Excel - how to display "0", "+" or "-"? - excel

I have tried googling for some time now, but I have not yet found the answer.
If I have an number (positive, negative, or equal to zero) in, let's say bracket A1, and I wish bracket A2 to show "+" if A1 is positive, "-" if A1 is negative or "0" if A1 is zero, does anyone know how to code this in excel?
Thank you.

In cell A2 enter this formula:
=A1
Apply the following number formatting to cell A2: +;-;0
That's it.

Basically what you're asking is a duplicate of the question asked here:
https://superuser.com/questions/612434/how-can-i-escape-special-characters-in-cell-formatting-in-excel
So to repeat the answer, simply put a backslash ( \ ) in front of whatever character would otherwise have a special function.

Excel - using cells in equations

Is there any way to use cells of excel in my mathematical equations? I'd like a way to just change the numbers and the equations automaticlly update with them. I tried concatenating strings but it's not that pretty. Or maybe is there any other way to easily show equations step by step in excel?
You say that concatenation of strings is not that pretty, so I assume you have done something like:
in cell A1 : "Hello"
in cell A2 : "World"
in cell A3 : =A1&A2
And in cell A3, you see "HelloWorld", without any space (which is indeed not pretty).
You can solve this in two ways in A3:
=A1&" "&A2
=TEXTJOIN(A1:A2, " ")
(I'm not entirely sure about the syntax of the second one.)
In the first formula, you concatenate both cells A1 and A2 and you specifically mention to put a space between those two.
In the second you do the same, but you mention that the space must be used everywhere.
The difference can be seen in following example:
In cell A1: "Hello"
In cell A2: "Lovely"
In cell A3: "World"
In cell A4, you can put: =A1&" "&A2&" "&A" for getting "Hello Lovely World": you need to mention the space character twice.
In cell A4, you can put: =TEXTJOIN(A1:A3, " ") for getting the same result. As you see you only need to mention the space character once.

how to remove some numerical text from a cell (not total entry of the cell) if it has a special carecter? excel

I have this excel sheet which has some questions. they are in cell no. a1, a2, a3 ....... and so on.
Each question has a number assigned to it like the following.
what is your hair color?
where is tower hamlet?
how to cock 5 potato?
Is number 10 greater then number 2?
etc.
You see each question number has a (.) assigned next to it.
I want to remove any numerical value which has (.) next to it.
so that I have only the text question and not the numbers.
For your example Replace *. should work.
This will take the right most values less the "#. space"
=RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-SEARCH(".",A1)-1)

finding last character on if condition excel

Can you tell me if I want to find the last character in Excel based on condition
let say last character if it is A then replace it with X, or if it is b then replace it with Z.
I want to do it with formula
If your value is in A1 cell, then try applying the following formula in B1 cell.
Formula
=IF(RIGHT(A1,1)="a", LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-1) &"x", IF(RIGHT(A1,1)="b",LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-1) & "z",A1))
If you are looking for last character to be exactly A, then try the following formula.
Formula
=IF(EXACT(RIGHT(A1,1),"A"), LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-1) &"X", IF(EXACT(RIGHT(A1,1),"B"),LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-1) & "Z",A1))
You can use this formula. See the example sheet to understand the values.
In Example:
"A2": Original Text
"B2": Result
=IF(RIGHT(A2,1)="A",REPLACE(A2,LEN(A2),1,"X"),IF(RIGHT(A2,1)="B",REPLACE(A2,LEN(A2),1,"Z"),A2))

Nested IFs in function not working

Hi, I'm trying to input a function in C2 in order to assign a numerical value to the minutes given in Column B. The criteria for this can be seen in the image above (starting at G1).
I have tried using a formula I copied from a similar situation but is not working:
=IF(B2<=$A$2,5,IF(B2<=$A$3,4,IF(B2<=$A$4,3,IF(B2<=$A$5,2,1))))
Any help would be appreciated, thanks
The suggestion by #Jeeped above will simplify the formulas needed. If you have to keep the 'A' and 'B' cells as they are listed above, you have to extract the number from the 'x min' format and convert the 'x' to a number so it can be compared (I assume a " " exists after the number. Could search for " min" as well).
=VALUE(LEFT(A2,SEARCH(" ",A2)-1))
Using the above, if A2 = '60 min', the formula will produce a '60'.
Now that the cell contents can be treated as numbers, the comparisons can be made. Formula for C2:
=IF(VALUE(LEFT(B2,SEARCH(" ",B2)-1))<=VALUE(LEFT($A$2,SEARCH(" ",$A$2)-1)),5,
IF(VALUE(LEFT(B2,SEARCH(" ",B2)-1))<=VALUE(LEFT($A$3,SEARCH(" ",$A$3)-1)),4,
IF(VALUE(LEFT(B2,SEARCH(" ",B2)-1))<=VALUE(LEFT($A$4,SEARCH(" ",$A$4)-1)),3,
IF(VALUE(LEFT(B2,SEARCH(" ",B2)-1))<=VALUE(LEFT($A$5,SEARCH(" ",$A$5)-1)),2,1))))
This is ugly, but works given the original question.
Try this formula (in this case for C2):
=SUM((B2<=$A$2:$A$5)*1)+1
It is important to use it as array formula. So after typing or inserting this formula to your cell don't just commit with Return but hit Ctrl+Shift+Return. If you did it right, your formula will be surrounded by curly brackets in formula bar:
{=SUM((B2<=$A$2:$A$5)*1)+1}

How to convert INR number format into European number format in Excel with Formulas?

Following is the which I am trying :
Let this number 6,123,456.33 in Cell A1,
Then in Cell B1 use this formula =TEXT(A1,"#,###,###.##"), will give you 6,123,456.33.
Then in Cell C1 use this formula = SUBSTITUTE(B1,",",".") ,will give you 6.123.456.33
Then in Cell D1 use this formula =","&RIGHT(H12,2), will give you ,33.
Then again come to Cell C1 Do text to columns or other options to remove the last digits with decimals and then concatenate result with Cell D1 shows the last three digits.
This tip will ends up in 6.123.456,33
But Problem is in point no. 5.
How should I remove .33 from cell C1?
TRUNC is not working on C1.
Any Suggestions ?
Seems like you don't mind having the result as text (and I can't seem to find a way to custom format it...) and as such, you can use the formula:
=SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(TEXT(A1,"#,###.00"),",","#"),".",","),"#",".")
There's a triple substitution, one to remove , for # (a dummy character), second to change . to ,, then last from the dummy # to ..
If A1 is always a 7 digit number with 2 decimals then you could use TEXT function like this:
=TEXT(A1*100,"0\.000\.000\,00")
