packets via a serial port and pass it up the Ethernet stack.
I do not want to use the solution of serial-to-ethernet convertors(external hardware that convert a serial port to a ethernet port) but have that in my PC itself.
I tried PPP over the serial port and it works well. I am also told that I can do FTP, HTTP etc using the PPP. Reference to this - http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/Serial-Laplink-HOWTO.html
I have tried to hack the code from a RealTek Ethernet driver with a serial driver but not able to gain much success. Rather I do not know the stack of either to actually do anything meaningful. Any advice, guidance or tutorials would be helpful.

You need to get back to de basics on networking, the way I understand you question is: "I have a serial port and I want to use is an Ethernet link". Sorry to crush your dreams but you don't have the real hardware to do so, I'll elaborate on it.
A serial connection is a physical connection that requires 3 wires (at least) tx, rx and ground. On the logical side you have an IC that coverts binary data into signals that are represented by discrete voltage ranges.
Ethernet is a layer 2 protocol, the layer 1 is provided by the technology used to transmit the signals (coax, up, fiber etc.) As you might see by now, you need a different set of hardware to convert the logical Ethernet frames into a stream of digital numbers, in fact this is call framing.
Since Ethernet has been an easy to use protocol it has been implemented as e preferred protocol for many network operators, of course one of the biggest is PPPoE where you have a PPP session over an Ethernet link. Of course this won't work with your example neither since you're trying the opposite.
If you're just learning and have all the time in the world you can attempt to write your own Ethernet framer over serial lines. This means you need to implement IEEE802.3 into the driver and then you need to serialize the data to push it as a stream of bits over the serial line. Of course note the following drawbacks:
Your driver won't be able to fully support Ethernet, you need some support at hardware level to implement some signaling (example, auto negotiation, CSMA/CD, etc)
You driver will be pretty much useless unless you back in time where 115.2kbps is top speed in data transfers
IMHO there are more exciting projects that you can pick up in the networking field for device drivers. You can for example attempt to buy a NIC and develop the device driver for it from scratch and you can optimize certain areas. Finally, remember that most of the Ethernet implementations are now done in hardware so you don't have to do anything but filling a few registers on the MAC and voila!
SLIP and PPP do already what you want.
